Oh no! They do 4 minute overtime periods until someone scores!
-
Don't they rake the grass or something?
-
Great. One more thing to overshadow Bison sports.
-
Do they do OT in lacrosse? I hope not.
-
Looks like a bigger crowd at this lacrosse game than in any of the regionals yesterday.

I believe that UMD will have their hands full tonight. If the game was on NHL ice, UMD would have the upper hand. But UMD does not play particularly well on the big ice and it seems to suit Miami just fine. I picked UMD to win, but after yesterday I have my doubts unless the puck luck returns to Stalock. It has clearly abandoned him since the Final Five.

2-0 AF. Man, Michigan didn't learn anything between periods. AF with only 5 shots on goal. Lamoreoux with a beauty on a 2-1 break.
-
As if that was your only hangup!

Stoa was expected. Now its wait and see time to learn if anyone else jumps from the SS Gopher.

1-0 AF after 1st. Michigan has been dominating, but man are they hacks in this game. They have taken some stupid unnecessry penalties. Thus far they do not look very disciplined behavior-wise. They have taken charging, slashing, and other penalties in the offensive zone. If the Michigan player hadn't missed, they would have had a CFB in the Robbie Bina category. Red had better get that team under control, or if AF continues to lead Michigan could get pretty frustrated and make even more mistakes. Michigan clearly has more skill, but AF goalie is solid so far.

Do you somehow not become a Sioux fan since they are in a different regional? Of course not. Be proud, be loud, and wear your colors.

Hmmmmm - Some of those picks make me wonder if I missed out on what you were drinking at Hoggsbreath!

For the first time ever at a Final Five third place game I began to wonder about the wisdom of the third place game in some situations. Yes, it is possible for that game to help a bubble team. But yesterday it was a team with a lock into the NCAA against a team virtually locked out of the NCAA. Wisconsin literally had free license to take liberties, play cheap, get even for past perceived injustices, etc. After seeing Watkins get hurt on a stupid penalty Friday night I was concerned the Sioux could get someone else hurt or a game DQ. A couple of examples - Two WI players jumping Finley simultaneously, Geoffrion playing the goon and cheap shotting Sioux players. I was actually more concerned about that than the Sioux play most of the time. As for the Sioux, I did see some things I did not like. Kozek dogging it to the bench on a line change, leading to a WI 5 on 4 situation for a few seconds. About halfway to the bench he realized he needed to pick it up, but by then it was too late. There were other instances I observed where I thought 100% wasn't being given. That needs to be changed by next weekend. The best new license plate that I saw on the way home from the Final Five - North Dakota plate "5 4RUFN" Now that is a hockey fan.

Clearly this picture was taken just before security got involved.

Every Gopher fan I talked to Saturday night, but two, firmly believed that they were in the NCAA. Not a doubt in their minds, and most quoted the PWR. This morning had to be a shock of reality to them. 7,000 Gopher fans with regional tickets and no team to cheer for. The two that did not believe also said that the Gophers didn't deserve to be in.

JK - Nice to meet you at the Final Five. UNH is definitely an up and down team. The ankle injury to their goalie may help explain some of that. They beat some good teams, and they also lost to some not-so-good teams. According to their stats if you shut down the JVR line your odds of winning are pretty good. Let's hope the boys are ready to go.

MafiaMan - Thanks for making the arrangements again. It was another great time.

Actually, it is X3. First winner through the play-in game, first time Gwoz loses a Final Five championship game, and first time UMD wins the Broadmoor. UMD was a very deserving winner. As to the drunk idiotic Sioux fan sitting in Section 204, Row 3, about seat 5 on Friday night - you jumped off the Sioux bandwagon by the end of the 2nd period. Your obnoxious degrading screaming toward the Sioux team was embarrassing. Please don't ever go to a Sioux hockey game again. We, and the team, do not need you.

If you have to ask this question, you clearly need to go to class.

Just got back to the hotel from the game. Man, this was a game nobody wanted to win. Both teams looked pathetic. UMD could not skate the puck into the zone all night, it was simply dump and chase. MN clearly had better skaters and better passing, but just could not put anything together. UMD couldn't pass, couldn't skate. The one thing UMD did well was take the puck away from MN players. As for Stalock, he was not impressive. MN had 40+ shots on goal. Many came because Stalock would not stay in net, tried many long passes on his own and at least half got intercepted by Gophers. He crossed up his D many times. He would skate like he was going to drop the puck behind the net, then he would begin to skate with it, and then drop it. The D had no clue as to what he was going to do with it. Stalock played well on most of his saves, but he also got very lucky on a number of opportunities that MN just plain blew. I see many posts about how well Stalock played. I disagree. The numbers look good on paper, but he had to be driving Sandelin absolutely nuts. I now see how they could be swept by UAA. UMD went into a shell with 14 minutes left and it almost cost them the game. UMD penalty kill was pretty good, other than the 5-3. They managed to kill the 5-3 but I think it was more luck than skill. As for Kangas, he did not look well at all. The first UMD goal was all his fault. A soft shot that he just did control and Sharp was there for the easy rebound. If UMD plays this poorly tomorrow night the Sioux had better beat them. Because if we don't it means we will look absolutely terrible.

If the Sioux are in the West or Midwest regional, we will be going. If they head out east, I have digital TV.

Wow, right below us. I hope nothing drops in, or down, or on.
