  1. I believe they actually went away from him and gave Slubowski the start last night.

They did, and I thought it would be their undoing considering how solid Hafner has been. Clearly, that wasn't the case, and they have a phenomenal goaltender tandem.

  2. Personally, I don't reward fluky goals in a top goals competition. I prefer clean goals that exhibit true skill. Caggiula's move around the D followed by the perfectly placed top shelf shot from a difficult angle is as nice as it gets this year.

It depends on what you mean by fluky. The fact that Grimaldi's second goal went in is fluky in my opinion. But on some of them, the puck bouncing in the air may be fluky, but the hand-eye coordination to still hit it in for a goal is not.

  3. Justin Kovac's goal where he walks through the UMD defense has got to be up there. I'm more impressed by that one than by Caggiula's.

Unfortunately, that one is up against Grimaldi's second (in the black jersey, against WMU), and Grimaldi's will likely win and knock out a really good Kovac goal.

I picked that Kovacs (2) goal over Grimaldi (2) as well. Just impressive all around.

  4. I like that one too. I have it losing to Caggiula, though, if I'm remembering the right goal.

Both Hebert goals are on the other side of the bracket. The one he's referring to is going up against Pitt in the second round.

  5. I agree with southpaw, it's like branding the NCHC's top 5 goals of the week. SiouxTupa is just a hater, and apparently has never listened to Barry White, cause it's not even close.

Nothing like attacking another poster in your second post on this board. Go away, troll.

  6. Clearly, someone who didn't want to sift through and unofficially rank 80 goals this year decided just the #1s were eligible. If you can't win your own week then how can you win the tournament? Only scrubs have complained about that.

You only hear the song once a week, but it signifies that hey, this is the Top 5 goals. You just know what's going to happen next when you hear that extensively awesome music play. NBC has their three note jingle and you know you're watching NBC. Same is true for Top 5 goals. You know you're ready for something intensely satisfying when that music starts up.

We know awesome Sioux hockey starts after the obnoxious "Get on Your Feet" song, but that doesn't make it any less assaulting on the ears.

  7. Well, I guess we just found out what UNO will bring to the Target Center should they win this series...five more fans than Denver would have had. C'mon, Omaha, support your team!

I wonder how much the attendance was affected by it being a Thursday night game.

  8. Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere.

Are the games available on TV anywhere outside the Midco region?

    Thanks

Not sure about TV, but all conference playoff games are available for free on the NCHC website.

  9. Not to rain on your parade, but I voted for the goal that is better not for the team that's scores the goal.

Thank goodness! Got a little bracket pool going with a few friends; my picks are based on best goal; others voted on the assumption that Sioux fans would push all the Sioux players through.

  10. Let's just get rid of bids completely and let the four #1 seeds host, doesn't matter if it's a big arena like the Ralph or the Kohl Center or a smaller eastern rink like Merrimack or St. Lawrence. If you earn a top seed you should be rewarded. Just imagine how hot a ticket it would be if you had one of those smaller rinks and threw in a couple of western big guns like UND and Michigan. Atmosphere would be incredible.

But that's just your opinion. Personally, I found that being only one of roughly 2,000 people in a 12,000+ seat arena in Grand Rapids last year created an incredible atmosphere. :glare:

    (sarcasm alert)*

  11. That was my point. You have some or most posters here taking the position the UND's MBB is better than NDSU's because UND beat us head-to-head. Then as the season progresses and NDSU clearly becomes the better team (RPI and other rankings) and the Summit League is clearly rated ahead of the BSC, most UND fans say RPI and power rankings don't matter. We beat you head-to-head so that doesn't matter, and conference power rankings don't take into consideration the "eye" test or silly things like that.

That's why I say St. Cloud State is better than UND in hockey--using UND logic to get there!!

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and, in this case, I'll go with that!!

Except the cases aren't comparable because, not only is SCSU higher in the pairwise and RPI, but they also beat us head-to-head (3-1). I didn't see anyone here saying that the Sioux are better than the Huskies because of either of those components. We may think we'd beat them in the tourney, but that factors in that anything can happen in a one-and-done situation.

  12. Brad Malone with his first Goal of the season for the Aves tonight against the Blackhawks.

That was a gorgeous goal. He took it up ice and chipped it up the wall to himself to get around a defender, then made a tight angle sniper shot from just before the goal line.

  13. Third year I believe...maybe second. NCAA clearinghouse limited eligibility years at UND due to whatever course work she took over in Europe. UND will try for another year, but many are saying that it will be shot down and she will have no eligibility left.

It's her third year playing, and eligibility was actually limited due to a league she played in in Europe, not coursework.

  14. Who gets the Friday night game? Top seed always or lopsided attendance scenario goes to better drawing second seed? (This year is SCSU obviously.)

Josh Fenton will decide based on who makes it.

  15. Seems to me the second period historically has been the worse. Not that it was so much a minus as they have never scored a lot of goals in second.

Which seems to be way different this year. I haven't looked up specific stats, but most of the blow outs have come because of strong second periods. That probably plays a factor in why the third isn't as strong.

  16. MM?? What about me? sprig? The 4 of us are a wolfpack. "Hangover"? Kids play... Remember the 4 of us...that time...Backstreet Boys concert, 2 llamas, a White Castle drive thru and those 3 Gopher cheerleaders?!?!

    Bro...EPIC!!!

'Cause we're the three best friends that anyone could have. The three best friends that anybody could have. And we'll never ever ever ever ever leave each other.' :p

  17. I think a newbie PxP guy was part of it, though he did better than I expected (plus I graduated high school with him, so I don't want to bag on him too much). But I think the biggest problem for watching on TV was that they had the crowd mics turned way down. Even the band was quiet than usual. Maybe it wasn't great in person, either, but it was even worse on TV.

Considering Friday was the first play-by-play he had ever called, and he got a 3-hour heads up, I thought he did amazing. Half the band was in Bemidji with the women, so that's why they were quieter. Neither is an excuse for the crowd to not be cheering, though.

  18. I took a look back at the UND vs CC scores for this season and last year's. Based on these results, I'm predicting scores of 3-2, 3-4, and 5-3. UND in 3.

    5-3 W - GF

    3-2 W - GF

    3-4 L (OT) - Final Five

    5-3 W - GF

    3-4 L - GF

    3-2 W (OT) - CC

    3-5 L - CC

Always some pretty close and exciting games. I remember the 3-2 OT W in Colorado Springs last season. Sioux scored to tie with barely anytime left to force OT. The game was so back and forth, my friends and I could barely breathe. And of course we totally lost it when the Sioux scored in OT. World Arena was rocking with Sioux fans.

  19. Apparently, UNO starts its series on Thursday because of a concert.

I know, but in that part, I really was talking about the regionals. If I were UNO, I'd be mad because either the arena didn't think they'd get home ice or didn't care.
