He wasn't their first choice
-
I trust Vince when he says Brooks won't be applying.

Here is an article written on him from back in October. http://www.northstarfootballnews.com/news_article/show/296448?referrer_id=903187 Welcome Drew.

It is an interesting decision if Klieman is offered. I don't see it as a lock that he accepts. If his aspiration is to be a head coach at the FBS level, turning around Wyoming's defense in a couple seasons will earn him way more recognition than being successful at the FCS level in that same time frame. Also, Vigen has turned into a top notch O-cord. Its not like there are guys as good or better than him just sitting around.

Glad he put his FU education to work.

Bunning

Did they zone us last year? I'm guessing we see it this season.
-
I'm more worried about us picking the correct coach now that the day is here.

We need a win

After looking at the list and reading some articles Javon Dewitt is a pretty interesting name to me. I wouldn't mind him as a selection either as he is a defensive guy and the defense he was a part of this year finished ranked 11th in FBS.

If it is Pflu he had to add someone that knows ND and MN. Keep Freund on for Wisconsin. With FU replacing their staff we need coaches with relationships in those areas to get back on target recruiting. That was why I was sold on Bollinger. Instant cred in those areas. Too bad he is not applying. I also expect the UND ties are Bubba and not Tibesar.
-
I think he needs to get another coach in there to keep the direction of the program. From my understanding it was far from unanimous that the players wanted Bohl and company to stay around. It was a pretty heated discussion and ultimately the captains and Taylor had to make the call. Getting another coach in there will help with the underclassmen who could potentially see all the coaches who recruited them gone and keep direction in the program.

The two programs are replacing coaches under different circumstances. I don't have a problem with UND keeping it open for as long as they did to hopefully find the right coach and wait for seasons to end for other teams. FU is replacing a coach who moved on and the seasons for a lot of teams are over. Two completely different times and reasons for replacing coaches. Not saying UND could have done it faster, but timing is everything.

Happened with Urban Meyer a couple years back at Ohio St. There were not a lot of other programs happy with it and they needed to get a waiver from the NCAA to do it. You can technically only have so many coaches on staff. I'm not sure of the number.

This. I don't see Tibesar being interested compared to where he is in his career now.
-
The thing that intrigues me about Pflu is he had some success getting some FBS transfers to help fill some holes when he had them. I'm not saying you build a program that way, but with some of the talent we have at some positions, a possible transfer here or there could help accelerate this rebuild. Also, with deflections, there may be years we have to go that way as we continue to develop depth. Still waiting to see who else applies today. Pflu would be a proven coach at this level and within our conference and I'd be happy if he is the choice. If at the end of the day there is someone better, I'm ok with that.

FU fan think. Wyoming is only a small step back right.

Head coach doesn't call plays
-
I wouldn't be as harsh but I agree with Dan. Records may be similar but there is more to those records. That said I am excited for UND football going forward. Lots to look forward too.

With how many FU fans post on here it's hard to tell sometimes.

I'm surprised by that. Too much of a conflict of interest. Recruit: Great atmoshphere here. Coaches- We built it. Plan on doing the same thing at Wyoming next year. Recruit- Will you use me the same way you use Current Player A? Coach- Not sure what they will do next year. Won't be coaching here but we will be coaching at Wyoming and yes, that is exactly how we would use you. Current Player- Sucks your leaving coach. Coach- You have a redshirt year left and the defense sucked at Wyoming last year. Lots of playing time available. Not saying Bohl or the coaches would act in this way but there will up to a month where coaches whose future and interest are at another college while they are trying to finish things off here. It can be done but how do you seperate one from the other. Saying it and actually doing it are completely different. On a positive note for FU- having this current staff in place helps while Gene conducts his nat'l search.
-
I was actually agreeing with you. An FCS coach needs a stop like this to continue moving up the ladder. You are right, nearly impossible to move directly from FCS to a FBS school.
-
Brian Kelly didn't go straight to Notre Dame. Jerry Kill didn't go straight to Minnesota. Not a bad move by Bohl and his staff. If he takes everyone, couldnt be a worse time for FU. Can't really recruit during the playoff run.
-
If Klieman can turn Wyomings defense into what he had at FU, the d coordinator job at Wyoming will be a faster track to a FBS head gig. Plus I bet Bohl made sure it will pay better.
-
Personally I think Faison already has an idea who he is hiring. If this would have happened two weeks ago than maybe. Timing is good for UND. Allows them to grab the attention Oxbow mentioned. Sucks for FU for mtiple reasons- playoffs and the timing. Being without a head coach going into signing day if they don't promote from within.
