I didn't realize they had auto-bids for a preseason all-whatever team. Because how else do you explain players from Quinnipiac, Alabama-Hunstville, and UMass-Lowell being on there, and so many players from the top teams in hockey (and I think we know what conference they're in...) being left off? Hello, there is WCHA hockey outside of Colorado. God, quit humping Gauthier and Carle's legs. On second thought, keep doing it, they won't be able to play. I think it's pretty stupid to choose offensive defensemen for these things. The best judge of a good defensemen is not how many goals they get. They have players to get goals. They are called forwards. It's great to have a defenseman who can set up goals or score if the opportunity presents itself, but high scoring is not the mark of a good defense. Winning games by preventing goals from the opposing teams is what defensemen are there for. Maybe I will cc Steve Czech on this post. Hmm...

UMD would have a national championship if this rule had been in college hockey 26 years ago.

my point was more that bigger guys often seem to get targeted for penalties just because they're big. The Gentle Giant name would "fool" the referees.

Random notes... I didn't realize Justin Johnson was a key loss for the Gophers... I totally forgot Bruckler was gone, that is a HUGE loss for Wisconsin. "The bottom line: This season will go a long way in showing whether the real Bulldogs showed up in 2003-04 or in 2004-05." Are you kidding me? First of all that's insane, because nearly all of that team is gone. They might insert GOALIES into that sentence and it might have a nugget of truth, but other than that they can totally blow it out their you know whats. Also, did anyone notice the absence of Niskanen under newcomers to watch??? I think they didn't actually bother to learn about UMD but just looked at the roster and then consulted a donkey that stomps once for yes and twice for no. I don't know that JBSU is going to pull off anything other than dead last, with their "interim" coach. I'd say put Tech at 8th, UAA at 9th (higher if they didn't have a brand new coach), and St. Cloud dead last.
