I thought I saw Zach Jones at REA last night, but I'm not certain.

I am surprised the comment was made - hopefully it doesn't create any issues. I also hope Schneider recovers quickly so Diggler can enjoy his weekend! btw, thanks, PCM - the recap is always appreciated.

USCHO / CSTV NOV 15TH POLL AND INCH RANKINGS
schmidtdoggydog replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
It is interesting to see that BC lost to Harvard 3-1 last night and got outshot 28-21. -
Russ Parent was a very good offensive defenseman. 139 points in 162 games - First Team All-American 1990.

The following is text from an article in today's St. Cloud Times: 16 November, 2004 WCHA notebook: North Dakota's slump has the fans grumbling Kevin Allenspach The fans are getting restless in Grand Forks. Not only was North Dakota swept Friday and Saturday, Wisconsin's Bernd Bruckler came within seven minutes of becoming the first goaltender to hand the Sioux back-to-back shutouts since the men's hockey program started in 1946. Since a 4-2 home win over Minnesota on Oct. 22, North Dakota has scored 12 goals in seven games. Not coincidentally, the Sioux are 1-5-1 during that stretch. That's not the way to defend the MacNaughton Cup, and some North Dakota fans and even players are beginning to wonder about the team's offensive ability. Sure, they don't have Zach Parise and Brandon Bochenski, who combined for 115 points last season. They left early for fat NHL contracts and are playing in the AHL. And Brady Murray, who scored 46 points as a freshman, has had his sophomore season derailed by a knee injury. But, perhaps most surprising, North Dakota seems resigned to trying to win with defense heading into this weekend's series against St. Cloud State at Engelstad Arena. "We're not going to be in any shootouts," Sioux captain Matt Greene told the Madison Capital-Times -- before the 3-0 and 5-2 losses to the Badgers. "We're going to be a two-, three-goal if we're playing well type of team. So defensively, we've got to step it up. "That's been an adjustment, but we've always been a pretty sound defensive team. But you can't make mistakes. Last year, with that lineup the way it was, if you make a mistake here or there it's not going to cost you a game. Here, it is. You've got to eliminate all mistakes out of your game defensively." Defense isn't supposed to be their problem. North Dakota returned eight defensemen and both goalies from last year's team. And freshman goalie Phillippe Lamoreaux has been outstanding. As for scoring goals, the Sioux also returned seven players who scored at least 10 times last season. In the league, only Minnesota-Duluth brought back as many. After 12 games, Colby Genoway leads the team in scoring but has just one goal. Drew Stafford has three. And defensemen Nick Fuher and Jones have none. Those players alone combined for 58 goals in 2003-04. On their current pace, they'll total 13 in 2004-05. "There are no excuses for the lack of offense," assistant captain Rory McMahon told the Grand Forks Herald. "The time for excuses is over. We need to get our offense going -- and fast."

Or even worse, a combination of the three? Thankfully, the first two can be addressed - conditioning can be improved and intensity can be increased, but if you are slow, you are slow. Although there is some speed on this team, overall I think team speed is down from years past. How do you combat being slow? Work harder on the first two issues, I guess.

From INCH: 52nd out of 58 D1 teams on the power play - not good . . .

Well said!

It is a very cool mask. Besides what you noted, it also has the Lincoln Stars logo on the back.

One more comment after seeing the boxscore - UND is historically a team that wears other teams down and takes advantage in the third. DH said before the season that this team is in great shape and he should know as he has been on board for a few years. Well, what is the deal with getting outshot 15-5 tonight in the third??? That is unacceptable and certainly uncharacteristic.

Shut out twice in six games - this isn't panic talking, BUT it also isn't the Sioux hockey that I am accustom to!

Duluth ROADTRIP (Dec 10th & 11th)
schmidtdoggydog replied to Fighting Sioux #1's topic in Men's Hockey
For the people that like to stay where the team stays, the Radisson is where the team has stayed in years past. -
He played for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL last season. That is same team that Scott Gomez of the Devils is playing for this season while waiting for the NHL lockout to end.

Handsome? Who cares?! As long as he puts the puck in the back of the net, he could be the ugliest mofo on the planet.

Top overachiever and Underachiever of all time
schmidtdoggydog replied to BringDeanBack's topic in Men's Hockey
He played a little over ten games one season in the mid-80's. I believe he scored a couple of points. I think he transferred after his first season, but I'm not sure what he did after that. -
It may a little early to tell if the new coahces are more tight-lipped, but in BB's defense, he had very little time to talk. Five coaches and one swimmer spoke before he did. Throw in comments from the lady that organizes the gathering and comments from RT in between each speaker - all of this within an hour - and BB had just a few minutes to address the group. It may have been a case of the coaches being warned to be extremely careful with their comments considering the early signing period is just around the corner. I thought Hakstol was fairly candid last month and hopefully that will be the trend.

Another coach commenting on UND and fighting - although I don't think Eaves said it in the same context as Lucia's comments, it is kind of funny nevertheless.

Standard disclaimer applies to this thread. Brad Berry was present today. Unfortunately, he really didn't say too much of substance. He basically gave a recap of the season thus far. He did mention that UND is 5-3-2 and that is not where they wanted to be, but did point out that seven of the ten games thus far have been against ranked teams and that trend continues with games against Wisconsin this weekend. He said the team is striving to find consistency and to put together 60 solid minutes of hockey and figure out a way to get the puck into the back of the net. A couple of questions were asked about recruits and the early signing period, but BB opted not to answer either question other than to say UND has nine seniors this season. Question about which goaltenders will make the trip this weekend and BB said that hasn't been determined yet. Question about the improved look of the power play. BB said that Cary Eades is now in charge and the big difference is UND was getting shots on net last weekend with the man advantage and that is the key. Question was asked whether the penalties that Greene is taking really are penalties or calls based on reputation. BB said it was a very good question and answered that it was a little of both, but reputation definitely is a factor. He said that MG has been very aggressive this season especially on the penalty kill and they are reminding him to tone it down a little. He mentioned that when UND is down 5 on 4 and with the new emphasis on penalties, because of MG's size everything he does on the ice is magnified and that can lead to trouble. He said a lot of MG's penalties would be penalties at any level, even the NHL, but that many are based on reputation, not unlike what Commodore had to endure. He did also say that MG is a quality individual and a great leader and brings a lot to the team and is the type of player you need on a team. BB did mention that Genoway leads the team in scoring and that two freshmen rank second and third (Spirko and Zajac). He said before Zajac got an assist last weekend that his teammates were calling him Cy Young because he was 6 and 0 (g's and a's). Question about World Juniors. BB said it will be odd playing against Stafford during the exhibition especially after playing with him the two days before (against Canisius) and that he hopes Stafford treats his teammates well the week before that game. Other than that, not much was said. Most of the comments today were very generic in nature - sorry.
