  1. I thought about the Alerus ballrooms when I hatched this idea, but didn't know what the capacities were. If this 15,000 could be met utilizing the ballrooms that would be even better and make things real interestng. The reason that I suggested the Ralph, is that you would have to average 15,000 and, like I said, I wasn't sure what the total capacities were for The Alerus, inclusive of suites and ballrooms. If the numbers were close to 15,000 it would be hard to average 15,000. Could you count the people in the Canad waterpark too?
  2. You are in all likelihood correct that the NCAA would change the rules, but I thought the rule was there to prevent schools from going to the FBS level that shouldn't be there. If a school, such as UND, didn't have a large enough venue and used a dual venue system until such time as they had a permanent 15,000+ venue, why should the NCAA care? The 15,000 benchmark of support would be met, just not in a single venue. This is all an argument of exercise anyway.
  3. Thanks for the definitions for attendance. I don't see anything that would preclude the use of dual venues for "attendance" to the game in the "paid attendance" portion. Especially with the following highlighted phrase While I admit it is highly unlikely that a school would implement such a plan, I tossed it out there for a "food for thought".
  4. Going back to the origins of this thread. The Alerus seats approximately 12,300 people, which is fine for FCS football. I don't think that figure includes the suites, but we'll use the 12,300 number for now. To qualify for FBS football a school must... In the event that UND ever decided to to FBS, the Alerus is obviously not big enough in and of itself, but what constitutes attendance for a game? I'm sure at many FBS games people sit in luxury boxes watching the game on the TV monitor in the suite and may never even see the field, but they are counted as attendance. What if UND started selling out the Alerus for every home game and people were being turned away. What if the Ralph were used for overflow, selling seats at a reduced price, so people could watch the games on the big screen, sit in suites, sit in the club lounges, could they be counted as attendance? Think of it as an extended tailgating party. Bring in some half time entertainment. I know UND hasn't approached this point yet, but attendance was at around 85% of capacity last year (the first year of FCS) and the Sioux are locked into a 10 year Alerus lease. Does the NCAA have a definition of what constitutes actual attendance? Paid attendance? Combination of the attendance from the Al and the Ralph, hello Mountain West. Okay, now I will put on my tin foil hat.
  5. McFeely resigns post from The Forum, plans to take new job Love him or hate him, he did stir the pot. Good luck, Mike.
  6. Not the best list to be on, but hopefully the Sioux will make the most of the opportunity. [url=http://www.crimsonandcreammachine.com/2009/5/7/867775/big-12s-most-embarrassing-non]Big 12

  11. I read something recently that made me wonder how the Fighting Irish got their name and came across the following from March of 1953... Why the "Fighting Irish"? I thought some might find it interesting, that the name began as a slur and they took at as a badge of honor. Hmmm.
  12. Sharkova signs with UND women’s basketball for 2009-10 season 6'5". Wow.
  13. Another comment to Mr. Uken's piece from Dont C., Bismarck... Every time I read something like this, it strengthens my belief that Ron his Horse is Thunder truly does not speak for the people at Standing Rock. His fear of this issue being putting on referendum is understandable. He would lose. The more support for the name such as these comments in the Herald the stronger the voice is for the name and against the PC police. Go Sioux!!!!
  14. I thought this was such a good piece that it deserved it's own topic. VIEWPOINT: Nickname speaks to warriorship
  15. My reading of the above is that one person can speak on behalf of the Spirit Lake tribe, as long as that person is authorized to bind or speak for the tribe. It would not require a tribal council vote. I admit that I have zero knowledge on the structure of tribal government, but it would seem to me that Tribal Chairperson Pearson could use the vote this week as the approval of her constituents and speak on behalf of the Spirit Lake nation and bind an agreement with the SBoHE.
  16. Another "sport" trying to make it to the Olympics is ............ Pole Dancing. I have a hard enough time watching any of the other "judged" sports, ie, gymnastics, diving, skating, boxing.... I'm sure not going to watch something as stupid as this. If you can't figure out the winner of a sport without a judge involved I don't like it.
  17. Unknowns remain after nickname vote

  19. How is it that Florida State has no problem with the namesake issue...
  20. Do you want to muddy the waters even further...ND higher ed president runs into opposition for second term Not that the president of the SBoHE has the power to do anything unilaterally, but it does make things just a little more interesting. To say we are living in interesting times is an understatement.
  21. Sioux nickname, Morrie Lanning on 'McFeely Show' For those who want to discuss the issue....Phone numbers are 293-9000 and 1-800-279-9329.
  22. I know I'm going to take my lumps for this, but as I said here, win the Spirit Lake vote and change the name. The University comes out looking like the good guys, the anti-nickname people, the bad. Sure you can say that UND should continue to fight for the name, but the anti crowd isn't going to stop and they have time working in their favor. UND has a deadline to meet with NCAA and a possible conference invitation waiting for resolving the issue. The point has been made by this vote, that the NA community doesn't agree with the NCAA that the nickname is "hostile and abusive". UND has been vindicated. As Sica always says, "Control what is yours to control." UND and the SBoHE can control the issue right now.
