  1. UND-1

    Junior Day

    SFI says between 35-40 total.
  2. I cannot get over the fact that the Women's Hockey budget is bigger than Men's Basketball. I wonder if there is another D1 Athletic Department in the country that does that?
  3. UND is rogue university? Have you paid attention to your administration the past 10-15 years? Just go away, this isn't the battle.
  4. While we are piling on, what is our fearless leader doing with the Mens Basketball staff? They are currently heading into the final year of their contract. Is he going to extend Jones, fire Jones, or let him go into his final year like only a completely inept AD would do? Signing Day already happened, meaning the kid of Creighton is locked in. The decision should have been made by now - publically.
  5. If you are looking for a definitive, rock solid answer about anything relating to Title IX, good luck. Nobody besides a few people on each campus even know all of the 100's of iterations that go into it. As far as I have been told, UND is about as compliant as they could possibly be. Much, much more than any other colleges around here.
  6. That is awesome that you guys did that, very cool! Attendance at those sports (soccer, baseball, softball) is pointless to even worry about. There isn't enough to even have a discussion. More about expenses, scholarships and what really makes sense for the athletic department.
  7. There were realistically seven sports that could have been cut and all seven came close to meeting your criteria and that of not being a core Big Sky sport. Another little tidbit I came across: a year or two ago either Irle took a scholarship away from baseball to give to women's soccer. So baseball went from 6 scholarships to 5. Soccer went to an astounding 14 (full).
  8. I did. He chose the easiest one, the one he didn't have to fight for. Got it now?
  9. Their budget was right around 500K. Faison needs to cut five times that next year, per my sources. What did he really accomplish? On the surface, fine. BB was always a tough deal cause of climate and facilities. We all know that. But, the way he did it by only cutting BB and Men's Golf was chickensh*t and basically kicking the can down the road. He was presented with options and chose the easiest one, of course. The problem is doing the easy thing doesn't always solve the issue.
  10. I sincerely hope everyone who is reading these posts now realizes what people in the athletic department and alumni office have been going through. Everything that is coming out has been happening for years to these coaches, donors, fans, players, and so forth. This was finally the chance for everyone to figure it out for themselves. One thing about former baseball players: they are resilient and very intelligent. Most I know have been successful post-college. They were given nothing ever by any AD and somehow year after year loved playing UND Baseball.
  11. I stand corrected. Faison actually took the money from baseball's already embarrassing shoe-string budget on a yearly basis to pay the 140K.
  12. Faison found $140,000 to put towards the turf at Kraft Field. Money well spent. At least the youth of Grand Forks will enjoy it now.
  13. Should he need to BEG an AD to take his money? Are you serious?
  14. Faison is the AD. On paper it was his decision, in reality his female counterparts made the decision for him. Go read their Bios if you want to know why certain sports were kept. Like I said before, baseball didn't have a voice in the room so they were cut. This was grabbing the low hanging fruit when they needed to do much, much more. He knows they need to cut more next year.
  15. One former baseball player knows who is really in charge.
  16. What facts are you alluding to? I would observe that UND is going out of their way to try and balance things that don't need to be balanced. If you don't understand that look around at other athletic departments. Faison is happy giving out participation opportunities to student-athletes while other AD's work to make their programs elite. That is the difference. Does it sound bad, maybe. But it's the truth and is a common sentiment among those in the UND athletic department and on campus.
  17. Was told a number higher than that. Saw the number you posted on internet as well but my source said higher. Once again, collegiate athletics is like a shell game with all sports.
  18. Golf had ZERO scholarships. That was low hanging fruit, just like baseball was. Easy moves that didn't solve the problem.
  19. Don't compare Women's Hockey and Men's Basketball as a collegiate sport ever again. Good lord.
  20. So UND spends over TWICE as much on Womens Hockey as they do on Men's Basketball? Un-f'n believable. If any competent AD from around the country saw that statistic they would laugh they arse off at what idiots we are. Men's Basketball is the gateway to supreme exposure, the most you can possibly get as an athletic department. And they aren't that far off from making it. There is a reason why USD and NDSU built brand new facilities for basketball. They had the ability to raise major dollars and put it towards the sport that can do the most for them.
  21. So it's worth the (roughly) 2 million dollars a year they spend on Women's Hockey for that one remote chance that they might end up on a tape-delay broadcast? Lets keep adding up the TENS of Millions until we reach that pinnacle.....
  22. Quick math. Gotta be near there. Volley?
  23. 1 series. $1 a ticket. REA keeps concessions. All for a 2+ million dollar per year sport. Only at UND.
  24. Wrong, it was brought up along with their monstrous budget number by the bean counters. But of course was saved.
