Of course that was considered. It should have been considered. It should not have been the deciding factor.

You do realize the GOBC is some guys who are self proclaimed insiders. I don't believe in the tooth fairy but I used to get money if I lost a tooth and put it under my pillow. Santa and Bunny are real and have more influence than the GOBC here and everywhere. The GOBC folks will be able to chat with decision makers if they donate a few thousand each year but then the decision makers move on, laugh about some of the stupid things they just heard and move on. If you want the bartender to change the big screen to your game talk to the GOBC. If you want to influence UND and the athletic department you need at least 8 figures and then you better now what you are talking about. Sanford offered an initial $10 million with a promise for more for the exclusive Sports Med rights and UND passed. Keep that in mind before you believe a few thousand a year gets you a "seat in the board room".

If you don't, know don't email. Speak from your heart and tell him what you think. Doesn't matter what any of the rest of us think. Your opinion is as valid as any of the rest of us.

That is just as inaccurate as the baloney people claimed about hiring Hakstol cuz O'Keefe was his father-in-law. Lowell obviously supported Bubba, but Lowell doesn't have that authority nor power. There were a lot of people who supported Bubba including former players, coaches and boosters. Doesn't matter right now, what matters is whether or not Bubba is the guy to continue to lead the program. I have stated my opinion. State yours, but leave the guys family out of it. Stick to the task at hand. Comments on whether or not you want coaching changes make sense, but this kind of stuff will get everyone sidetracked.

No he won't.

Gundy, Your info on the concussion isn't accurate. I pulled his helmet and have never pulled a helmet for a kid who complained of anything for 2 seconds. We utilize a strict concussion protocol similar to that used at colleges and the pros across the country. Our athletic trainer will come in on weekends to start the protocol as soon as possible once an athlete is symptom free. He is also going to be cautious because we had at the youth athletic level who repeatedly was returned to play and who did not have proper concussion management and lost his last year and one half of contact sports because he has what appear to be permanent cognitive deficits. One of my former teammates, who was arguably the best linebacker in UND's history, is now in a nursing home. No high school athletic event is that important. The 240 lb DE end could have compromised his chances to play in the next game had he played and got hit in the head again. It is tempting for medical staff to send kids who seem fine back to soon because we want them to be able to play and we want their teams to be successful. I agree the game might have been different with our DE playing. We are obligated to follow a strict protocol in order to protect the athletes. It protects the athletes and it protects the school from litigation. I also agree our RB who ran for over 1600 yds playing in just over half of our games this year is a kid to watch as is our QB and our kicker. All 3 kids need to continue to develop and physically mature. Bubba is aware of all 3 of them. I semt him a note on the Willmar QB and they were aware of him but said they would take another look.

You raise a key point. Although I don't believe for a moment he is clueless, but when we struggle repeatedly in an assistants area, why does he still believe that coach is the best one to help our program.
-
Good question, but I bet 7-4 and beat NDSU we are in the playoffs

I don't think hockey has ever been run like family business. How many people wanted Hakstol fired. He was one of the most successful coaches in college hockey. He was recognized by his peers, his players and NHL coaches and executives. How many rubes wanted Berry gone when we started 0-2-1? Some people don't seem to understand that you can be a good coach and still have ups and downs. UND football is run like any other business. The speed by which we are moving to our goal of perennial playoff participation and championships are limited by our financial resources just like any other business. Good corporations make all of the resources available for their employees to be successful, then mentor them and support them. They don't fire someone every time there is a setback. We took our first step by winning the Big Sky Championship. We have had a setback last year and this year. Now the executives need to evaluate, step in, mentor and make sure the staff has all of the resources to continue to move the program in the right direction and be successful. We have made smaller strides this year than I would have liked but a lot of people predicted 7-4 at best. 7-4 isn't good enough anymore but unless you think we are prepared to start the 5 year cycle all over then although you may be right, I believe we should stay the course. How long depends on the rest of this year, recruiting, positive changes within the program including staff and additional resources. As fans we need to be part of the solution and many of us are trying to do that but believe me, I and others are just as frustrated if not more than you and others.

Haven't ever been on the wagon. For now I stated why I think Bubba should still be the head coach. He needs to decide who his staff should be. Ultimately he is the guy who will be held accountable. Whomever our coach is will need Phase II of the HPC. We need to solve the problem of needed resources in a smaller community. If anyone thinks changing coaches right now gets us statewide TV or a big time donor I respectfully disagree. NDSU, SDSU, and USD have Sanford. UND and Grand Forks passed on Sanford. We can't worry about upsetting a local business if they can't get on board with competition that can benefit the University. In addition to the initial $10,000,000 Sanford offered , the other 3 schools have all gotten much more than the initial millions in the subsequent years. If you are going to change now, where do we get the additional $$$ to pay either a top FBS asst. or a proven successful FCS head coach or "up and comer"? We weren't prepared last time to make the change. If the time comes when we change coaches for whatever reason we need to be better prepared to pay not only the head coach but also the assistants. We also need to be prepared to pay Bubba and his staff if they get this thing turned around and someone else tries to hire them away. We still have a ways to go before I would worry about what the AC is doing. I will assume they are continuing to perform at a championship level until proven otherwise. I share your frustration but right now I still think Bubba can do this. Oxbow I believe you and some others have been consistent in your opinion of the need for change. I don't believe that we are at that point. Bubba needs to make whatever changes he deems necessary to move us forward. You and I can afford to be wrong. He can't.

This isn't the time because the season isn't over. For those of you whose lives seem adversely affected by the success or failure of our FB or Hockey teams I've got nothing for you. I would not want the AD choosing our assistant coaches. He chooses the head coach. I'm disappointed in our three losses, but I also recognize we are three big plays ( either our mistake or our opponents big play) from being 8-1. I'm not sure I would fire our coach over three plays. I thought our Oline was much improved and had a decent year. I like our receivers when they are healthy. Our RB's are very good. We have great depth and decent tight ends. I'm not a Rudolph fan but I thought we had a better offensive scheme and rhythm. This year than last. I would support a change. Defensively we struggled more than I thought we would have. Someone mentioned hiring some coach from another school because the players like and respect whoever it was. Same can be said for the coaches we have here. Defensively we were bigger and faster than last year. Special teams were a huge disappointment. Young kicker needs to develop confidence and consistency. If he can't, we need someone who can. We can't miss extra points and need to be money from 45yds and in. . Punt blocks can't happen. Punter needs to understand game situations and is way too slow. There have been punters who couldn't make an NFL team because they were too slow getting the punt off. If your teammates don't block it doesn't matter how fast you are. Punts improved from beginning of year to now but doesn't matter how well you punt if you get blocked. Kick offs were not into end zone until Idaho game. Kickoff coverage was weak and inconsistent. Coverage guys who don't stay in their lanes and converge on the kick right away create opportunities for the return team. How many times this year did the opponent start on the 30 or 40 yd line? Most of the criticisms here, including mine, are the typical Monday AM QB stuff. I would keep Bubba. He is more upset than we are. He is closer to these kids and has more to lose than any of us. He seems to be able to recruit. He certainly has worked his butt off trying to improve attendance and the game day experience. I believe he is capable of leading this program and winning an FCS title. Starting over isn't an option right now. We have a number of good kids committed and this is a young team. I would hope Bubba would bring in or assign a QB coach. We have a very promising QB committed and we have have 3 pretty good QB's here. I would support a new OC if for no other reason than a change at QB coach. As far as injuries, I don't have an answer. It is too simplistic to blame the Strength coach but I don't know if he is any good or not. There is a lot to be said for. Keeping this group of coaches together and on task. Bubba believes every decision he makes must be made with the vision of building this program to the level of perennial playoff top 10 team. Once you are there, you can win a title. Chavez needs to have a meeting with Bubba first, then the staff and ask them what he needs to do to move this program to that level. Then Chaves and We, the fans and supporters of the program need to deliver. That is continued scholarships, Phase II of the HPC, and improved game day experience. We can't jump ship every year we fail and can't knock each other over jumping back on the bandwagon when we succeed. We need the fair weather fans too but those of us who want this program to be successful need to stay the course. Those of you who want change have valid opinions and may be right. The fact that some may still believe Bubba can do this, doesn't mean we have any lower expectations than you who don't. I have had some interesting experiences at the high school, college and NFL levels that give me my perspective. That doesn't mean I know more than those of you who love the game but never played beyond middle school. I don't believe the program can afford losing the 2019 recruits to bring in a new staff that may be better but may not be as good. One thing we can do to increase our chance of success is to continue to tailgate and have fun and attend the games and support the program. Bigger checks and /or new money is always welcome.

Playoffs this year would be a gift even if we win last two.

Thanks Dad. (Just kidding, I appreciate that). Still see all home FB, most home hockey and some BB.
-
Flick of his wrist for a 25yd completion. He looked like it was effortless.

I would have thought you knew. Pretty simple. A shot of Vodka on ice then fill with diet coke. Toss in a lime or lemon slice to make you look more sophisticated. On the other hand, who are we kidding? For you, a shot of diet coke on ice then fill the rest of the glass with Vodka. Toss in a slice of Bacon or beef jerky to make it more you.

Just spent 1/2 reviewing this subject and previous posts. Willmar, Mn QB Dirk Dricksen 6'4" 185 lbs. Never mentioned as. 2019 recruit. He tore up a very good undefeated Detroit Lakes team last night. I know he is also an outstanding BB player but he has big time talent. Big time arm. Threw for 4 TD's and the DL DB's had good coverage almost all night. I think only twice were there missed assignments. He was 11 for 19 with a couple of drops. Had 148 yds passing and 4 TD's and 120 yds rushing. He keeps plays alive with his athletic ability and as he scrambles he is always looking downfield. Good speed and great quickness for big kid. DL was missing their stud defensive player but the Dirksen kid makes a good Willmar team great. Has Mollberg's arm but a little taller and he is quicker. He can start at UND and I think he is better than the 2 guys the Gophers have started this year. Of course you have to take my opinion with a grain of salt. I also tried to convince UND Adam Thielen could have played at UND. Check out his HUDL highlights. You can't have too many QB's. I would offer this guy. Willmar 's receiver Ty Roelofs should also be looked at. Great hands, good size. Good not great speed.

Maybe it helps some of the players know which direction they should go.

If they think the logo on mid court will help their program, I would wonder how. If they think the logo mid court would look better, I agree. I also could care less one way or another because my focus would be on developing a successful winning program which can be done regardless of the logo or name. That is why programs over the years have won or lost regardless of the name or logo. The Betty needs a new scoreboard more than a log center court.
-
I don't believe anyone has chosen to "divide" itself from anyone else. The hockey coaches over the years have been supportive of the other coaches and programs. Their focus needs to be on hockey. Same with our other coaches and their sports. Who gives a rats behind about the logo? The old one is fine, the new one is fine and the new mascot is fine. If your support for your athletic team or your happiness is dependent on the logos and who wears what, then I feel sorry for you. Who cares what emblem a coach wears? Having been around UND athletics for quite some time in different roles, I can tell you that never once was the logo or name an issue when teams and athletes competed. We really didn't discuss it. I think of the logo now as I have all along: It isn't an issue for me one way or another, never has been. Wear what you wish and don't worry about what someone else wears including players and coaches. Otherwise, you waste a lot of emotional energy over nothing.

It seems if the biggest issue is having people with aviation experience on the committee that determines fees for aviation students it would be simple to solve. Kenndy should have called Delorenzo into his office and told him he should have been able to fix this without involving the president. He should have told him then to him to ask Higgins for a recommendation and take care of it and also let Delorenzo know it should never have gotten this far. If Delorenzo has a problem or disagreement with a Dean that he can't solve to the satisfaction of the Dean and Delorenzo, then Kennedy should be informed before it becomes a public embarrassment. It doesn't cost anything to listen to each other and show mutual respect.

Huge upgrade at QB compared to last 3 years. O line improved but needs to get better. Hard to measure against weak team. I don't think we will be able to run against Washington. No excuse for receivers dropping ball. They need work on basic fundamentals. Not sure why receivers coaches don't demand basic fundamental habit of looking ball into your hands every time you catch it in practice in warm-ups etc. Look it in, tuck it in. Every time. It becomes a habit and then you don't drop the ball as often. I also liked that Bubba got a lot of kids some playing time. That will pay off as year goes on. Biggest concerns were: secondary, dropped balls by receivers and special teams. I don't like Thursday games. Tail-gaiting wasn't as good because of people still at work. Not sure how refs microphone isn't working and if it isn't, why there isn't an immediate replacement. Couldn't understand announcer sometimes. Nothing from Alerus to jack up crowd (music, video etc). UND needs to review what makes game more fun for fans, then work with Alerus. The marketing folks I know claim a big deal is getting fans, especially students on the big screen but involved in games. Winning is best solution and it is a work in progress. Was great to see Mark Chipman at game. Great supporter of UND. Great story with his role in bringing Jets back to Winnipeg.. I had a nice visit with him at halftime. Humble guy who has done big time stuff for Winnipeg and the Jets.
