Sioux shooting 46% from the field, and 90% on freethrows..............

I've always like the interlocking ND, I suppose because I'm more of a football fan than anything else. It has been a constant in the althletic department forever. The Indian head logo has been changed so many times over the years it has been hard for me to latch onto. I know you don't like it because of its subtle similarity to Notre Dame's use of the same letters of the alphabet, but when I see a New York Mets hat, I don't confuse it with a Yankees hat..............

I'm interested to see what kind of draw there is for the NDSU game. The last one in GF was over 7,500. But I figure that most of GF has given up on everything at UND that isn't played on ice...................6,000 seems like a reasonable guess. Too bad considering NDSU looks good, and this years North Dakota team is likely much more talented than the teams of the early 90's that drew between 4,000-5,000 every night...........................

For basketball attendance to rise, I think the basketball team needs to start winning alot of games. Grand Forks has become a tough market. The novelty of DI never materialized here like it did in Fargo, Brookings, and even Vermillion. I think the biggest reason for that is because prior to the move to DI, North Dakota was a threat to win the national title in nearly every revenue sport............football, hockey, women's basketball................ When the fans are used to that, and you have hockey beating the crap out of everybody during the same time frame that football and women's basketball are struggling......................it is tough for those programs................. You have one athletic department beating up on Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc... for the last 5 years while other athletic departments are losing to Sioux Falls and Mayville St. Grand Forks obviously wants a winner...................they show up in better numbers for games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Waldorf College than they do for South Dakota and Montana......................... As far as marketing, I think it is pretty hard to criticize what UND has done since Brian Faison and Sean Johnson came aboard. I've watched more Sioux football, basketball, volleyball, and women's hockey on TV over the last three years than I have in my entire life..................I've listened to volleyball games and women's hockey games on the radio.........................what other universities in this region are broadcasting volleyball games on the radio for crying out loud?................. Long story short.................attendance will go up if UND wins..................in every sport. The average sports fan in and near Grand Forks are not intelligent enough to recognize quality football and basketball competetion otherwise.

We opened the home season with USD in 2009 and it sold out. Coming off a 8-3 season and a conference championship, I believe the SD Mines game will approach 11,000. If we have a good season, the Montana game has the chance to sell out.................or if it is on the same day as a hockey game it might not draw 9,000.
-
I've said that fans DON'T seem to show up no matter who the opponent is. My guess is the SD Mines game will probably be the first or second best attended game on next season's schedule.
-
And an attitude like that is why there will continue to be non-DI games on the schedule going forward.......................... Attendance of 7,000-8,000 will not often afford North Dakota the luxury of being in a financial position to pay the dollars required to bring in a Pioneer or NEC or similar FCS team for early season non-conference games.....................

I thought Huff played well tonight, and he didn't frustrate me as much as he often does with poor decisions. Although perhaps being guilty of being a bit of a "ball hog", he also makes some great passes in traffic. My biggest complaint about Huff is his launching of 3 pointers when he is not a 3 point shooter. Go to the rim and either score, draw the foul, or dish it off. Brekke had a great game, 20 points and 10 rebounds. Free throw shooting continues to be abysmal. Do they ever work on that? I like Josh Schuler, some people here don't. He doesn't fit in with the M.O. of Anderson, Webb, and Huff. He's a pure shooter. I'd like to see some of those screens set to free him up for jump shots.....................

I'm bummed that that tool Rob Ash has went ahead of coach Mussman.................remember he threw a mini-hissy fit about North Dakota being invited to the Big Sky Conference. On the other hand, I'm surprised that Muss is among the finalists since many on this site had the pitch forks out before the USD game..................

Seems like the team is regressing. Poor play on the road against pretty pedestrian Idaho St. and UMKC. Seems like they fall apart in the second half of some of these games. Is that coaching, conditioning, complacency.............? Poor defense tonight.............
