  1. Crap like this post really pi$$es me off. If you would have read the WHOLE report, and not just obviously skimmed through it, you would have read that he was "busted" with a methamphetamine PRECURSOR. NOT actually meth. Being busted with 12+ grams of whatever, should have clued you in that it probably wasn't meth. Congratulations on being the one to start the thread though (at least in the "Men's Hockey" section, Ray77 scooped you by 160 minutes, but posted in the "community" section)!

The Ramsey County Jail site that was linked in the very first post actually says that he was found with a methamphetamine precursor. Not actually meth. Methamphetamine precursors would include the following; (1) ephedrine; (2) pseudoephedrine; (3) phenyl-2-propanone; (4) phenylacetone; (5) anhydrous ammonia; (6) organic solvents; (7) hydrochloric acid; (8) lithium metal; (9) sodium metal; (10) ether; (11) sulfuric acid; (12) red phosphorus; (13) iodine; (14) sodium hydroxide; (15) benzaldehyde; (16) benzyl methyl ketone; (17) benzyl cyanide; (18) nitroethane; (19) methylamine; (20) phenylacetic acid; (21) hydriodic acid; or (22) hydriotic acid. Who hasn't hauled around a block of sodium metal, or a bottle of sulfuric acid in their vehicle?

I'm not really sure why it was assumed that meth was the illegal substance found. If we're just going to go around guessing what he was caught with, I'll go with possession of prescription pain killers, but not his prescription. That makes much more sense than meth. Other than being a Gopher fanatic, does Dubay come off as a big enough dumb a** to do meth?
  4. The Time's article mentions the Clinton administration pressuring Fannie Mae to encourage all of these sub prime loans, but it was Carter's administration that originally encouraged home ownership for EVERYONE, especially if you were a sub prime borrower.
  5. You forgot to insert the winking smiley face at the end of your sentence. Maybe your sarcasm was implied? Politicians, greedy people on Wall St, greedy people on Main St., and people who were "tricked " into taking out mortgages that they could never afford is what got us into this crisis. If you can't bring politics into this conversation, why even talk about it?
  6. My apologies. The letter was dated over two years ago. I don't know if that makes the letter more or less accurate today, but I should have dated the letter (it was linked though). As far as new refineries; Currently South Dakota is in the works to build one, but all that's been done so far is a yes vote (this month) to a zoning ordinance to allow for the new construction of a refinery. Whether or not said refinery will be built, we'll see. Otherwise, no new refineries have been built for 30+ years. A windfalls profit tax is just a bad idea. IMO, as bad as an idea as Ed Schultz had recently; Let's use part of North Dakota's tax surplus to suspend the state gasoline tax for the summer. IMO, this was one of Ed's dumbest ideas. I would not be opposed to using the state surplus to help give gasoline tax relief, or even some sort of "gas stamps" (same idea as food stamps) to low income households. But not everyone needs this type of help. Sure, a lot of people are having to cut back on luxury items, vacations (less hockey road trips, SUCKS), etc., but to suspend the state tax (and to fund it with the state surplus) for everyone doesn't make any sense.
  7. I can't tell if you're using sarcasm here goon, but a windfall profits tax on the oil companies would be a TERRIBLE idea. This was already tried during the Carter administration (repealed by Reagan), and the only things that happened were 1) domestic oil production was reduced, and thus leading to 2) more oil being imported (which made the US more dependent on foreign oil). Here's a letter to Sen Arlen Specter (that I stole off of the internet) that sums up how I feel about our current fuel prices: Dear Senator Specter, With all due respect, a windfall profits tax on the oil companies is not going to help consumers whatsoever, and in all honesty, just sounds anti-business and even un-American to me. Nobody felt much sympathy for the oil companies when crude oil was cheap and they were making very little profit on gasoline, so now that they are doing well, it infuriates me that politicians would want to tax them for it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like paying high prices at the pump. But at the same time, I understand very well that there are other factors involved which I don’t hear you talking about. First off, look at all of the high federal and state taxes that we must pay on a gallon of gasoline! Why don’t you consider cutting back on some of those taxes temporarily, until the $75 a gallon price on crude oil dropped a bit? That price is not the oil companies fault. And what about the fact that the oil companies are not permitted to drill at ANWR, or for that matter, anywhere else in this country? Here we have Cuba and Venezuela drilling off the Florida coast, but we do not? This is insanity! Also, there’s the not insignificant matter of refineries. We haven’t built any new ones in almost 40 years. It’s not that a shortage of crude oil is causing these problems. But if there aren’t enough refineries to process the crude fast enough to meet supply, of course the supply is going to be interrupted because of the bottlenecking that results. And don’t forget all of the regulations that have been imposed upon the oil companies. I’ve lost track of how many different grades and blends need to be processed to conform to all the the mandates that have been put upon the industry by government. And now we have ethenol do deal with? When there isn’t even enough of that to go around? And as I’m sure you know, since ethenol cannot be transported through the pipelines, we have the added expense of transporting this product via trucking and railroads. So no, Senator, I am not in favor of more taxes on the oil companies. IMO, that is a very punative action to take. As the late President Reagan used to say, government is the problem, not the solution. He was right. I’m very sorry to say that you continue to disappoint me.
  8. Was it just my TV, or wtf? Wasn't able to watch the game until the 3rd period, but once I did get the game on, the ice appeared so bright, that I couldn't see any of the lines or face off circles on the ice. I've noticed this before on the FSSN and FSN, but usually it's corrected right away. This went on for the whole game last night. I was starting to think that it was my TV, but I caught the highlights on ESPN this morning, and everything looked normal.
  9. Gretzky may have not been the sharpest knife in the drawer for drafting Wheeler at the 5 spot, but I'm pretty sure he's a little smarter than to try to pull the shenanigans stated above;)
  10. QUOTE *all 18 teams had a team GPA above a 2.7 *63% of our student athletes had a GPA above a 3.0 *47 student athletes had a 4.0 in the spring semester *the overall student athlete GPA for spring semester was 3.170 *average women's team GPA was 3.330 It's been too long since I've used algebra, and I'm way too lazy to figure it out the other way, what ever way that might be...but, If 200 women are pulling a 3.330 collectively, what are the 200 men pulling to drag the overall GPA down to a 2.7? I guess assuming that there are actually 200 women, and 200 men (isn't that what Title IX did?), simple subtraction would mean that the overall men's GPA is 2.07. Not too impressive. Must be a pretty full study table.
  11. I bet this person was a ref from another league. He made a bet with a WCHA official and obviously lost...and had to wear the WCHA officiating staff sweatshirt. Or, maybe he is WCHA ref, and Bruce or Greg made him wear it for some type of penance (not that WCHA officials are ever held accountable...)
  12. I'm still curious as to how you define "significant." As far as bitching and whining go, I can't recall doing either when it comes to keeping the nickname. As far as that goes, I'm on the fence; After reading all of you posts, my thoughts are this; Get rid of the name, get rid of all the Indian nicknames. Let's forget all about the NAs. Then after reading posts from NAs such as Steve Fool Bear, I think that the right thing to do is to fight to keep the nickname, the nickname that IMO, honors your people.
  13. And look where that got him...a ride on the pine;) Do you think he's physically unable to perform, or is it a mental thing. I was never really ever impressed with him.
  14. Please define significant. Is it a majority? Is it 25%? Is it 2%? If the number is less than 50%, please explain why that "will be enough." If it is less than 50%, why do you feel that a minority gets to decide against the majority? When you're teaching one of your classes, and a situation arises were you let your class take a vote on something, and 3 kids out of 25 vote no, do you decide to overlook the 22 yes votes? Just because universities such as Dartmouth and Stanford decide to change their names, does not mean they have taken the high road. I think fighting to do what is right, and not what is easiest is taking the high road. What do you mean by "come get some!" Something I'd like to pass on to you. This is something that my parents taught me at an early age, that has made my life much easier and less stressful since I have come to accept this fact. LIFE IS NOT FAIR! Bitching and whining will not make life fair, and will just make you bitter.
  15. I don't think the average number of penalties per game will go up. Players will just have to start playing by the rules (assuming the refs are willing to blow their whistles). IMO, the CCHA is less tolerant of the obstructions/holding, and without even looking at stats , I'm willing to bet the number of penalties called are comparable to that of the WCHA. I don't mind the 1-0 games, I do mind seeing the best players (both sides of the puck) not being able to play their game.
  16. Admittedly, I am no hockey guru. However, I don't think the reasoning for the WCHA coaches wanting to have the games called similar to the NHL, is the same as the NHL's when they changed their rules a couple of years ago. The NHL was/is looking to attract a wider fan base, and I don't think that is the WCHA's main intention. Of course, filling arenas every weekend would be outstanding, but being able to showcase the talent of those on both sides of the puck would be the biggest benefit. Fans who want to see a bunch of holding, obstruction, and interference never called, I suggest they check out roller derby. I agree that hopefully that there is a WCHA hockey network, and that it will be carried by cable and the two dish providers.
  17. I'm certainly not against good goal tending. I am against all the obstruction, interference, hooking, holding, etc. not being called. If the WCHA continues to allow games be called like they have been in the past, what's to keep the blue chippers on the offensive side of the puck committing to teams in conferences that are called more similar to the NHL? That is what I'm against.
  18. I so hope that you're not educating your students the same way that you're trying to educate this board.
  19. Why doesn't "sticking it to the majority" not make sense? You know what bothers all of you about the nickname being changed is that you will have lost to the "Indians" on this matter. And most of you just can't come to terms with that. Think about it, after kickin our a$$es for so long, you'll finally lose one! This post also "affected" me; affected influenced in a harmful way; impaired, harmed, or attacked, as by climate or disease.
  20. After checking out the site, I totally wish I was Jewish. Check out the men's golf. Some of the highlights are some of the guys breaking 90. One Maccabee shot a season best 87. I SUCK at golf, and even after getting my drink on, I've been known on occasion to break 90. Maybe my siblings have been right all along, I'm adopted, and comparing my golf scores to the Maccabees, it's obvious that I'm also a Jew. FERSHTAY?
  21. Don't even joke about banning Taco Bell;)
  22. I guess when it comes to racism, I don't feel that a dialogue is ever pointless. To me that would be like saying it was pointless for Sherman Alexie to have written all of his short stories. Unfortunately, the remarks made to you on the UND campus aren't exclusive to universities that use Native American names. Changing the names wont stop racist remarks. I bet NA students that attended NDSU probably have had similar situations occur to them.
  23. I would still be interested in hearing about racially motivated incidents that happened to you at UND. If you're hesitant to do so because people may call you a liar, or that you've exaggerated what had happened, you shouldn't worry about those people. You were there, you know what happened, and I am interested in hearing what happened.
  24. Most asinine post on this thread. Sticking it to "whitey." Really? That's why you want the name changed? The only people that have been kicking the NAs a$$es most recently, would be the Native Americans. Drugs, alcohol, and not wanting to take responsibility for your life, have been doing a lot of a$$ kicking, not whitey.
