44 seconds left. Time out USA.

I love gfhockey's positivity. Just a ray of sunshine around here.

DaveK - you're really grasping now. A guy tries to go after Lucic on 2 separate occasions and also hit Lucic 2 or 3 times at a bar and Lucic didn't hit him back, and you're apparently trying to say that this makes him and the Bruins look bad? D'ohkay!

"Cleared but not out" is a line you hear not only from Hammer, but from announcers all over, including the NHL. The puck can be cleared (i.e. from the front of the net) but not out of the zone. That one used to get me, but you hear it all the time so I'm used to it by now.

Am I missing something here? UND can't host at the Ralph because they don't allow campus sites, correct? It's not because of the nickname issue. Where is Notre Dame's arena located? Is it on campus?

If I have the timing of this correct, he had just signed a 5 year, $31.5 Million contract with a $1.5 Million signing bonus.

I respectfully disagree. At the risk of repeating myself, I do not condone what Thornton did and I believe that he deserves to have a pretty hefty suspension for it. However, if we look at these 2 guy's history Cooke has been suspended many times for a variety of acts. My quick count shows that he's been suspended at least 9 different times for well over 35 NHL games. He ended Marc Savard's career with a hit that the league ended up having to change, modify, add to the rule book because of. Before this incident, Shawn Thornton had been suspended by the league exactly 0 times for a total of 0 NHL games. This was out of character for him and he'll pay for it. I think I'm fairly safe in saying that this won't happen again with Thornton. I know I won't change DaveK's (or anyone else's) opinion and so be it...that's not what I'm trying to do. You don't have to like Thornton, but to say he's a dirtball is pretty misguided. He's an enforcer, but he can also play the game. Simply put - there is a long history with a guy like Cooke. This is a one time deal over an 11 year NHL career with Thornton.

HaHa - DaveK - you're amusing. So some Facebook posters don't like Boston? Wow, what a shock! I can't believe it. Shawn Thornton knows what he did was wrong. And he knows he's going to get suspended for it. No question about it, he's an enforcer, but I've never seen him doing anything like this. He doesn't have a history of going over the lines - he has never been suspended before. This was uncharacteristic of him and he'll be punished for it. That being said (and I am not in any way defending what Thornton did or saying that was OK) - Orpik thought it would be OK to hammer Louie Ericksson and I've watched that replay 100 times and I don't ever see a time that Ericksson had the puck. After the John Scott illegal hit on Ericksson which concussed him and had him out for a period of time, Orpik knows what's coming and doesn't answer the bell. Please don't take my comments as me thinking it was OK or defending what Thornton did, because that is not the case. If Orpik doesn't want to answer, I guess he doesn't have to and that doesn't give Thornton the license to do what he did. Let's also not forget James Neal's knee to Marchand's head which helped to escalate the situation - which he'll get a suspension for as well. I suppose your reply to that is that it happened between the whistles so they can do whatever they want and whatever happens, happens - hey, guys will get injured in the game of hockey, right? Hey, at least the Pens got em where it counts...on the scoreboar.....errr.......wait......the Bruins won the game as well.

This was done for a Russian website/newspaper. In reading it, I thought it sounded like there may have been a lot of translation issues. I'm not saying that's not what Commodore meant to say, but I could also see there being some issues with the translation as well. Just throwing that out there...

Man, this is great! And I can absolutely see Greene doing this! From an article on George Parros and fighting in hockey (link below - and it's a good article). Fighting the goon fight

AMEN, Brutha! Hypocrisy at it's finest - from both the NCAA and the twin cities college.

Yeah, I knew he was the GM. I should have added a to my last reply.

Yzerman plays for the Lightning now.

I hope this doesn't end up getting too ugly. Although, I'm not sure how that can be avoided. It's almost a certainty, isn't it? Everything You Need to Know About the NHL Concussion Lawsuit

Good article for some debate. However, any list of the top 50 players in the league that has Kyle Turris on it and leaves off Patrice Bergeron I give no credence to.

I think we can all agree that an OD slash did take place. The only problem was that it was the BU player that slashed OD, but OD got to serve the 2 minute minor.

Wow...gfhockey is taking it to another level. What a gem we've got for a fellow Sioux fan.

Correct - Greene did not play. I'm not 100% sure why, but I guess he's on IR for a bit. Frattin had a great game - 1G and 1A. Was very fun to watch.

On my way to Kings/Lightning game tonight. Excited to watch Greene and Frattin.

21 for the Vikings may be generous.

Didn't we just go over this very recently? Maybe I need to refresh your memory - I never said a word about Cooke's hit on McQuaid. Also, I'm not even sure I've ever said anything bad about the Penguins on here. Matt Cooke in general - yes. Ulf Samuelson - for sure. And I'll most definitely give you !@#$ when the Bruins sweep the Penguins in the Stanley Cup playoffs. But what have I ever "spun" about the Penguins in general? I don't put spin on anything, I calls em like I sees em.

I saw that yesterday - and it was gross. It looked like his right leg just snapped. Can't wait to hear how a specific someone here *cough cough* is going to try and convince us all that it was a dirty play. I mean, it had to be, right? It was the big bad Bruins that were involved.

The Philadelphia Flyers - still one of the biggest jokes in the NHL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AYtMQ4V-s4 And out of this, it sounds like Lecavalier sustained a facial injury that will keep him out for a bit, and Steve Downie suffered a broken orbital bone. Ray Emery should be suspended for 5+ games.
