What I don't understand is why there isn't more high school hockey discussion on this board.

There is no way you have five friends

I believe he is referring to his first year. Although he was WCHA rookie of the year, the team didn't have a great season.
-
Compliments of DMT: You can also check out the following nd high school hockey website. Perhaps you should email Bob Gillen and ask him to add a message board to his site.

Don't be knocking short goaltenders - think Karl Goehring!

The following are quotes from July 28, 2004, Fargo Forum: Hakstol said, "I wouldn't be surprised to see him back . . . (but) I certainly wouldn't count on it, I think our plans are in place whether or not Brandon's back." Bo said if he cannot work things out in Ottawa, he'll be excited to return to UND for one more season. "It's not a bad place to go back to." To me, these are not the type of statements that would be made by either party if academic eligibility was an issue. I would think that as the head coach of the hockey team DH would have a pretty good feel for who may or may not be academically eligible especially late in the summer. If BB was, in fact, ineligible, I don't believe DH would reference the possibility of a return. As for BB, his statements may simply be posturing directed at the Sens, but that doesn't make sense either. If he was posturing why not threaten to go overseas for a season, which could make free agency a possibility, which would mean the Sens could lose his rights. It just doesn't add up. At this point, the only thing that makes sense is what dagies heard from a friend.

Yeah, I cannot imagine that UND would want that chump back! All-American candidate, Hobey Baker candidate, likely sixth member of the 200-point club, goal-scoring guru, offensive leader, team leader (if he plays like he did in St. Cloud and many other times last year). Why, oh why, would UND want him back? It certainly would be an inauspicious start to Hakstol's UND head coaching career if he told BB there wasn't room at the inn simply because he tried to sign a professional contract. . . . I don't believe for a second that DH would do such a thing.

A scholarship means you are getting at least a portion of your education paid for whether you are a 1st or 4th stringer. Ziggy's scholarship for the upcoming season is still in place at UND.

Do you mean topics involving Sioux sports?

Refreshments were available and believe it or not, the price has not gone up from last season - yet!

You can likely get Ray's auto on Friday. There was a steady of stream of people coming up to him during the first game. I didn't see him turn down anybody's request. Also of note, Peter Forsberg is listed as the team manager for the Swedish team, but I didn't happen to see him, but then I didn't have a good view of the Swedish bench during the first game. Blais was also in the arena, Hakstol was diligently taking notes during the games and Parise was hanging out at the games with a lady friend. As for little Borque, he looks to be a good skater with some nifty moves, but he is small - 5'8" - 165 lbs. Matt Nickerson on the other hand is huge and certainly provided a physical presence. I thought O'Sullivan and Stafford looked good up front, but I thought TJ Hensick of Michigan was the best forward for USA in the first game. Suter, Johnson and Hagemo (Gopher fans will be pleased with this young man) looked solid on defense for the blue squad. Goaltender Holt from UNO looked good in relief of Montoya. Robbie Earl looked okay, but after hearing his quote from this year's draft that all he does is score goals, I found it particularly ironic that he couldn't even hit the net given the opportunities that he had. I was excited to see Wheeler, but thought he looked slow, gangly and in over his head. He clearly has talent and I know he is young and will likely be very good, but his play today would indicate that he's a ways away from being a contributor at the college level, if that is the route he chooses - it looked to me like the USHL would probably be more beneficial for him, with the physical play, than a return to high school. I was actually surprised how easily he was knocked off his skates by the Swedes. Kessel is very young with an October '87 birthdate, but he did all right. He skates pretty well but didn't do anything of note and was very average. Neither game was particularly interesting. I thought the Swedes and Finns were both bigger and more physical than I expected. The USA squads had difficulty generating opportunities and when they did, they couldn't take advantage - it was obvious that they've spent little time skating together. Anyway, despite the unexciting games, it was nice watching hockey in August.

Hey, at least he has pro hockey!

Comparing Schweitzer and Fournier makes no sense. Schweitzer came in as an unheralded freshmen, took the goaltending spot away from a senior and backstopped UND to their sixth national championship before falling behind arguably the greatest goalie in UND's history, Karl Goehring, on the depth chart. Without Schweitzer, UND probably doesn't win the title that year, which would give them almost as few championships as the Gophers! Fournier came in as a heralded freshmen, prize recruit, junior player of the year, then developed a horrible attitude, alienated his teammates and coaches, turned his back on exercise and conditioning, embraced fast food and washed out of UND leaving a skid mark in his wake - then he went to AA and evidently washed out again. The difference is, when given the opportunity, Schweitzer took advantage and with his talent lead UND to the top of the college hockey world in '97 - wasted talent, I think not. Fournier was given a similar opportunity but his attitude and lack of commitment overshadowed any talent he may have had while at UND.

NlttB, If you are offended by poor spelling, do not visit the high school hockey threads on this site. The juvenile delinquents are on the loose and it isn't pretty!

I imagine at this rate your stay on this board will be very short, but while you still have privileges feel free to private message me anytime to discuss this further - I am sure no one cares to be further subjected publicly to your inanities.

He played in 130 games and had 16 goals, 29 assists for 45 points. He also had 47 penalties for 94 pm's. It would seem to me that he did play a fairly regular shift. He did have two penalties during the '80 championship game so obviously he was getting ice time during big games. His numbers are very similar to Peter Armbrust's who played 154 games and had 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points, with 47 penalties for 121 penalty minutes. Anybody who has watched Sioux hockey of late knows that Armbrust, although being a career fourth liner, played regularly and even captained the team. Besides they are two members of a very exclusive group that won two national championships while at UND. The stats do further strengthen the point that you don't know what you are talking about.

How many high school hockey threads are needed on this site? This is a Sioux hockey board and very little of what has been discussed in the high school hockey threads has anything to do with Sioux hockey! It is interesting reading about potential Sioux recruits, but the most of the rest of the posts in these threads have been nonsense - and sadly the threads are impossible to ignore with their recent prevalance.
-
For now, no news would appear to be good news for Sioux fans.
-
One can't possibly decide whether they like the topic until they have read the thread - that is simple logic. If someone then decides they don't like it, they certainly have the right to voice their opinion much like you have voiced yours. I guess someone could say to you, if you don't like other people's posts, don't read them, but that makes no sense - you have to read them first before deciding. However, you read driscol's post and didn't like it, yet you still posted a reply. Perhaps you should take your own advice and save your glare for someone who cares.

You are self-proclaiming yourself as "one of best" coaches in the state, but one of your coaching philosophies is: "It's not worth winning if your can't win big." (From an earlier post). Hmmmm, something's not adding up here . . . . . If you are one of the best, why do you coach bantams? Surely you would have been a shoo-in for UND's second assistant position if you applied.
-
Kessel article Obviously, he is a very sought-after recruit. It was reported several weeks ago that he had narrowed his list to four schools, but UND was not one of the four. Although I think it is a longshot that he winds up at UND (it's just a feeling, I don't have any info to support that hunch) it is interesting that he now lists six schools, and UND is one of them.

You're sure her brother is a very nice girl?
-
He shoots right-handed so I am assuming he spent most of his time on the right side. As an aside, the last UND coach that came directly from a very northern Minnesota high school team (Blais, Int'l Falls) certainly brought good fortune to the team. Let's hope that holds true in the case.

I don't know if Archie is a top candidate, but can you imagine the pointers he could give to Prpich. With Archie's guidance, MP would probably become the most hated player in the league to non-Sioux fans !
