I read something recently that made me wonder how the Fighting Irish got their name and came across the following from March of 1953... Why the "Fighting Irish"? I thought some might find it interesting, that the name began as a slur and they took at as a badge of honor. Hmmm.

Every time I read something like this, it strengthens my belief that Ron his Horse is Thunder truly does not speak for the people at Standing Rock. His fear of this issue being putting on referendum is understandable. He would lose. The more support for the name such as these comments in the Herald the stronger the voice is for the name and against the PC police. Go Sioux!!!!

My reading of the above is that one person can speak on behalf of the Spirit Lake tribe, as long as that person is authorized to bind or speak for the tribe. It would not require a tribal council vote. I admit that I have zero knowledge on the structure of tribal government, but it would seem to me that Tribal Chairperson Pearson could use the vote this week as the approval of her constituents and speak on behalf of the Spirit Lake nation and bind an agreement with the SBoHE.

Another "sport" trying to make it to the Olympics is ............ Pole Dancing. I have a hard enough time watching any of the other "judged" sports, ie, gymnastics, diving, skating, boxing.... I'm sure not going to watch something as stupid as this. If you can't figure out the winner of a sport without a judge involved I don't like it.

To say we are living in interesting times is an understatement.

I know I'm going to take my lumps for this, but as I said here, win the Spirit Lake vote and change the name. The University comes out looking like the good guys, the anti-nickname people, the bad. Sure you can say that UND should continue to fight for the name, but the anti crowd isn't going to stop and they have time working in their favor. UND has a deadline to meet with NCAA and a possible conference invitation waiting for resolving the issue. The point has been made by this vote, that the NA community doesn't agree with the NCAA that the nickname is "hostile and abusive". UND has been vindicated. As Sica always says, "Control what is yours to control." UND and the SBoHE can control the issue right now.

I think they would be hard pressed to dispute the totals. 2/3 of the vote in favor would be tough to argue, but you never know.

Nice. I wonder what comes next?
