    Trifecta

Perhaps you should re-name this thread: "I hereby proclaim that UND did not get the trifecta in 1997 because they shared the McNaughton with my beloved Gophers"
  6. Whoever on uscho started this rumour should be shot!
  7. Just scored tickets for Saturday night...so count me in.
  8. I actually agree with Fedorov in the sense that the arena was not designed with a student section in mind. Other than that, the design is terrific.
  9. I'll shamelessly plug for somewhere in the north metro (where I live). It's also closer to Grand Forks. Columbia Arena in Fridley on University Avenue a couple miles north of 694 might be a good location. I'm fine with wherever. I think we'll be able to find post-game pops no matter where we play.
  10. Some are trying to get the rule changed. Here is an article from INCH on the subject.
  11. It was not as close as the Ralph. I was say overall it was okay...a little buffering at times and hard to see the puck because of the camera distance.
  12. He started out the year red-hot and has cooled a little since the WJC. I think it's typical for a true freshman to get a little burned out down the stretch, especially when you throw in an emotionally and physically draining tournament half-way around the world right in the middle of the season. (On the other hand, it seems Brady Murray started out a little slow, but has come on strong lately...perhaps being the best player on the team right now.) Stafford obviously has a lot of potential. He has good size, good hands, decent skating. He shows flashes of being dominant. I think he would have to opt-in to be draft eligible this year. Us Sioux fans are hoping he does't opt-in. From my biased opinion, Stafford could use about 2 more years in college. I wouldn't read too much into Blais switching him around on lines. Blais does that to everyone. He was on the 4th line last night, but could be on the 1st line tonight.
  13. The first game was not a league game so I don't think it would count in the head-to-head criteria. But I don't think it matters too much because UMD will need to sweep UND to tie the first tiebreaker criteria...and if UMD sweeps UND, they will most likely win the league outright. If UND gets any points in Duluth and ends up tied for the league lead, UND would win the tiebreaker based on head-to-head.
  14. I'm getting music...looking good for me.
  15. I think #4 has the best chance of working. I've been told there are old-timers that have had those seats forever and the AD will never move them. However, if the AD is truly serious about student-issues, this would be a good way to start. Also for us former students and non-students, contact the athletic department and remind them how much we appreciate the atmosphere that the students bring to the game.
  16. I think the common consensus is that UND has to go 5-1 down the stretch to get some momentum going into the playoffs. Can they? Definitely. Will they? I'm a little doubtful at this point. For some reason I'm optmistic UND can get a split in Duluth, but fear they will run into a "hot goalie" and be unable to score in at least 1 or 2 out of the 4 games against the cupcakes. Unfortunately, I think 4-1-1 or 4-2 is more likely, or even 3-2-1 is not out of the question.
  17. The REA is a great facility with one MAJOR flaw...it was not built with a student section in mind. When it was being designed, everyone knew that the students stood. They should have built a place on the end somewhere where standing would not block others' view. It's too late to do anything about that now, but the AD seriously needs to move the students to an end. The student senate needs to stop fighting for the red line seats. It simply has to get done. Rope off the top two rows so the suiteholders can see and let the students stand all they want. I don't know why this hasn't been done yet. FWIW, I sit with old suiteholders when I go to games, and I've never heard anyone complain about swearing. Most kind of chuckle. I could be wrong, but I think the complaining comes from a minority of fans. People today are too sensitive about their precious kids hearing bad words. I guess I'm unrefined, socially irresponsible, and hopelessly old school, but I don't believe swearing at hockey games will irreperably harm kids or anyone else. I'm all for new and cleaner cheers, but they need to be gradually integrated in a non-threatening way to preserve some sort of atmosphere.
  18. Well said jk. My thoughts exactly.
  19. It's too bad what's happening to the students. Did they seriously kick people out for doing the 'who's he' chant? Other than the game itself, the students are the best part about college hockey. I like the excitement they bring and I even like a little profanity once in a while. It reminds me that I too used to be young and happy once. Will the students be around for the Tech series or is it spring break?
  20. UMD is clearly in the drivers seat now and the McNaughton is their's to lose. They looked absolutely fantastic the little bit I saw of them this weekend. They remind me a little of the 96-97 Sioux team. On a positive note, when UND goes to Duluth in a couple weeks, at least they'll be the underdog for a change. If UND can play UMD tough and get some points, it could be the momentum they need going into the playoffs.
  21. I'm just going by the numbers. I stopped caring about "bounces" and "breaks" last season.
  22. Brandt really has had only one bad game this year I think (maybe I'm wrong). I think we should throw him in and live or die by him down the stretch. JPar is not bad and I certainly don't blame him for the loss tonight, but Brandt has proven he has the ability to get hot down the stretch. His best game may have been against UMD last year in the Final5.
  23. Some thoughts: 1. CC is MUCH MUCH better than their record and standing. I would not like to be the team to face them in the opening round. 2. I hate to say it, but the Woog's of this world are mostly right. Jones is all around solid, but except for Bina, the others are pretty slow and don't handle the puck real well. 3. Our goaltending is not as bad as some in the media make it out to be, but it certainly isn't a strength. 4. Maybe it's the schedule, maybe it's a lack of leadership, but UND is swooning. They are fading just like they did last year. That doesn't mean they can't turn it around, but they do not look like a championship team at this point. 5. Where did you go Bo? 6. Is it me or is tackling a standard defensive technique now in the WCHA?
  24. This isn't your father's CC team. Tough, gritty, defensive, opportunistic...it seems like they have 7 guys on the ice at all times. I don't care what the shots say, they handed it to the Sioux tonight.
