  1. It sure is nice seeing support for the kid after a very tough January. Since his return, the Sioux are 12-0-1 and Oshie' presence has been felt. The goal he set up last night for Kozek was one of grit, toughness, talent, and heart. It is the same stuff he's done for UND since his arrival and will do until the day he leaves. He never gives up on a play, his teammates and this heralded university. That is the fabric of what a Hobey Baker Candidate is all about. The Hobey Baker is without a doubt the staple of NCAA College Hockey. Is the Hobey in the sights for another UND player, it's going be tough but time will tell. The previous posters have sum'd up T.J. Oshie with all the right credentials. His dedication and commitment to the communities of greater Grand Forks / EGF / Warroad / Seattle are second to none. Grandforkshockey summed it up with his incredible comments earlier today. The greater Grand Forks community is very commited to the UND Fighting Sioux hockey program, as they are to all sports. When times are tough that's when people need to rally for one of their own. Congrat's to all the young men and women that represent the greatest college atmosphere in North America, the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux!!!
  2. From a very close source it was Blake Wheeler who made a verbal statement to Joe Finley after they shook hands. It was a chicken sh** pot shot by Wheeler after getting thrown around like a rag doll by Big Joe in Grand Forks at the Ralph back in December. It was vintage Edina vs. Breck (oh yea, Wheeler was recruited by Breck after playing his entire youth career at Wayzata). I can tell you Wheeler would be mopped off the ice if Big Joe had a legitimate shot going toe-to-toe with him. Mazacco and Woog are such homeboys calling Finley out. Minnesota is a gut-less organization that gets the blessing of the WCHA brass every single season to host the Final Five and piss poor tournaments in the early season. This season is showing that if they had a first class, respected organization their "cake eating recruits" would stay beyond their freshman seasons (Kessel, Johnson, Okposo 1.5). North Dakota breeds success by welcoming their recruits into "the Fighting Sioux Family" for life and taking care and genuinely keeping track of every player that dons that jersey. Ask guys like Ginny Christian, John Noah how special it is to be a Fighting Sioux. The program honors and recognizes these Fighting Sioux Hockey alumni every chance they get. Ask guys like Oshie, Duncan, Finley and Chorney why they stayed at UND this season. They will tell you the brotherhood and honor of being a Fighting Sioux. You reap the seeds you sow. Minnesota prides themself in marketing "Pride On Ice". They need to get some class and wishing they had what UND Fighting Sioux players have .. loyalty, respect, dignity and toughness.
  3. I'd like to add my name to the POI vs. SS.com hockey challenge series. Haven't played in a few years but would like to display some quick hands, blistering wicked wrister, and slow feet. Usually a forward but probably can't keep up w/ the young guns anymore. If you have enough players, I will serve as the Head Coach if needed.
  4. Once again Sioux fans can utilize a great tool and find out more information about Minnesota High School Boy's Hockey in Section 8A. Section 8A lost Detroit Lakes to Section 4 but jumped to (11) teams when the Bemidji Lumberjacks and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves joined the prestigious Boys of the North Section 8A. The site can be reached at: http://section8ahockeyblog.blogspot.com/ It you should have any great Section 8A stories please submit them on the site. GO SIOUX!!!!!
  5. I had the chance to see Landon play all three years at Brainerd High School. Big goalie and very quick like. I know his father, Jim, who I sat with at the 2005 Minnesota State HS Hockey Tourney. Great family. Tried out this summer for NAHL team but was released. Best goalie at camp yet didn't make the team. So much for NAHL. He will enjoy going day in and day out against UND's snipers. He was very honored for just getting the try-out and now he's a FIGHTING SIOUX! You've had some great guidance under Coach Ty Eigner, and his position coach was former Sioux goalie Toby Kvalevog, who I've worked with at Minnesota Hockey Camps in Nisswa/Brainerd. Congrat's, Good Luck & Welcome To The Fighting Sioux Family!!!!
  6. mygarske: Thanks for the response. I'll take your comments in stride. This board is sure heating up. Can't believe how jacked up people get. I told this sioux-cia as well. I won't sit here and let people bash the kids. Done commenting on this subject.
  7. I respect that. I'm here on this board to simply see what's new in Sioux Land. I'm going to 100% stand behind the kids with any issue. That's my make up. God Bless the UND Fighting Sioux!
  8. When did this issue become a pissing match. Sioux-CIA, these comments weren't directed at you. I made comments to the poster who called me out in a rather unprofessional manner w/ vulgarity and reference to a man's privates. I don't post on this board usually. Only when I feel the public is taking "pot shots" at these kids. Yes, they are in the public's eye. This site is to talk about the team. When people go overboard about a player it's useless. If you want to bash me you can PM me.
  9. C'MON GUYS BACK OFF RADKE How many of you posters have worn a sweater in either high school, juniors or college hockey? That's what I thought. Kyle Radke is a vital piece to this hockey team even if he doesn't light the lamp or show up on the scoresheet each night. Yea, I'll admit in the penalties section. Regardless, Radke plays a vital role to the complexity of this hockey team. He's followed the staff's wish to play defense, forward and back several times during the last couple seasons. Yet, he's taken that in stride for the betterment of this organization. He is a protector and a very physical player that UND hockey has come to love. If he was 6'4" everyone would be in love w/ him. He uses the gifts that God gave him way beyond a guy 5'10" should. He brings grit, and raw determination to this team. He protects the stars when things get out of hand. He's willing to sacrifice his playing time to protect his teammates. Kyle Radke is a total team player. I think it is time all you folks start appreciating players that are role players and not superstars. It's the role players that add alot to winning National Championships. Get off the Radke bashing and start appreciating the positives of this team. Everyone is so quick to bash guys yet never, ever donned a uniform w/ the exception of a "D" level Men's beer league. Shame on you guys for always jumping on the bandwagon because a player doesn't make a road trip. If you all were so passionate about this board and start attending all the games and cheering like the Badger faithful do, we'd never lose a home game. The Ralph is a morgue most nights except when we score 2 or 3 goals in the first. Some nights the Ralph is so quiet, with the exception of the pre-game video and starting line-ups, that you can hear a pin drop. We could learn a few things about Buckyland. Even when Big Joe gives ol' Bucky the Business!
  10. Making the trip out west to Denver. On my Tour '08 ride this time to Rocky Mountain High. Went to Mile High City last March when the Sioux knocked off Minny on Ports wrap-around beauty. Perhaps two of the best games all year w/ knocking off Michigan for the second time in as many seasons w/ Osh getting the Hatty + 1 versus crybaby T.J. Hensick. He singlehandedly was the demise of his team for chirping at the officials the entire game. A good lesson for the young guys and even top end players to learn. Staying at the Embassy Suites Hotel along w/ the UND Alumni Association and Sioux fans. Not sure how many will be there but I'm excited for the made-to-order breakfast and Manager's reception at night. Had a great time w/ USA Hockey, Big A HUG and TRIOUXPER in Madison. Too many stories to mention. Felt the Sioux played extremely well both nights and deserved to sweep at the KOHL. Our Sioux fans need to "RAISE THE ROOF" the rest of the season and quit sitting on their hands during the game. Need more "Cow Bell" during the game and the student section needs help keeping the fire in the rink. The Badgers have such a huge advantage when teams visit Madison, hopefully our 11,800 will take a page from the Badger Crazies and pump up the team each and every shift. Felt the brew huh at the end of game was a sweet cap to a great weekend of hockey for the Sioux. Jonesy is an absolute Monster and truly protects his teammates. For all the people who get pissed for his aggresive play and penalties, you need to realize how important #6 is to this team. Coach Hakstol hit it on the head in the coaches show tonight that he was very pleased with the effort on both nights. Ran into another hot goaltender in Connelly just like Bachman for CC and Teslak for Tech. Some nights you simply have to tip your hat and give credit for a fine netminding performance. GO SIOUX !!!
  11. This will be my final destination to conquer in my WCHA Arena quest. Before this season, the only arena's I hadn't visited are Michigan Tech and Kohl Center. After this weekend, we quest is finalized. Now, I can rest. But seriously, I've heard from everyone around the Kohl Center is the party capital of the WCHA. The rink is electric and the fans are unreal. If you have a chance to watch the games Friday or Saturday, I feel the Ralph fans can take notice this is how a college atmosphere should feel. Growing up in Seattle, I attended the U of Washington Huskies football games a Husky Stadium. 78,000 screaming fans on the shores of Lake Washington in an open air stadium and yet the visiting team couldn't hear the snap count. That is college sports! I'm excited to see this beautiful arena in Madison knowing my quest is finished. The juant w/ USA Hockey, Big A G and TRIOUXPER will be memorable.
  12. KEEP THE FAITH I vividly remember a thread like this last early November where everyone was bashing the Fighting Sioux. Come on people, a program that plays 43-46 games a year isn't going to be polished each and every night. The years of teams going undefeated are gone forever. With the parity of the WCHA, most MacNaughton Cup winners have 5-10 league losses each year. Some nights an opponent is just simply better! CC had the edge because they were beaten badly the night before. Should the Fighting Sioux swept, yea maybe. But the rookie goaltender for CC put on a clinic. In the two WCHA losses, we ran into very hot goaltenders and added emotions w/ the sickness of Jamie Russell's son and the WBC knock-out hit by Oshie on Nate Prosser to rally for CC. The game of Friday night would have been a nail-biter if not for JPL's incredible in tight saves. It's all about timing and playing well down the stretch. You also need to realize most teams we play are 2-3 years older then these kids. Not too many programs bring in true freshmen like UND does. With youth, you will have a learning curve. A curve that simply seems to get better and more confident each and every night. There are too many "fair weather fans" on this board. Boy we love them when they are winning but jump off the band wagon as soon as we lose a game. KEEP THE FAITH SIOUX FAITHFUL What I don't like is how the Ralph Engelstad Arena turns into a morge when the Sioux are trailing in a game. Heck, I had a chance to witness the games at Northeastern and Michigan Tech and those fans cheered even louder when their club was down. These kids need that atmosphere each and every night here at the Ralph. Heck, it would differ to say that at Boston College and Northeastern the 100+ Sioux fans were more faithful then 11,800 on Saturday night. Shame on you guys who are so brutal on this site. But, low and behold, you will be the first ones in line when Western Regional tix go on sale.
  13. Yes, I'm in Everett celebrating my daughters Sweet 16 Birthday and will head to B'Ham. Seen the Everett Silvertips last night at the Comcast Arena. Nice play but nothing ever compares to the Ralph. Tips lost to Tri City Americans 6-5. Lot of energy in the rink last night. The Ralph needs to ROCK this season. I see the Sioux giving it to WWU by 14. Heading to Qwest Field on Sunday watch my beloved Seattle Seahawks. Might get a chance to get on the Sioux Radio Network @ Halftime. I'll give a report over the weekend.
  14. Exactly PCM. It will be a chance for people to see them in person and what a beautiful job Christian Hockey did in Warroad making these sticks. Credit goes to Rick Pomplun and Jolyn Landin at the factory. Christian Hockey was very generous to the 2007 Hockeytown USA Celebrity Golf Tourney. Yes, they are still selling "WOOD" hockey sticks and this old salesman might be knocking down the doors of youth hockey associations across North America with a great product that at one time was the leading hockey stick manufacturer in the world. Kids under 12 should be using wood sticks over composites due to a better feel for the puck while stickhandling and shooting at a younger age. Plus, the sticks can be totally customized to the players liking. Shoot me a message if you should have any ?'s.
  15. The 2007 Warroad Celebrity Golf Autographed Hockey Sticks will be on display and for sale during the Tailgate Party at the Alerus Center. The sticks will be sold around the Prudential camp at the September 15th game pitting UND and the Central Washington Wildcats. Cost per stick is $50.00 and anyone can purchase them. There is a limited amount of sticks available so come early. There is no limit to the # of sticks one can purchase. These sticks were signed by all (28) celebrities at the 2007 Hockeytown USA Celebrity Golf Tournament held on August 18 in Warroad. If you should have any ?'s please call (701) 330-0883 or e-mail oshie@wiktel.com. Own you piece of hockey history TODAY!

  22. North Dakota Hockey puts his passion on his sleeve most every time he submits a response. The 2007 Hockeytown USA "For Kids Sake" Celebrity Golf Tourney & Auction will purchase that jersey if bids don't get better. The jersey, a donation from the Oshie family out in Washington, will make sure the Relay 4 Life will get as much as possible for this incredible keepsake. Not too often you could have 5-10 future NHL'ers and potential superstars on one jersey. The H.C.G.T.A thanks supporters like NDH to help the future hockey players (maybe UND) in Warroad, MN.
