  1. At work and can't......shouldn't........watch game. Score update please. Nice to see the "Non-Sioux scores" thread......finally. That's all I got.
  2. Kind of ironic that it's me replying to this thing first....I meant to say getting them behind the players....not the fans....such an idiot.
  3. You know, you basically reiterated what I said, in a round about way. Your trying to say that, having the loud rock music get's the crowd jacked up and getting them behind the fans. I was saying that if you know hockey, and appreciate the game, you don't need the music do that. The ever so knowledgeable and diehard hockey fans we hear about up in GF can't get jacked up and behind it's team without music ? That's pretty lame if you ask me. So if the season ticket holders will get off their rusty dustys and shout a little bit, we won't need to hear anything loud or annoying over the loudspeakers. And when earlier referring to a 6 on 4 powerplay, that was still in reference to the goalie being pulled, geez tough crowd around here. So when ya'll type these things up, do you proofread them 10 times to make sure you didn't say anyting stupid that someone is going to for sure catch, then have to reply to just to show you up ? So I'm still diggin' the crappy lovefest songs. Bring it !!!
  4. Yeah, when a team pulls its' goalie and then it becomes a 6 on 5 or in some cases when on the powerplay it could be a 6 on 4.....making any sense yet ?
  5. I did'nt think I was going to have to try and defend Dave Matthews on here again. When you say it's hardly motivational music, who is it exactly the people playing the music at the REA are trying to motivate ? The players ? The fans ? Themselves ? The REA staff ? To be honest with you, if I'm paying good $$$ to go see a hockey game, and going to the REA to see it, whether it's the Sioux or USA or whomever, I don't need good motivational music in the background for me to enjoy myself. The players probably don't need it either, they should be jacked up enough, playing before 15,000 people, in a beautiful arena, playing the game they love, and playing for one of, if not the best, D1 hockey program in the country. If they're sitting on the bench thinking how much they can't stand hearing Dave Matthews over the loudspeakers, then I am mistaken. I agree there are points in a game when a little loud music get's the crowd jacked up at crucial times, power play late in the game, 6 on 5, anytime after a goal. But hearing a little Dave Matthews in between a face off, allows me to think happy thoughts, and be thankful to be an American, and to be able to enjoy my freedom, and watch hockey, great hockey, and doggonit, I like DMB alot, so there. Yeah, I know it all sounds corny, but if you smiled once while reading this, well mission accomplished.
  6. Just a couple things I wanted to add after reading the entire thread up to this point. I felt the atmosphere at the game Sat. night initially was real quiet and even the early on USA chants were real weak. But I'll tell you what, after Stafford buried that first one, the place really got up. Nice pass by the way to set that one up too, can't remember who it was. Also, thought Montoya let in a couple of soft ones. But that first one was probably the best, hardest, and quickest one timer I have ever seen in person, from the blue line too. I havent ever attended an NHL game, so I'm sure those are probably a common thing, but Al had no shot at stopping that one. But yeah, 3 goals on 6 shots, yikes. The russian netminder sure seemed to give up alot of rebounds too in the first, but seemed to settle down as did Monty throughout the game. Didn't see Lee out there once and was kind of bummed about that, but was glad to see Stafford get 2 points and the game MVP for team USA. Agree with earlier post about him looking far quicker than when in green and white, but maybe it's a sign of things to come for the rest of the season. Was also surprised to see so many empty seats, and when not empty, saw alot of red mapleleafs around. Saw a guy wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey waving a US flag, not sure what that was all about, had the flag right at least. But all in all, we looked good, referring to the boys in white, yes the boys in white, yes I WAS AT THE GAME.
  7. Just wanted to mention how much I am looking forward to seeing the USA-Russia game on saturday. I can't say that I have ever seen a nation vs nation game of any sort in person. I'm trying to think of US flag apparel that I might have, but can only come up with a pair of boxers, and an actual flag, in which I'm not referring to as apparel, but could maybe be used as a cape or something. If I only wore those items, I probably wouldnt get in the door, and I'm sure someone would beat me up for actually showing my large self in public wearing next to nothing. So with me being a newbie to the world of Sioux (hockey) fandom, how does one handle the fact that their are Gophers on the good team ?
  8. Oh....that explains why the boys in black had White Bear Lake on the front of their jerseys. I guess I should have referred to the Spuds as "The boys in home whites with orange and black trim" My bad, I always seem to mess up on the littlest of details. As Chris Farley would so appropiately put, "I'm such an idiot!!!"
  9. Yeah, I went to it. The boys in black sure missed Lee. They looked out of sync on the power play and WBL had plenty of chances on rebounds that Lee would have either cleared, or taken the WBL player out of the play. I heard WBL is 6th in the state, so it's nice to see Moorhead can still play up to that level without their top guys around. Not sure how Vandevelde did. But solidly I'm sure.
  10. Yeah the "We got trees" cheer was pretty good, I mean, how does one counter that ? "We have dry land" It's a toughy. And their "sieve" timing was really off. Good call by someone mentioning their fans cheering that when Jordans got a shutout into the 3rd and they're still calling him a sieve, even after Johnson, who got yanked, gave up 3 in the first. (I think it was Johnson, certainly wasn't Isaac Rhe....Ry.....sks.....muth?)
  11. Well, thanks for welcoming me into the fold of Sioux (hockey) fans. I went up to the Duluth series last weekend, and had a great time cheering on the green. Had my $2 Walmart broom taken away from me by an usher on Saturday night, but didn't end up needing it anyway. Another thing ya'll might kind of get a kick out of is the fact that last year, I walked into a Scheels, and into the UND section of apparel and purchased a UND Fighting Sioux sweatshirt. You would not believe how big of a deal that was for me, being a Bison fan to the core. I one time actually bought a Sioux cap, just so I could turn around and deface it at a Bison/Sioux game at old Memorial stadium. But anyway, nice to see the positive responses on my last post, and I'll be sure to not push my luck with any more Bison talk, since this is a UND Hockey sight !!!! Go Sioux !!!!
  12. So, I'm not even sure if I should have posted this as a topic or not, but I figured it would get some pretty good input from a variety of people. I grew up in Fargo, played soccer as a kid, never learned how to skate, so I never had much of an interest in hockey. Until that is, I got little bit older and started to really appreciate what a great game it is. So I started looking for teams to root for on all different levels. Ice Sharks in the USHL, Wild on the pro level, but who to go for in the college scene? Well, I grew up a Bison fan through and through, hated the Sioux in everything, and really didn't care about anything ya'll had up there in GF. But over the last few years, and even more recently with the SU move to D1, my hatred has...somewhat...diminished. I have plenty of friends up in GF that are huge Sioux hockey fans, and I had gone to several games at the old Ralph. So with all that I want to say this. Until NDSU gets hockey (in like 20 yrs), what would be wrong with me, being a ND boy, rooting for the Sioux, hating the Gophers, not being able to stand the likes of a loafing rodent named Vanek, watching Brian Lee at MHS, thinking he'll look great in green ? If anyone objects to this line of thinking, let me know, because I feel like I'm at a bit of a crossroads...
  13. New member here and figured this was as good a topic to make my first comments on as any. Congrats to Brian Lee. I love watching this kid play for MHS. Look forward to seeing him wear the green. Is he going to play a year of juniors first or not ? Also, going to see the Sioux sweep the Dogs this weekend, should be fun.
