EWU is up 20-10 on #25 Oregon St. midway through the 2nd quarter. So far their offense has had no problems moving the ball through the air vs. the Beavers. Even with the departure of two quality WRs.

Looking forward to next week. Time for this program to step up. Our run defense is the obvious key to the game but what does everyone else got. QB play? Running game? Tailgating?
-
The thing that impresses me the most about their team is how they don't beat themselves. They don't turn it over and they do not commit penalties. They also play with a lot of confidence. They will be tough to beat this year and are very much the front runners in FCS.

Pretty sure it's coach talk.

Best of luck to the ladies this evening and this weekend.

I'm going to side with the students on this one. They started out pretty into the game but lets face it, it turned into a game of Madden after a while. I do agree with the post above though, next week the crowd has to be Alerus Center of old type of loud.

Pretty excited to see the into next week. Missed it getting the family rounded up in the parking lot. Heard a lot of good things about it.

This article from the FU student paper may turn some students heads. How dare they question Bohl? Gene Taylor- Haven't these guys already suffered enough? http://www.ndsuspectrum.com/sports/bohl-lacks-confidence-1.3053055#.UiCbP9KG2Sp

Fun game tonight. 1) Good to see the student turnout. They were loud and into the game. Mass exodus after the kick return in the 2nd half. We will need them next weekend vs. SDSU. 2) Both QBs looked good. As others have mentioned Bartels looks more comfortable in the pocket and makes solid, early reads. Molberg makes all the throws look real easy and is more athletic, just doesn't seem as comfortable in the pocket or as quick to make reads. Both bring a lot to the table. 3) WRs looked good on offense. I think Sparks needs more touches. 2nd year in a row he has been real good in the opener. O-line needs to sharpen up next week or we won't have a run game. Looking forward to Jackson getting back on the field next week. Our short passing game may be our run game next week and he's a huge part of that. He'll be in the lineup next week. 4) Defense needs to improve. They better play with a chip on their shoulders next week cause I don't know if anyone left impressed. 5) I can't wait until next Saturday. I heard some real good things about the ticket sales for the next couple weeks. Its going to be full and a lot of fun next week. A lot to prove next week vs. an old NCC foe.

I can't wait for the season to start.
-
I'm going with simple handoff off tackle on the first play. Our first pass will be a bubble screen. Within the first 5 plays though we go for the endzone on a deep pass to Golloday and he gets the first TD of the season.
-
Thats a nice writeup. I enjoyed the read.

Excited for tonight. Looking forward to seeing all the new faces on the field for the first time tonight.

#buttFootball....I knew that response was coming. I thought you wanted to argue about the womens sports you listed. Two of our women's homes basketball games get as many fans as the entire seasons of the women's sports you listed.
-
Well, if your happy with the direction of your women's volleyball and basketball programs.......who am I to argue? I'm not going to lie, UND doesn't put much money into the sports above. I mean you have the Summit's leagues best and how many fans do you figure came out last season to support those sports?

Its a win that counts towards the end of the year playoff total and that is the goal.

Yeah, having 3 teams ranked in the top 10 in the country come to the Alerus and another couple ranked in the top 25 either at home or on the road the rest of the year is about what every other program in FCS college football hopes to have their schedule look like.
-
And the fans are waiting in line to see those teams in action. At least you'll have your past success to fall back on when you WBB and VB teams are struggling through this year. Have you filled the rosters of those teams yet? When are open tryouts? Face the facts Dan, besides Women's T&F and a softball team who choked last season your women's athletic department is a hot mess.

I would agree that schools each hold their student athletes to different standards. Hell, even players from different teams from the same school get treated different. For example- a softball player may get suspended right away, 10-11 football players get their day in court or get 3-4 strikes.
-
So prior incidents should be taken into account for suspensions/dismissals?

I'm torn on playing time for Thursday. On one hand, Bartels earned the job and I would like to see him get some game time to develop rhythm with the offense. On the other hand I would like to see Molberg get equal reps and run a different type of offense to get something else on tape for SDSU to prepare for. A coach like Stig has seen everything but forcing their defense to prepare for two different types of QBs can only help us the following week.

UND- 62 Valpo- 10 I want to see the offense have no turnovers and play a clean football game. Have to control the ball this year. On defense I want to see us get pressure only sending 4 guys and create some turnovers. Coach Kotelnicki has said that has been the focus since spring and it needs to start on Thursday night. I don't remember any turnovers last season against SD Mines and that carried out throughout the season. Also, the tackling this week will hopefully be improved from what we saw last year. Special teams- A couple blocked kicks. Attendance 9800 (1,000 more than last years season opener) My attendance prediction for the game will be

Your women's programs are certainly something to brag about. Our last place teams in the big sky are still much better than yours, minus softball. Add to that a women's swimming team in a new conference and a national tournament hockey team and you can have you middle of the road summit league women's programs.
-
We return an All American and a freshman All American and neither of those two may be the most talented WR on the team. Like someone mentioned above its hard to compare across conferences but to me, our group has proven themselves on the field.
