  1. I agree that Paukovich is a goon, thug, cheap-shot artist... whatever term you want to use. But, I'm sorry, this post was just way too over the top. Comparing dirty play in a hockey game to literally killing people? Let's try to keep this in perspective, please.
  2. If Paukovich's hit on Oshie would have ended T.J.'s season or career, would Prpich's stunt have been worth it? First off, Paukovich is a piece of ****. He brought nothing to Team USA in the World Jr.'s and he's a walking law suit as a defendant dressed in a DU jersey. Can't score goals .... simply a goon. The reason why Team USA stunk at the WJC is that they did not buy into the team concept. Too many individuals and no care to play as a team. USA Hockey should quit worrying about promoting a few prima donna's and start developing elite Jr. and Olympic 'team' players. How embarrassing losing in WJC because USAH wanted to make a few players #1 draft choices this summer. No wonder why no one would carry the games live. And the Olympics were just as bad. And to think Paukovich was a teammate of TJ Oshie. The guy will kill someone one day on the ice. Mark my words. He's a prime example of how not to raise a kid. It's my hopes the NCAA looks at the footage of his hit on Oshie on Friday night. What kind of message are you giving kids when boardings and absolute intent to injure cheap shots only warrant 2 minutes for interference. At least have the guts to call attempted murder on that move you would make in hand to hand combat w/ an Iraqi soldier in Saddem's army. 5+DQ should have been the call and a formal hearing on this players past history and current hits. If this keeps up we will have a tragic ending in some young players life.
  3. Yes Area 51, I'm the scoop of the midwest. Of course I love the Seahawks .. they were the underdogs. How's the ribs doing?
  4. They were downright horrible calls. Presumption on Ben's TD but still shady. The officials totally determined the outcome of this game. Did the better team win. NO WAY. Seattle played solid, net great. Good enough to win though. I've never blamed on official on any game I've played in or coached but this one was pathetic. The MVP's should have the officiating crew from Super Bowl XL for Pittsburgh.
  5. The Super Bowl & It's Pro-Pittsburgh Style: I felt the officiating last night in the Super Bowl was horrific. You could definitely tell who wanted the Steelers to win the 5th ring. I will # my complaints: #1: The call on the pass interference in the endzone was the absolute worse call I've ever seen in an NFL game which called back a touchdown against Seattle. #2: The 1st Pittsburgh TD wasn't even a TD. The ball is clearly in Rothlisberger's midsection when he hit the goal line. Rather then 4th and 1 a TD and who knows if they would even had scored. That play turned the game around. #3: Seattle scored another TD in the 4th when the WR caught the ball came down inbounds w/ one foot and the other foot kicked the endzone marker (the officials gave Michael Vick a TD on MNF this year). #4: With Seattle driving near to goal line a WR caught the ball at the 2 yard line and they ruled a "phantom" holding penalty where the announcers even said a bad call. Next play an interception where Pittsburgh scored again to make it 21-10. Here's the point totals: #1 - Would have given Seattle a 7-0 lead rather then 3-0 #2 - Who knows but Pitt maybe doesn't even score to keep Seattle ahead 7-0 #3 - Seattle would have been ahead 17-7 with this TD that wasn't called #4 - Another 3 or 7 points would have been scored w/ the ball inside the 5 perhaps Seattle 24-14 Yes, the crew had it out for Seattle. First time entries into the Super Bowl vs. Pittsburgh 7th or 8th. Plus Lord knows how many billions of $ were riding on Pitt winning by 5 or 6 to cover the spread. Pretty shady if you ask me. I know this doesn't pertain to Sioux Hockey but it's controversial like everything else on here. Let me know fans.
  6. My outlook on Phil Kessel changed on Monday night. He flat out was the game breaker the USA needed him to be. I too was in Lake Placid and noticed his selfish play on no "D" whatsoever. But some players are different then others. I've been told by a very close source that he is a great kid just gets bad publicity at times. He is w/o a doubt the #1 draft choice for the 2006 Entry Draft at this point. His unselfish play vs. Norway proved it. I wish him the best and the entire TEAM USA the best. They are a very dangerous team but need to keep clicking and each player needs to accept their role. Great article on Oshie posted on the TJ Oshie thread talks about roles and success. I'm heading to the PNE tonight with expectations that the Boys in red, white and blue will bring home another "W".
  7. Posted earlier on another thread but here's a great read from the Seattle PI Sports page this morning as to TJ's journey from Seattle to Warroad to Grand Forks. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/hockey/253022_oshie22.html Happy Holidays and GO SIOUX & GO USA !!!
  8. Great Article On Oshie In Seattle P-I Newspaper This Morning Here is the link to a great article about TJ Oshie and how he transferred from Everett WA to Warroad MN and the adversity he faced: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/hockey/253022_oshie22.html A great read.
  9. "Being a complete team player is first and foremost. After that, the individual awards are simple rewards for putting your TEAM first" - Unknown - http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/7Archiv...6/potw_0414.htm
  10. Great feature on Oshie and TEAM USA World Jr.'s squad: http://www.stlouisblues.com/columnists/aa_home.html
  11. I've been away for quite some time only to respond tonight. The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. If any of you Native Americans are current of former athletes or alumnists of UND, this name has a special meaning. I'm also including every other race in this forum. One simple statement. Kwityourbitchin. That's Ojibwe I think. UND has taken a positive role over the years to educate "our people" or as GK states "my people" into higher education. Simply thank them. If it wasn't for UND where would all the N.A. go? Go to the tribal colleges and stay comfortable all their life and not mainstream into society. If the answer is yes ... shame on you. I went to white colleges during my collegiate career and never once did a person mock me because I'm Native American. I want my (4) children to all venture the world and one them is doing that now attending UND. He loves the university and UND loves him. "Can't we all just get along." A statement that will live on forever. I'm sick and tired of the statements made by GK and his followers. Wake up and smell the coffee that we live in a cynical society and you must face it with vigor and passion. Quit making "our people" sound like idiots with laced, perpetual cries of racism. Quit crying over the past and make a difference in the future. Some people don't like Native Americans. So what. Don't place blame on the campus of UND over a few racist biggots. Poll every student on this campus and they'll win you over GF. You're a sad spokesperson for "your people". Your people don't belong in the same sentence as "my people" who are making this campus, state and country of the United States proud. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and GO FIGHTING SIOUX!!! GO TEAM USA!!!
  12. Like I aforementioned in a previous post, the Tailgate Bash last Saturday will go down into the record books no doubt. I will get into that Arena at some point this year. I'm sure I'll here the old voices bellowing in the rafters and how things must have been before the games knowing it was "rush" seating. The Source, perhaps the greatest Fighting Sioux booster and die hard fan, puts on an exhibition everytime I see him. Not to mention he does have a Warroad Warrior's Wall dedicated in the dining area. Without a doubt one of the most geniune I've ever met. It's my hopes, that when the next one comes around, we need more of the Fighting Sioux contingency there. Let's fill up that parking lot at the old Ralph like it once was back in the day.
  13. There was an article in the Grand Forks Herald recently about Warroad's Hockey coach Dennis Fermoyle. He just recently wrote a book defending public education. Seems like it would be an interesting book, if you care about public education. Here is a website: www.defenseofpubliceducation.com/ Fermoyle was Cary Eades' right hand man for 11 years before taking over the reigns with Albert Hasbargen last season. They guided the Warroad Warrior's to it's 4th State Championship and finished the season undefeated (1st time in Warroad history). Mr. Fermoyle was a "great teacher / coach" during TJ's 3-year career at Warroad. I've read the book and it's a must read.
  14. Yttrium is my screen name. What there nickname comes from is unknown. I do have nicknames for all those guys but will w/hold them until the time is right. Chandler 23: Whenever you want to stop by and wear my (2) MN State HS Hockey championship rings and USA Hockey National championship ring just let me know. Where do you play hockey? I coach were legends are made. I realized that the games were at Joe Sensor's last weekend but was simply asking for help if the games are also on THIS weekend since no National Broadcast vs. Wisconsin. You must be related to GrahamKracker!
  15. Baloney Bill, what an actor. I happened to be at "The Moon" on Sunday night w/ TJ Oshie. He was autographing some memorabilia for friends and family. Came across the one 8x10 photo of THETRIOUXPER and TJ. What a classic. Rumor has it Osh had TT in a head lock just prior to the photo during Meet The Sioux. Oh, by the way, Osh also had a head to head face off competition vs. THETRIOUXPER just prior to the season. Eight draws taken. Osh won all eight cleanly and TT was using his coveted Christian piece of hickory. It will go down as the Thrilla In Manila 2. Back to the tailgate. I've never been inside the hollowed confines of the Old Ralph. Maybe one day the powers that be will give that opportunity. Don't think it will ever match up to the Holy Grail of arena's I seen this summer in Lake Placid at the World Jr.'s Tryout Camp. My life is now complete of seeing that mecca. Great tailgate boys. Tailgate 2 to be announced at a theatre near you.
  16. It'll be on at Sensor's. Both places. It'll be on at my place too. If you are without a car, or with no one else in town, let me know and I will pick you up. You can either be my guest on a solid screen, or we will go to Sensor's for the drop. Least I can do after your good will on Saturday. Any youth hockey coach has got my support. Me? A Cub Scout Leader. Born and bred.
  17. I'm heading to the 2005 MN High School Hockey Coaches Conferene this week (Thur-Sat) at St. Paul. Is the Badgers vs. Fighting Sioux series televised there at Joe Sensor's? If anyone has a quick answer please let me know. I'm able to make the Saturday game at The Ralph but would love to catch Friday's game in the "Little Grand Forks" of Minnesota.
  18. UND / Wisconsin @ Joe Sensor's In Bloomington This Weekend? I'm heading to the 2005 MN High School Hockey Coaches Conferene this week (Thur-Sat) at St. Paul. Is the Badgers vs. Fighting Sioux series televised there at Joe Sensor's? If anyone has a quick answer please let me know. I'm able to make the Saturday game at The Ralph but would love to catch Friday's game in "Little Grand Forks" of Minnesota.
  19. Uncle Kracker ... where's the respect ? How come every little issue around UND or GF turns into a Native vs. White issue? The gentlemen who was preparing the Tipi has an appreciation for Native America. Simply put. Why mock the guy regardless of his race. You have a problem of white or other people non-native appreciating and supporting our respective heritages! Grow up. Every post you have in these sites are laced w/ hatred, hostility and racisism. Maybe they were referring to you when they labeled UND as "hostile and abusive". I just returned from our state's Indian Education Association Conference where the theme was the unification between our people of all nations. Why can't you simply let your guard down and say the people of UND and ND so proudly support our Fighting Sioux name and logo. Oh but wait ... here comes another cut down, sorry for me insult of Native Americans ... blah blah blah. You are a disgrace in the rebuilding of our nations. You make the white man believe all Native Americans are just like you. Full of hatred and disgust. You are what gives the white man ammunition as to how they perceive our people and our cultures. I feel very sorry for you GrahamKracker that you live a life of hatred. Maybe you should asked your Creator to forgive you and the absolute hatred you have to any non native citizens. The bad spirits really must be working on you. In order to get our Nations on the right track when need the help of the white man. We need personnel to win back our pride and to help re-generate the beliefs and cultures we once had in the traditional ways. We need to educate, inspire and lead our children .. RIGHT NOW! As I've mentioned in earlier posts, the time is now to make this transition.
  20. "So go ahead and cut me down, go ahead and twist my words, but the fact of the matter is....I am an Indian, I also have pictures and stories of my grandfathers (yes, plural, because my Indian blood comes from more than once source), and you, I don't know what you are, but if you are Indian, you aren't Sioux." Mr. Kracker: Let's come to a peace agreement. I'm not here to cut you down. Simply to tell you not all Native Americans have this poor us ... poor me approach to every day life. The ones that do, pass this on the future generations and there is no way we can survive blaming everyone except ourselves. And just so you know ... white people look at me funny too but maybe that's just the way they are. Maybe they're threatened by me. I'm not afraid to talk with them and introduce myself. Most of the time they are very respectful citizens. Regardless, this issue is way off balance. I should be the Chief of my reservation and maybe I will one day. Until then, I will continue the "Good Path" and make my life complete. Both my father and mother have native blood which I can bet makes me more Indian then you. I don't care to get a "res" check every month nor have I ever relied on one. Yes, I'm not Sioux. Obviously. But when we all breaks down I'm Anishinabe (first people). Because I disagree with you you take these pathetic pot shots just like a coward would. I come to you in peace. "But I can sympathize with you Yttrium, because I know many many Ojibwe who would much rather learn our Lakota language, learn our Lakota way of life, and in an nutshell, call themselves Sioux. Its not just you. There are many lost Indians our there. I see them all across this country. So don't think your are alone for wanting to be Sioux." GK ... why would I want to be like you? I'm glad you're not my mentor or advisor with the actions and words you portray on this site. Don't you see the way you present yourself? No. I don't care to learn your language at this point nor am I a lost Indian. Ha Ha. Your typical ... okay .. I'm not getting my way so I'll take my ball and go home. My stance is firm in my previous responses. I will not back down to that. What I've tried to do is give everyone a bright light to this subject. I've spoken my peace on this emotional issue and wish you all of life's best. Please refer to my previous message of "Build Me A Son." Please take time to read this and answer your ?'s honestly. Migwetch (Thank You)
  21. Yttrium- What does 'Ojibwe' mean in the Chippewa language? UND's school colors are Green, White, and "Prairie Rose (yuck)". In your opinion, should UND change their name to Ojibwe or Chippewa, would the school colors have to change too? If so, what would you think they'd change to that would be more symbolic towards the Ojibwe people?
  22. Here's a quick snip it from Ojibwe research: The Ojibwe were the largest and most powerful Great Lakes tribe; perhaps the most powerful east of the Mississippi; and quite possibly the most powerful in North America. The Lakota (Sioux) and Apache have gotten better press, but it was the Ojibwe who defeated the Iroquois and forced the Sioux to leave Minnesota. Very few Americans realize that the Ojibwe were a major power. Their location was well north of the main flow of settlement, and their victories over native enemies have never received proper credit. A variety of names (Ojibwe, Chippewa, Bungee, Mississauga, and Saulteaux) and division of their population between Canada and United States has masked their true size. In addition, the Ojibwe never fought with Americans after 1815. Even before this, their participation in wars between Britain and France or fighting Americans in the Ohio Valley was fairly limited. Considering the prowess of Ojibwe warriors, this was probably just as well for the Americans. However, this does not mean they have been ignored by government. As the Chippewa, they signed more treaties with the United States than any other tribe
  23. And now ... starting at center for your 2006-07 Univeristy of North Dakota Fighting Ojibwe ... Has a great ring ... we were and continue to be the Fighting Chippewa's or Fighting Ojibwe !!!
  24. Aniin and Hou-koda to my brothers & sisters: Thanks for your kind replies to my heartfelt message. The things that go on at the UND campus go on everywhere in this world. You cannot stop the way other people feel. You must go on. That's why our reservations are the way they are right now. So worried about what someones saying about you .. about our people. Have you ever said anything negative about a white person grahamcracker? We all know that answer. Just like I said last night ... we must move forward and quit crying about the past and how someone hurt my feelings. My feelings get hurt everyday but I get up for work ... help kids ... make my family stronger to accept people of all color ... dream and aspire to do better. This issue (the Fighting Sioux name and logo) is all about power and how our people once again get influenced by the white man in what's right for Native Americans. Don't you realize what the word "honor" means. You never told me if you were an athlete too grahamcracker? Well, are you? Why don't you go and talk w/ every single former athlete, current athlete so you can see the passion and pride these Fighting Sioux warriors have. Shame on you for trying to take something away that your entire state is so proud of. Maybe they can teach a thing or two on loyalty, pride and dignity. You better wake up and smell the coffee. You should be proud that UND has chosen to respect the Sioux nation. And just because someone hurts your feelings you want your people's namesake taken away. As I mentioned ealier, I'm Native American and making a solid difference in lives of not only our people but children of all colors. It's what the Great Spirit choose me to do. I see them only as human beings ... as Americans ... as our brothers and sisters. It's 2005 and we must move forward. By losing that Fighting Sioux name and logo your Sioux people will forever lose their identity. But maybe that's what you want so no one can hurt your feelings anymore. It's time that UND and the students (alumni and current) take a stand to keep the Fighting Sioux name. May the Great Spirit protect and guide you on your "Good Path".
