  1. Whatever your team does this weekend, just don't forget about Sac St...............................
  2. I can't find anything either. I know that I paid to watch the webcast in 2008. Perhaps they don't offer that service anymore?
  3. Reading the Idaho Vandal board there seems to be alot who think that they will end up in the Big Sky. Not necessarily that they want to, but that the think that is where they are headed under the circumstances. Personally, I hope that Bosie St. is successful in getting San Diego St. into the Big East. That would almost certainly mean a MWC bid for Utah St. They would strengthen the MWC in basketball, and fill the market void left by Utah and BYU. I have to think the Utah St. is the only thing keeping Idaho in the WAC. Losing Utah St. would really hurt the WAC as a basketball league. In the Big Sky, Idaho would probably be a top 3 basketball team and a top 3 football team. And without Utah St., Boise St, and Idaho, the WAC loses alot of its luster as a basketball league. If Utah St. gets a MWC bid and Idaho does not, then Idaho to the Big Sky could become a real possibility. If it happens, having Idaho to the west and North Dakota to the east could entrench Montana and Montana St. in the Big Sky for the long term.
  4. I would like to see a legislator ask what would be the actual monetary cost of retaining the nickname.............. Retaining the nickname under current circumstances would mean we accept the NCAA sanctions. By all accounts, accepting the sanctions means UND will not join the Big Sky Conference. So, what are the monetary costs of being independent in all but two NCAA sports? Off the top of my head............ -$600,000 per year to buy home football games -$25,000 per year to have alternate uniforms for the Men's & Women's hockey teams so they can participate in post season events -$135,000 per year in lost revenue sharing from the Big Sky Conference -$20,000 per year in potential lost revenue from not being able to host NCAA playoff women's hockey games -$100,000 per year in potential lost revenue from not being able to host NCAA playoff football games -$200,000 per year in potential lost revenue from guarantee football games (because schools like Iowa and Wisconsin pay way more and are closer than Ball St. and Wyoming) -$,??? per year in lost contributions to Fighting Sioux Club because all but two sports will become non-competetive
  5. Hopefully there's a good contingent of Sioux fans this weekend. I won't be making it this time, but I did in 2009 and it was a blast. Aggie Stadium is a beautiful venue, and of the handful of roadtrips I've made over the years, the UC Davis fans were the friendliest bunch I've come across......... But I do hope that the Aggie team that beat Cal Poly doesn't show up...................
  6. Geez, no kidding amazing how long Hardin played.....................a broken leg? That sucks for him and the team. Luckily, it seemed like Ivery kind of had a coming out party on Saturday.......................
  7. I assume Mark Chipman is worth well over $100 Million. Couldn't find any numbers, but did come across a blog post on NHL.com that he sold the shares of his company for $130 M shortly before he and the wealthiest man in Canada purchased the Thrashers/Jets....................

    UC Davis

UC Davis is 3-6 on the year and 1-2 in the GWC. Their wins are against Cal Poly, TX-San Antonion, and non-scholarship San Diego. Their losses are to Arizona St., Montana St., Hawaii, South Dakota, Southern Utah, and DII Humboldt St. Davis isn't a good match-up for North Dakota. Looks like they are alot like SUU. They pass alot and run very little. A few key stats: -UC Davis is last in the GWC on scoring while UND is 1st in scoring defense -Davis is 4th in total offense while UND is 1st in total defense -The Aggies are last in the league in rushing, but they also have the fewest attempts. They only average 2.9 yards per run -Davis gives up 160 yards rushing while UND averages 166 per game -Davis throws for 238 yds per game, 2nd in the GWC. UND gives up 259 pass yards per game, 4th in the league. -UND is 2nd in the conference in sacks while Davis is 4th in sacks against. -Davis is last in the league in sacks, while UND 1st in sacks against. -Davis is the most penalized team in the GWC -Davis is -1 on turnovers for the year, while UND is +4 A few things look in their favor, a few things look in our favor. I think for North Dakota to be successful, they have to not turn the ball over, establish the run (as usual), and get to the QB. If Davis' QB has time to sit in the pocket, he'll burn Coach Kelling's secondary all day long. Their pass defense isn't stellar either, so hopefully Goska can get a few early down field completions to keep them from selling out to stop the run.
  9. 2011-12 GWC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll 1. Utah Valley (5) 34 2. North Dakota (1) 28 3. NJIT 27 4. Texas-Pan American 15 5. Chicago State 11 Houston Baptist 11
  10. Yeah, yeah................we get it. The 6-3 football team sucks while the 3-5 hockey team is awesome................... The demise of the nickname is all the fault of the football and basketball programs.................. The nickname is actually just on loan from the hockey department to the rest of the athletic programs................ Did I miss anything?
  11. I agree that the way the game unfolded yesterday was amazingly embarrassing. But I think it is way off base to claim that Mussman got out-coached yesterday. I didn't see any evidence of it. USF competely took away our run game for the first 3 quarters. Any team that does that, whether it be Montana St. or Morningside is going to have a chance to beat North Dakota. This is a very one dimensional team, and it has nothing to do with coaching, rather it is a result of personnel and talent. UND won virtually every statistical battle in the game, but because we couldn't run the ball effectively, many offensive drives stalled. Despite Goska's adequate play over the last 3 weeks, he just isn't capable of doing it with no run game to compliment him. UND would have never trailed in the game if not for Coach Kelling's inept pass defense schemes that, as usual, allowed a few big plays. If any coach on the staff warrants excessive criticism, it is him. The pass defense has regregressed every year since 2007.
  12. Honestly, I think that throughout the media these days, any school regardless of the sport, that is not a member of a BCS Football AQ conference is considered a "mid-major". "Mid-Major" seems to be a term thrown around to any basketball team that represents a school that would absolutely never have a chance of playing for a national championship in the sport of FBS football. Personally I think there is far more parody in the world of "big-time" college basketball than there is in "big-time" college football. Here's how I break it down as far as basketball goes in no particular order.............. High-Major Big East Big 12 Big 10 SEC PAC 12 ACC Mountain West Missouri Valley C-USA Mid-Major Horizon WAC WCC Atlantic-10 Ivy League Low-Major Metro Atlantic SoCon MAC NEC Atlantic Sun Big Sky Summit Big South Sun Belt Patriot Big West OVC Southland MEAC SWAC America East
  13. You may be right, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possiblities that the WAC would make an exception given their current status. They are in survival mode. The additions of non-football schools Seattle, Denver, and Texas-Arlington implies that the WAC is working more toward ensuring their viability as an NCAA conference in general rather than as an FBS football conference. And although Boise and Air Force wouldn't have their football teams in the WAC, having the rest of their sports programs could go a long way to retaining Idaho and Utah St. For precedence, the Big East currently has Villanova, Notre Dame, and Georgetown as all-sports members that do not place their football programs in the same conference.....................
  14. If Boise and Air Force do go Big East for football, I see them going (back to in Boise's case) the WAC for the rest of the sports. Idaho, Seattle, Denver, and Utah St. would all be in favor of that big time I'd think. The WAC is a decent basketball league. Air Force would make it better and both would probably appease the Northwest schools that have been standing by while Texas schools have been added..................... As far as Boise in the Big East for football, I think they'd do well. Big East football sucks, especially without Pitt, and WVU............... Have to think that AQ Big East football for Boise St. would be a dream come true. Could they compete in the Big 12 or Pac 12 week in and week out? No..............see Utah. But I bet they can in a revamped Big East...................
  15. Good. Mangy coyotes....................
  16. USD averages 6.5 more pass yards per game than North Dakota, and has thrown 1 more interception than North Dakota against relatively equal competition. As far as GWC games, I worry more about UC Davis (bad match-up) on the road, than I do against USD at home. But for right now, I'm most concerned about Sioux Falls, because that's who's coming to GF on Saturday............................
  17. Forensic Accounting...................... Forensic Poll Analysis.................. They've got it all in Fargo.
  18. So far this season, this team has met or exceeded my expectations. I've seen nothing so far this year that would lead me to believe that this game won't be a 30+ point beat down of USF.............
  19. Was he playing against UND's secondary?
  20. I'm sure all of the walk-ons and partial scholarship athletes would like to send out a heart-felt thank you to the NCAA for this legislation................... SRSLY, it's not enough that these players get a free education?
  21. Wow, an NDSU fan bringing up North Dakota hockey................................never saw that one coming.
  22. It's a fun idea, but the WAC has already tried the 16-team, 4 quadrant model.......................the end result was the Mountain West Conference.
  23. Just watched the media day video on fightingsioux.com.................... Roebuck spoke very highly of freshman Emily Evers and Brianna Williams. When talking about Evers, said she used to be a point guard but then grew a foot or so over a year and became a post player. Said she is mobile and passes the ball well. Said alot is expected of Alyssa Wall, and they will look to Madi Buck for more scoring as well. He said is biggest concern is who is going to step up and be a scorer this year..................
  24. Just watched the basketball media day video on Fightingsioux.com.............. Jones said that Antwi will play and will be asked to score. Said Gentry will have an impact defensively. Said Benton will redshirt. Also said there is good competition for the center position between Brekke, Wilmer, Stockdale, and Mathison.............................. I assume that is coach-speak and translates to "we have some talent at the position, it's Brekke's position to lose, Wilmer is coming along nicely, and Stockdale and Mathison provide much needed depth".
