  1. people realize that for them to leave the ncaa, they would have to make an entirely new ncaa, right?

First, the NCAA wouldn't let them leave. They would clapse to their every demand if/when they make a push to split.

Second, you act like they couldn't pull it off. (For the record I think they eventally get in their own division, not create their own association) For the amount of money they would be making by doing it, I'm guessing their is someone else out there as bright as Mark Emmert who could lead the organization and its not like they would have to rewrite a bunch of bylaws.

  2. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend? Even with your explanation you are describing a situation that causes a leveling of the playing field.

Here is a less complex example. If the FBS decided they would cut scholarships across the board, some guys that would have gone to LSU or Alabama would end up at Minnesota let's say. Would Minnesota have a worse, better, or same chance of beating LSU with players that were in previous years good enough to be on LSU's roster, but due to scholarship cuts ended up at Minnesota.

Take the last nine scholarship players off the best teams and they are better than the last nine scholarship teams off of the weaker teams. So you literally take the worst nine scholarship players off of Minnesota's roster and replace them with the worst nine on LSU's roster. Who gets better and who gets worse?

Scholarship reductions hurt the best teams the most and at that point in history NDSU was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Your assuming that LSU and Alabama keep getting the most talented players every year. In your example that may be the case and that would justify your reasoning. In regards to NDSU and the scholorship reductions, they didn't.

  3. And d line, they got two cornerstone types in Edwards and Carrothers last year but they need more to replace the seniors. It doesn't seem like the younger D linemen seem like anything to get excited about other than the two true freshman I mentioned.

I don't disagree but i think Welch (sp?) could be a guy that could be a big DE for us if needed. I also am still big on Cummings. I think he is going to finish as a good one. Edwards from everything I have heard needs some expierence on the DL but has all the tools to be a stud next season. But I agree, we need to get some depth there and better play.

  4. Great post as usual Ira. In regards to the defense I really think the coaches recognized the need at LB and that is why they recuited 5 in last years class. I won't be surprised to see them get aggressive at that position again this year along with secondary. Saturday is going to be a lot of fun.

  5. I agree. My point was it is not like we are getting beat like we did by EWU every game. We are right in these games with top 20 teams in the country. We aren't there yet, but the team isn't as bad as people want to say they are. I suppose after 3 straight loses people get a little frustrated. All I am saying is to put things in perspective.

Never as good as it seems or as bad as it seems. I'd love for this team to win every game as well but our schedule has been brutal to say the least. There will be some decisions to be made in the offseason. The coaches now have seen first hand what the best of the Big Sky week in and week out has to offer....we have some holes to fill. The players need to make a commitment to this team. There has to be a commitment to staying in Grand Forks during the offseason and getting the most out of those workouts. The formula is there, past teams who have been successful have had 80% or better during the summer months. And we are not playing DII anymore. This should be an expectation.

  6. When our 1st BS schedule came out, this was the game I, and probably most UND fans, had circled on the schedule. UNd and UM have not played up to expectations, but this is still the Griz making their 1st trip to the Al. Think it will be a good crowd on Saturday. If UND loses though, the SUU crowd will be small.

I agree with this. There will be a good crowd this weekend for what is hopefully an entertaining ball game.

  7. kotelnicki should be worrying about the current status instead of chest bumping.... he may not have ajob after this year.

Recruiting doesn't stop in season. Also as a recruiting coordinator, it is part of his job.

  8. Maybe Muss will throw in some formations that include both QB's out there at the same time. Why not throw a little trickery into the gameplan. Hanson throws it back to Hendrickson who hits Hardin for an 80 yard TD. It could work. ;)

There was a college team who did that a couple weeks ago. There has obviously been a couple but I believe it was South Carolina who ran an entire series with two qbs in the backfield. Not that I want to do have an offense based on trickery but Marcus is definately athletic enough that he could be motioned around everywhere and really keep the defense on its heels.

  9. I am worried if Benjamin is not healthy this week. As poor as our defense has played you can notice the difference of him being in the game and a backup NG being in. If we are short a starting NG and LB and a backup LB up the middle this week, it could be a long game. The thing that worried me against Poly was knowing they were going to be in 3rd and short all game long and how our defense was going to respond. We couldn't get off the field in those situations. I see NAU being in a lot of those same situations this week. How is our defense going to play on 3rd and short? That to me is the key to this game. I need to see something out of our defense this week.

  10. I see Mussman's comments as coach talk. I think he know's which qb is starting but with each having such different strengths he is forcing Northern Arizona to prepare for two completely different styles.

  11. I will bet you right now this thread (or reference To the incident) will carry on with UND fans a lot longer than 2.5 years. Still trying to figure out why there hasn't been one mention of the individual not part of the team. By the way my go to has always been the lawn mower toss not Kristo As for the first part of your retort, you can't cover everything in an interview which is why there is a company handbook which they are responsible for understanding. They just don't take the time to read it.

I understand that. That is why I keep asking the question of why people in positions of power at NDSU seem quick to point the finger at the company who did the hiring when it is plain for everyone to see, except some people that the finger should be pointed at the employees and the employees only. Thanks for answering my question and just going off of history I'm guessing that something else will come up on Fargo's football team to make this go away. The past 5 years is a pretty good indicator of that.

  12. You are forgetting one thing. The family of the recruit. Playing teams in the Midwest allows families to drive to the games. Flying to every away game is very expensive. I would call this a disadvantage.

With the internet and being able to watch every road game on TV this is becoming less and less important. I think you are over estimating the number of families amongst the team that go to every single road game. There are some that do so and those that do have the option to fly with the team on the charter for a couple hundred dollars.

  13. I have heard the same thing about Edwards and am hoping its accurate. We need better play and depth at that spot. Its the key to the 3-4 defense against the run. Also, we need some linebackers who can get some pressure off the edge and at this level they are going to have to be more athletic than in the past. I think the coaches have worked on addressing that and we have some young guys who hopefully can step into that role. And it comes down to just making plays when put in the right spot. I continually watched guys get cut down on the edge against Poly as they ran it down the field. Sometimes it just comes down to getting off a block.

  14. Not sure what I've deflected regarding this incident so please enlighten me. I interview and hire a lot of people and go out of my way to ensure that the person knows what they are getting themselves into and what the expectations for them will be if they get the position. (Whether this happened here I have no idea). This after they have been through a pre screen and formal structured interview. You'd be surprised how many still don't get it or just go through the motions and play the system taking the easy road/money. IMO these guys took the easy way out to make as much money as they could for the least amount of work without any regard or understanding of the consequences or impact it could have had. Unfortunately it happens all the time. Right? No. Reality? Yes. For the record I believe they should have been suspended even though the court didn't hand out much punishment. That being said the decision has been made and people need to move on.

I hope you take the time to explain to them simple things like stealing pens from the office is wrong, surfing the web during work hours is frowned upon and you can't sign your co workers signitures on documents or it will result in termination. And if you don't explain these things, its an easy excuse to be used by others and easily accepted by some.

Regarding your deflection, coming on this board and trying to change the subject, cause the thread to get closed or whatever it was you were trying to do is a form of deflection. This is in the community forum, I know your mods at bisonville will lock a thread like this to get it off the mainpages but it is something that had an effect on the entire state. Deal with it. And talk about moving on, Kristo's frostbite happened 2 years ago now, still the go to example everytime a bison football player gets arrested.

  15. I don't disagree CM.

I just get frustrated watching this defense. I don't know if the problem is up front or in the secondary or a combination of both. Up front one thing we don't have anymore is a true two gap noseguard. I kept watching Cal Poly run up the gut on us and that jumped out at me. If its a scheme change where it won't be required, we need lb's behind him who can and will make the tackle. I watched guys get to the right spots vs. Cal Poly and continually miss tackles. Secondary- I don't know what to say. I don't know if we are a couple athletes short there or if we are now having to put so focus on stopping the run that these guys are hung to dry. A lot of coverages we get beat on are one on one coverages and a guy is dragging all the way across the field. A number of times, coverage isn't bad, but we just aren't finishing the play. I look at our roster and most of our DB's are freshmen, sophmores or junior transfers. We are young there but think we either need a safety to step up this offseason or bring one in.

Done venting. As Oxbow said earlier, the Poly game still bothers me more than last night. The thing that bothered me about last night is this team continues to give up the big play and not give ourselves a chance. The kickoff return last night and the TD before half bothered me. The fullback trap vs. Poly was inexcusable.
