1. He is drunk, what do you expect!
2. JPL has looked weak ever since he received player of the month. I haven't been impressed with his play. He worries me all the time when he seems to blindly throw the puck up the boards from behind the net. His flopping is really starting to get on my nerves because he seems to be going down all the time. Maybe it seems worse because I am using the FSSN to watch all the games and it is blury via webcast. Hopefully something changes because our chances of winning the big one depend on goaltending. We can't win without a strong goalie and the reason Denver, CC, and Tech are doing well is goaltending. Has there been a game this season that we can say we won because JPL?

4. In case these haven't already been posted, commercials advertising Hawks home games being on TV in the Chicago area. Toews is a major part of most of them and they are pretty funny. Crazy how his life has changed in such a short period of time. http://blackhawks.nhl.tv/team/launch.htm?t...4&catid=431
5. This perfectly demonstrates how a slang name could be seen as oppressive, but not how a tribe name is oppressive. Fighting Whities would need to be compared to Redskins or other names like this but can not be compared to tribe names. A fair comparison the Native Americans would need to make would be how Fighting Sioux is more oppressive than comparable majority caucasian names such as Fighting Irish, Vikings, Rough Riders, Cowboys, etc... This is how the NCAA should look at this situation as well but that would make way too much sense. The name Fighting Sioux should not be considered oppressive as it is not a slang word. Fighting Honkies, Redskins, The N-Word, etc... could be seen as oppressive because they don't have anything to do with a namesake or something like that.
6. This is such BS! If the NCAA REALLY believes the time has come to retire Native American imagery in college sports why aren't they forcing all schools to retire their Native American imagery?!!! It really sucks to be basically be powerless against the NCAA. The NCAA should have to pay for the removal of all of this imagery as they are the institution that has forced us to make this change. If we would've gone after the NCAA correctly in the settlement this would've been one of the conditions the NCAA would've had to meet in order for us to agree to the settlement. The lawyers really screwed up on this part of the agreement as well. Future damages would've been good to go after as I imagine UND is going to take a hit on merchandise, etc... after logo merchandise is no longer able to be sold. This will happen just as it did in Illinois with the Illini. The University of Illinois banned all sales of Chief Illiniwek items after June of last year or something like that. I don't know the specifics but I know people were buying it all up just as they will do at UND when the name is retired. It is too bad we didn't all make a bigger issue of this. If we had gone to Indianapolis and conducted large protests or something like this it would've been on the news and who knows how it may have impacted this situation. The winners in the end were those that did protest over the past 30 years. It paid off I guess.
7. Before tagging conservatives with the KKK reference you may want to remember that the longest serving member of the Democratic party, Mr. Robert Byrd, was voted Exalted Cyclops of his KKK chapter back in the day. Exalted Cyclops is the leader of the chapter in case you don't look at the wiki entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Byrd
8. I wonder if the statement "will transition to a new nickname and logo" is a general statement meaning that we will get rid of the current nickname and logo. UND will not be subject to the policy if we have no nickname or logo. It will be pathetic if the NCAA is able to further dictate UND's future even after we get rid of the Sioux logo and name. Some have suggested the interlocking ND but that would be lame because Notre Dame has had that as long as I can remember. When anyone in the Chicago area sees my ND hat they ask if I am watching the Notre Dame game or ask if I went to Notre Dame. We need something more original. It would be nice to get some clarification from someone more involved in the settlement regarding the transition portion of the settlement. PCM, get on that! :-)
9. As an alum, I want UND to have a new name and logo. Univeristy of North Dakota only is lame. Hopefully a good name and logo can be decided on.
10. This will be the next battle once we drop the Sioux name. Those that are for a new name and logo and those that are against it..... Yippeee!
11. I have an idea. I am going to change my name to Fighting Sioux. UND has my permission to use my name! I happen to look exactly like our logo. People mistake me for it all the time when I am out in the public. They say, aren't you UND's Fighting Sioux logo and I say no, I am larsensa. UND has my permission to use my face as the logo. Problem solved everyone. Jeez, why did we waste all this time trying to convince the tribes? This was easy to solve!
12. This sums up the situation so well. Who the heck do the NCAA think they are anyway? It is sad to see how power wacks people out. The people on this committee obviously have a God complex and think schools have given them the power to dictate what is right and wrong by not standing up with UND and the other schools and putting the NCAA in their place. The 1250 member institutions have basically made the NCAA even more powerful by hiding in silence . In regards to my original question, I think people in GF wanted to honor and respect the historic Sioux when UND picked the name in the 30s. I am not sure people in GF and UND would make that same decision today if UND was only known as the University of North Dakota and was in the process of choosing a name? Not because of the NCAA policy but because of the attitude many have about the current leadership and other issues in the Sioux tribes? Maybe I am off base, but if I am not, I think we really should take this into consideration during this process as iramurphy and others have said.
13. The only situation I could see UND having a financial agreement with the Sioux would be if we would look at the situation like the George Foreman Grill. George Foreman didn't make the grill or have anything to do with it but his name made it successful. He gets paid because his name is on it. Since Sioux Tribes still exist and kinda own their name, maybe UND should give them some cash for the use of it. Treat the situation like Saeco treats George Foreman? The Sioux don't make UND successful but we do want have their name on our school's merchandise that sells and makes a good chunk of cashola. This is the only reason I could see offering a cut of cash via merchandise to the Sioux Tribes. It is their name, maybe they should be able to charge for it's use? Just a thought.
14. Yeah, the whole FSM group ticks me off. These people that claim to be so open minded and able to reason are as closed minded as they come. Open minded people would be willing to listen to opposing views which they don't. Wouldn't want them to have anything to do with UND.
15. Yeah, nothing better than being Atheists! We could have Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens as our mascot! Yippeee!! We could just sit around and reason and act all intellectual and superior to everyone else!
16. All of the Peacful Gardeners will be offended by this Hostile and Abusive use of their name. C'mon guys, haven't we learned our lesson on this one yet?
17. I actually really like this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOks8ndk6sM. I like how they combined the Star Wars kid and her crappy trumpet playing together!
18. This name would kick ass! We would have the coolest looking uniforms of any team in the league. The hockey team could look like the team in the Bob & Doug McKenzie movie Strange Brew Speaking of Star Wars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wffwg7pA0t8
19. I actually think quite a few Indians are computer programmers. Have you called tech support for anything lately?
20. UND Fighting Ole, Swen, and Lenas UND Smelly Lutefisks UND Lefse Grills UND Grinders (Red Pepper can sponsor the team)
21. We have many different types of game to choose from in ND: http://gf.nd.gov/hunting/ UND Wild Turkeys! This would describe the student population pretty well too! UND Woodcocks has a nice ring to it!
22. UND Northern Lights We could have a cool light show during the games to represent the Northern Lights - Lite em up Lights! We could actually have a cool logo with this name. Maybe something sorta like the Carolina Hurricanes but in green, black and white to represent the swirling lights? UND Harvest We plow our competition down! Logo could be a funny farmer character that is catchy like the Irish logo.
23. I think it is probably the majority don't you? That it is only a mascot and logo? Just watch Jay Walking on Jay Leno when he asks people about history, etc.. Most people don't care about the historical meaning of things, etc..
24. I must be drunk because I actually read that great post by IRA Murphy! I guess I am getting old or something?
