  1. "Lazy Mexican", "Beaner", "Wet back", "Dirty Spic", etc. Heard them all and more as a kid and as an adult. Who do I blame? The racist pig who utters the insults in anger or in jest. Do I blame the world because of the ignorance of a few? No. Did a racist or group of racist keep me from anything I wanted to do or anything I wanted to accomplish? No. Do I think that they should ban the 'Magnificent Seven' because of the way Mexicans are protrayed? No. Should we ban Taco John's or Taco Bell? No. There is no one better than I am. There is nothing or no one but to stop me from reaching/achieving my dreams but me.
  2. Does the NC$$ know about this?!?!

  4. Uniformity means the absence of alternatives. If something is offensive and abusive for one than according to uniformity (and the NC$$) it is for all.... unless it isn't? How does that make sense? If George doesn't like getting his butt pinched and Nancy does, it's ok? No!! Nancy may like getting her butt pinched but if George witnesses it, that is sexual harassment. Because the Seminoles in Oklahoma find the name hostile and abusive but the Seminoles in Florida don't that makes the name hostile and abusive but not hostile and abusive? The NC$$ allowing FSU, et al, the use of Native American names/logos/mascots shows there is no uniformity. It is either ok or it's not ok. The lose of our name and logo would be easier to swallow if there were no exemptions, including the NC$$'s sponsor, Pontiac!
  5. No problem. I'm not complaining about the way this thread is going. I just wanted to bring the reason for the thread to the forefront again because it is an 'Awesome Letter' written by a Native American who supports the Fighting Sioux name and logo!

  7. This thread was started because a Native American wrote a letter in support of the Sioux name and logo. I think it's time to revisit it.
  8. I wonder if public outcry about these incidents had anything to do with charges FINALLY being made. I guess we do carry a little clout!
  9. I have been wrong before and will very likely be wrong again. I have no problem admitting this fact of life. You are officially on ignore.
  10. Before your start replying to posts that are almost three years old you should read all the posts related to the issue. I have posted since then that the NA programs at UND are funded by federal grants. It's apparent to me that your trolling my posts in order to start a hostile and abusive dialog with me. I'm not biting. As I said before, you're not bringing anything new to this forum and I'm not interested in arguing with you.
  11. Just about everyone stays in their seats to watch the little guys at the F5. Great idea!
  12. Yes, I have. I agree for those that want SRO it would be a nice addition. I just don't know where the Ralph could add SRO where there are no seats or where there would be no obstruction of view for some fans.
  13. The work place harassment issues are fairly uniform as it is considered discrimination by the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal authority. There is a system in place to investigate allegations of work place harassment, i.e. EEO. The mere fact that the NC$$ has allowed some schools such as FSU to keep their names, logos and mascots is evidence that Native American names, logos and mascots do not violate anyone's Civil rights. If Native American names and logos are hostile and abusive for one then they are for all; not just those that don't have tribal approval. Not all Seminole tribes approve of FSU's name, logo and mascot but because the Florida Seminoles are ok with it so is the NC$$. The hyprocrisy of the NC$$ having a large corporate sponsor with a Native American name and logo is also very telling. As long as there is BIG money for the NC$$, it's ok. Our logo is beautiful, designed by a Native American with symbolism within the colors of the feathers. The name Sioux is not derogatory as Native Americans refer to themselves as Sioux. We don't have a cartoon mascot or any mascot for that matter. Those who believe that the Sioux name and logo are disrespectful don't see beyond the name and logo. The student athletes and students who wear the Sioux crest, do so proudly, respectfully and honorably.
  14. I've been visualing the arena in my mind's eye and for the life of me don't see where a standing room area can be placed.
  15. Isn't that part of the problem? Not enough local noise makers?
  16. Get someone from the communications department to do an internship at the REA. They can be in charge of balancing the ads with scores, music selection, etc. I've had students 'shadow' me and have given them 'programs' to develop or refine and they have done wonderful jobs.
  17. Why is speaking out against racism and bullying moronic? Why do you believe that someone speaking out against racism and bullying is drunk? Is it because you believe only drunks and morons have the capacity to speak out against racism and bullying? I think both of these examples are disgusting. Ridiculing someone because of their religion, the massacre of their ancestors, shooting at them with a gun (albeit a pellet gun, its still an act of violence) is unacceptable and should not be tolerated by ANYONE!! Breaking an expensive bench that is not your property is unlawful. When I read what that bench represented, I know now that it was immoral and profane as well; the same as destroying headstones in a cemetary. If you think that those acts should be tolerated because college students don't know any better, or because they're young and stupid, or because they have warped senses of humor, or because they were drunk, you need to spend some time speaking with victims of the holocaust or their family members and with the family of the boy whose memory that bench represented. Maybe, just maybe, you'll leave that meeting with the understanding of why many of us on this board or in society don't accept these incidents as merely the innocent acts of dumb and/or drunk college students.
  18. Starting to?? You're already there old man!!
