Agreed. I didn't even consider Rosehill a flight risk. He gooned it up a little too much for my tastes, and that's saying a lot, because I enjoy gooning. Smaby is much more NHL ready. Rosehill could have benefitted from a year or two more of collegiate play. And the 'Dogs could have used him, now that he's had a year to experience the WCHA and calmed down a bit from juniors (I hope?) He would have had a chance to be a leader, as the 'Dogs were only returning 4 D-men, now only 3. Granted, Niskanen is going to kick some major a$$ but Rosehill is going to be a big loss to the team. Big mistake on his part and TB's.

Wisconsin could never get around playing Illinois in basketball, just like they could never get around playing North Dakota in hockey. If you're not going to play with the best, then how are you going to prove you can compete? Wisconsin and St. Cloud can just play each other all year round. Who cares?

Hah, yes we were a horribly offensive club. And not just racially! Chicagoland has a much greater chance of bringing D1 hockey to Illinois than UIUC does. Nearly everyone I know who played hockey and was from Illinois came from the Chicago area (The Dogs' own Tim Stapleton is from LaGrange). The state of youth hockey down south is pretty sad.

Impressive, RW, that you would mention my Illini! However, I don't think it would work for a long, long time. There's no rink. Every UIUC hockey game sold out and was SRO, but that's because only a few hundred people could fit in the "arena." Also, Illinois is a growing state in hockey talent... above I-80. In central and southern Illinois, they're more interested in football and rodeos (ha.) The team itself has been EXTREMELY successful. I've never seen them lose, in the past few years, they have rarely lost a game and have been the national club champions and/or finished very well every year. I'd also be wicked pissed to find out Illinois got a D-1 team after I left! I had season tickets! (It was like $40 for the whole season! Yeah!) They do already have a hockey booster club, and a club called the Harrassing Illini, which is hilarious. However, if they got an auto-bid, they'd be banned from postseason play due to the racist mascot...

I haven't heard anything about Ziggy's playing time but I wouldn't be saying things about Isaac Reichmuth without checking your facts. And why would anyone say anything about Isaac being a bad goalie because Denver beat them in the Frozen Four? ARE YOU SO STUPID YOU FORGET ABOUT WHO ELSE LOST TO DENVER??? Ahem. Sorry about that. I'm not trying to rub it in or anything, just trying to say that if Isaac is a bad goalie because the 'Dogs lost to Denver, I guess schmittdoggydogg thinks Jordy Parise sucks, too. Last year Isaac struggled, but the defense was pretty bad. Losing an All-American at D leaves a pretty big hole. What is a goalie supposed to do when Steve Czech turns the puck over in the zone time after time? Sheesh! In '03-'04, when we went to the Frozen Four, Isaac put up some pretty good numbers, including a 17-3-2 conference record (23-9-4 overall) and a 2.49 GAA (2.64 overall). The Dogs scored about 4 GPG, opponents around 2 GPG, so it's not like the 'Dogs were blowing every team away. As a freshman, he was the starter. I've watched Isaac play when he's on his game and he's a sharp goaltender. Last year's stats may also be somewhat unrepresentative of his normal playing ability because it became apparant about halfway through the season that a lot of the seniors JUST DIDN'T CARE anymore. Thanks, Redwing, for knowing a thing or two about what makes a good goalie. and those of you who decided to talk smack about Reichmuth, well, just be glad you weren't talking about Evan Schwabe. I'm a nice girl most of the time, but if you said something bad about Evan, I'd have to kill you. Slowly.

Oh dear god, please not Jay Rosehill! But there's no WAY that kid is NHL ready. He plays like he's trying to kill someone. I'm hoping he'll turn into another Beau Geisler with a bit of training. God did I miss Geisler on the Bulldogs' D.

No beer at Fighting Illini games... and it is the Fighting Illini. The NCAA needs to learn that. God, I can't imagine what the games would be like if there WAS beer sold. However, I've cleaned Memorial Stadium after games, and there's definitely plenty of booze at the games, anyway.
