Maine has had a lot of early signings the last few years and doesn't have the recruits or talent to compensate. It all but guarantees that they stay near the bottom of the pile in hockey east.

The NCAA rewarded first seed Miami last year by sending them to play Providence in Providence (even though Providence wasn't the host school), so I don't think they care that much about protecting the higher seeds. As for everyone's concern about Denver, considering the streak they've been on, I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Frozen Face-off. If they do, is it possible for them to sneak up and take the 4 spot?

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Malone got an assist the other day, so he wasn't on waivers for very long.

I'm not necessarily for or against combining tournaments, but I think it would make more sense to combine the WCHA with the NCHC than the B10. For one, most NCHC fans have a long history with the WCHA teams most likely to make the tournament (whether that history comes from the old WCHA or now-defunct CCHA), so I think there would be more fan interest in the games of the other conference.

The primary issue with this is the risk made in hoping the host team makes it. If it's being held in Ohio and Miami gets bounced the weekend before? Good luck. I don't think schools would agree to keep it rotating just between UND, UMD, and SCSU either. (I just picked those 3 as the most centralized options).

Not only that, but momentum is a funny thing. It may seem like an unimportant game, but it's hard to predict what would happen to the team's mojo if they lost.

That is exactly my worry. I seem to remember a lot of players going out when we played them earlier in the season.

Carolina placed Malone on waivers today. He's been a healthy scratch recently.

Wolanin and Shaw will likely split, but I think Wolanin has progressed significantly faster this season. I'd definitely take Gornall over Olson. Same physicality but has more scoring upside, I think. He definitely proved his case in the games he's played. I'm not sure if Sanderson will play both games this weekend, but I would expect him to play at least one. Not only has he started scoring a bit, but he's also been much better with finishing checks and winning puck battles along the wall. He's a bit slow on his skates, but he's a great PKer.

I'm not surprised we didn't see Tomek last night. We all know there are two Cam Johnsons: the one with the four game shutout streak and the one that played against LSSU last year. If you sit Cam after one bad game, you risk the chance that he gets in his own head and reverts back to LSSU Cam. I think it was a smart decision to let him get back in there and settle in. Love the energy and combo of Gornall/Sanderson. Not sure who said it earlier, but it is so much fun to watch them score because they get absolutely giddy, and I think the rest of the team gets just as psyched up for them. I'm sure I'll get razzed a bit for this, but I can see how Ausmus was called for a major in real time. I didn't think the hit was anything until the CC player didn't get up. Then I watched the replay repeatedly. It's not much, but Ausmus leaves his right foot a little bit in order to hit higher. With the way the CC player's head snapped back, I don't blame the refs for that one, though I expected it to be contact to the head rather than boarding. All in all, good to see this team put in ten goals without Cags and Schmaltz. Should be interesting to see who's in the line up when those two come back.

I don't remember who was complaing about Boeser's frequent blind passes, but I'm guessing that's something that he has to adjust based on new linemates. I've seen him make several throughout the year (usually with success) because the CBS line has a knack for knowing where each other will be. Obviously, that's not something he can afford to do right now.

I can't remember where I read it, but CC has major struggles scoring in the first period. Part of the reason they beat St. Cloud is because CC got two goals in the opening period. Hold them off for the first 20 minutes, and we're sitting pretty. If anyone can find the article I'm referencing, I'd appreciate the link. It was a midyear eval of all NCHC teams. I don't like posting info without crediting the peoples.

Obviously, Drake being healthy and playing is the ideal option, but I think Gersich looked good up on that line after Drake went out. It's almost as if there was an extra level of effort on his part in order to play on par with Boeser and Schmaltz.

True, but most of our NHLers showed significant improvement in both college and the pros. They aren't stunted in college and suddenly become amazingly better players once they leave. The lone exception to that may be Forbort, who is significantly better in the pro system. I'm just playing devils advocate. I don't recall the article saying that Minnesota doesn't produce NHL players. I think the issue is how much more said players improve once they leave Minnesota.
