No. He was Coach of the Year in the NCC.
-
I bet we don't, "bud". But keep up the good work.
-
Not sure about that. Like I said above. Lennon won the big one with mostly RT's recruits. Who here wants to question the coaching skills of either Roger Thomas or Dale Lennon?
-
Because his stock was high, and he wanted to be a head coach. Because he's 49 years old. He was born and raised here and the fact that he wants the job probably means he has a desire to live here. So do I. That is a good problem to have. But given the age difference, Bubba would have to win multiple championships to be enticed to move on. If DeBoer had one great year in the next 4 or 5, I think he'd be gone.
-
It's kind of like saying Roger Thomas had no hand North Dakota's National Championship. We were 2 years removed from the RT era. Most of the starters were recruited by RT. Dale won it. Dale has the ring. But he benefitted greatly from what Roger Thomas had built. Neilson should thank Bubba.
-
Seems like you are implying that Bob Neilson's superior coaching resulted in that 15-0 record and national championship in his first year back at Duluth with the previous coaches players. His first year at Western Illinois netted 4 wins. Maybe he had a bit more to work with at Duluth?
-
Maybe. That could be why DeBoer wants the job. But I don't think it is why Bubba wants it. Lennon hasn't succeeded at SIU like I thought he would. But I really doubt that he'll be fired another 6-5 season. Expectations aren't nearly as high at SIU as they are at North Dakota.
-
If it wasn't a "national search", neither Bubba nor DeBoer would be in the conversation. I'd like to know who ever brought up this "vast network" that Faison has. It surely wasn't him. It was likely some rube on this site, like me. Of all who APPLIED for the job, who has a better resume than either of these two guys? Pflugrad is probably the only one, and he was apparently excluded for known reasons. There were other intriguing candidates, i.e. Marshall and DeWitt, but they were no more qualified than these two are. The "good ole boys" club should be happy because Bubba is a finalist. The "new blood" club should be happy because DeBoer is a finalist.

4 years at Duluth. Coach of the Year in the NCC, not the NSIC. He had some pretty nasty defenses at both North Dakota and Duluth. Southern Illinois is 42-28 since Lennon (and Bubba) has been there, one of two coaching staffs that have had a winning record at that program since 1983. If Schweigert doesn't have a succesful track record, I don't know who does.

Dexter said 1,800 tix sold for this game. That's pretty good since the students will be gone. Sounds like more of the same. We are way more athletic, but they'll play zone, and that has stumped us so far. We are so much better than the Jacks, but I'm not confident heading in. Win this game and it will do a lot toward heading into Big Sky play...................
-
Also, the assistant staff seems to be a hot point of debate. With DeBoer, I worry that we might get a bunch of NAIA guys from the Sioux Falls area that may not be experienced enough.................
-
You are safe in this instance.
-
You need to change your avatar. I feel like I'm on Skype with Bubba himself............................
-
I'm not real "in tune" with recruiting. Can someone point out the best kids from North Dakota that we should be looking at?
-
By biggest reservations regarding DeBoer is that all of his success came at the NAIA level. And it is not like he turned around a bad program into a winner. USF was already very good when he took over. Granted, he took them to the next level, but still I believe USF was always a top NAIA program. Recruiting in NAIA is far different from recruting in the NCAA, as are the academic requirements. He had like 10 years experience at Sioux Falls, and now 3 years as an assistant in the FCS. Bubba's coaching experience is far wider reaching. NAIA assistant, DII coordinator, DII head coach, FCS coordinator. He's making the natural progession. I don't buy that Bubba would give us mediocre teams. He's had success everywhere he has been, and he understands the expectations here. Chris Mussman is the first coach to leave here since 1948 with a losing record. I know it is a cliche to say he "bleeds green", but that does carry a bit of weight IMO, particularly when the guy is has a great resume and is qualified. Honestly, I really don't think DeBoer would get anywhere near the support of the fan base that he is getting, had he never set foot in the Alerus Center in 2009.
-
I feel the need to point out though that Lennon invited Bubba to go with him to SIU. And I believe he took a couple of then Sioux assistants with him including Schmidt. He didn't ask Mussman to come along. Who was his first OC in Carbondale anyways? DeBoer came there a couple years after the fact........... Paging UND92,96. That seems like something you would know.
-
Yeah, but I'm not sure we have either one of those either!
-
If it is true that Faison "asked" DeBoer to apply, wouldn't that indicate that he is likely the guy? I would really prefer Bubba.
-
I would think that would be unlikely.
-
No.
-
That's OK. There will most likely be multiple playoff games in the Alerus in 2016.
-
So, 12 games next year. The more football the better. And thank you for no Thursday home game next season.
-
I agree that there likely will be a lot of support for Bubba from the alumni
-
Now that we know who the finalists are, what is everyone's preference between the two? I like Bubba.

38 days to hire Lennon. 30 days to hire Jones. This is day 30. Why do people think it should be so much quicker this particular time?
