Gopher FB player charged with sexual conduct
LennonIsTheMan replied to Sioux_Yeah_Yeah's topic in Football
MafiaMan, It looks to me as though that is a made up myspace page that someone has created. I'm guessing it's someone trying to make him look bad. My guess is that the real Dominic Jones myspace page has more than 2 friends. But that's just how it looked to me and is just my opinion of course. I hope you won't get mad at me and flame me for having a difference in opinion. -

I agree. An indefinite suspension would have been the better move until outcome of this case was a certainty. While I absolutely do not condone the supposed actions of these players, I am a believer in the backbone called "innocent until proven guilty". Duke lacrosse is a perfect example, as is the Kobe Bryant incident. Kobe was guilty of adultery in the end, not rape. Quite a big difference between moral law and federal law. -
I have to say that I have agreed with fs1 on this topic way more than I have with The Sicatoka. However, in this instance I have to say that I disagree with fs1 in regards to the whole Ziegler issue. First of all, to have a baseball coach stay at the University of North Dakota for as long as Ziegler did, speaks volumes of his loyalty to his job and the University. Look at the budgets he has to deal with on an annual basis, all of which he basically raises himself with his players being the primary employees. He also has very limited money to work with in terms of scholarships. All that being said, he has been here for 14 years and has a great track record in my eyes when considering the financial constraints he has had to work with. I really get upset with some UND fans when they say that "other" sports that aren't their favorites really don't matter in the big scheme of things. Loyal and true UND fans will cheer for every team in every sport. Real UND fans don't just cheer for hockey, or just football, or just basketball. It really annoys me to hear someone say that a loss like Kelvin Ziegler won't matter. More often than not, it's the hockey fans that have the 'holier than thou' attitude when it comes to cheering for other UND athletics and supporting them. I often hear comments like, "who cares, it's not hockey." I love watching UND hockey and supporting them, as well as football, and basketball, and baseball, and volleyball, and so on. I just really disagree with the fans who have the elitist attitude toward certain sports at UND. I think there are fans of specific sports at UND, and then there are pure, true fans of all UND athletics. Losing Kelvin as our baseball coach hurts, IMO.

I would like to preface this post by saying that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Opining over the various and numerous topics about UND athletics is what make these forums fun. Thanks to the moderators for providing this service. I share the same opinion that there is a huge problem in the athletic department, largely because of the A.D. I do not think it is a coincidence that Rob Bollinger left UND to take a position at Bemidji State, at which time Rob was working underneath the A.D. He would be vital right now for the transition fundraising process. It's very unfortunate that we lost a man of such character and loyalty as Rob Bollinger. I also do not believe people would just make up a rumor that Hakstol and Lennon are not happy with the current administration. I, in fact, believe that both are not happy with the current A.D. In any case I would have to side with the die-hard, green-blooded letterwinners from UND, who now happen to be leading our programs to great success over the Lt. Col. from Army who has been here for 2 years. But of course that's just my opinion. Post is getting cut short because of work......

HockeyMom, your opinion on the whole RB deal is probably somewhat true. however, fs1's post comes with a lot of truth to it as well. most of the sioux fans who are privy to the athletic department situation, i believe, feel the same way as fs1. IMHO, fs1 has the correct scoop on this topic. but of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Sounds like it is going to be up to the UND administration to keep Dale Lennon in Grand Forks. All indications at bobcatnation are saying he will be offered the position (I do however keep in mind the source of the info). What kind of legacy will the current administration want to leave? The one that let Dale Lennon go, or the one that got Dale Lennon to stay? During the transition to Division 1-AA football, he will be the most important cog in the wheel. Time to step up to the plate, Mr. Buning. The ball is in your court.

Wow. Star2City posts two articles about neighboring schools who will soon be our opponents in many sports, and does it with no personal comment that attacks either school. Enter Aff - completely defensive response to a post with no offensive comments. Aff, you need to settle down man. You blow up on here all the time and it gets tiresome to read. It's unfortunate that those two incidents happened, and we all know that the coaches at those universities couldn't possibly have known that they would commit those crimes. Nobody ever said otherwise. I hope that never happens at our great institution.

You couldn't possibly be comparing the 'N' word, Hitler, Nazi's, and white supremacy to use of the Sioux name. I know you are more intelligent than that. There are no cities, towns, rivers, parks, or roads in this nation called "Naziville" or "Hitlerton" or "N***** Town." Please use common sense when comparing the two. Yes, SOME are offended by the name "Sioux", but it pales in comparison to what your are trying to explain.

Leave it to some juvenile bison troll to get off topic and ruin a perfectly good UND thread and discussion. Kinda like a little brother punching somebody and then running.

So is it safe to assume that this is the hire to replace Tim Tibesar? If so, who is the new D-coordinator?
-
Especially NDSU and all that has happened with UND maybe its a better thing they have gone their seperate ways, I know many fans on both sides of the issue who are glad they don't play anymore. Who in the hell is glad that ndsu and UND dont play anymore? Are you serious? Both sides love that rivalry and miss it dearly. The two schools need each other whether they like to admit or not. Anybody who says otherwise is delusional, has sour grapes, and simply doesn't understand the rivalry that was/is.

Potential Head Men's Basketball Coaches
LennonIsTheMan replied to choyt3's topic in Men's Basketball
Don't get me wrong, I think there have been some questionable decisions made. I also think some of the tact used to make some of these decisions was lackluster. In my opinion, I really believe Buning wants UND to go D1 and take it to places it hasn't seen. If he has intentions of going to a bigger university as an A.D., it would look great on the resume to have a successful transition on his watch. Just like the fundraising plan he orchestrated at Army. But like I said, he has to have the FULL backing by his superiors to be able to do it. We are a D1 institution in ALL aspects - as a formality however, still currently at the D2 level. We will fall to D2 quality very soon if certain steps aren't taken immediately to preserve the quality of the institution as a whole. -

Why is Betty Ralston on the committee in the first place? She is the compliance director for the athletic department. Tell me where in her job title it says she should help with hirings of new coaches. It is absolutely embarrassing and unethical of her to start dragging people from her former job to her present job. The sad thing is, EVERYONE knows that it's her pulling the strings on the Weemer process. On top of it, he has her as a reference on her resume? Now that's discreet. Here is what has happened at UND within the last year or so: 1. The loss of Tim Tibesar, which probably couldn't be helped - no blame on administration there. 2. The loss of Rob Bollinger - we still don't really comprehend how much this will hurt in the long run. 3. Rich Glas leaves - 18 years of service to Fighting Sioux Athletics. 4. Look at the applicants for the basketball job. We are walking a very thin line right now as an athletic department. The quality of personnel at UND has definitely been diminished. How much longer before we go public and say we aren't going D1? Then budgets will be cut, then coaches will leave, and the dominoes will fall. If we lose Dale Lennon because he doesn't like the direction everything is going, then UND has lost the war as an athletic department and institution. We need a new president, we need a new athletic faculty representative, and we need a new vision. I truly believe Tom Buning can do a good job, as long as he has the backing of his superiors to make the right moves. I don't believe he has that now in place. Remember, he's a Lt. Col. from the U.S. Army. He's following orders, and will not "rock the boat". It's what he knows. Also, I am totally in agreement that Brekke and Lennon should be involved in the hiring process before Betty Ralston. They have the best interest in the University in mind. -
Yes, some of the other sports will struggle early on. It will be part of a growing process for those programs. But why can't those other programs improve down the road and eventually become contenders in their conferences? Heck, even the football team will have an adjustment period to deal with. It's called competing at the highest level that you possibly can. And UND CAN compete at D1 and D1-AA and do quite well in the near future.

that's comforting.

Exactly my point fellas. I would like to see percentages of season ticket holders that were surveyed, and which sports they came from. 500 season ticket holders were sampled. From which sports? How many season ticket holders are there from all sports, and each sport individually? In my opinion, this survey was manufactured to get these results precisely. I do not believe that these results truly measure what EVERYONE involved believes in regards to making a move. Complete waste of time, especially when you don't include the biggest financial backers in regards to making a move - the alums.
-
OK, as nicely as I possibly can, I am applying one collective "b***h"-slap across the face of everyone here on this thread: "Data from 400 season ticketholders, 400 students, 545 employees and 336 faculty members was used for the survey. The survey did not specifically address alumni." How much stock can we actually take in this survey. Anyone who took the survey knows that the questions were heavily skewed and biased in its questioning. I think Phildo or Chuck may have actually handwritten the survey themselves. And how dare they use the word "stockholders" without addressing the biggest donors for the program - THE ALUMNI. This is simply a propoganda tool for Chuck to use with the media if he decides to not go D1. I don't like where this is heading. We need to start a replacement search for Chuck and Phildo as soon as possible. That means getting them out of their current positions first. The survey was/is complete BS.......IMO GO D1!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing everyone needs to remember is that yes, architects and engineers design the building and write the specifications. But this ONLY happens after being approved and driven by the owners of the facility. Hence, the "approval process". I'd say the owners of the facility did a poor job of putting the facility together and making sure things like concessions stands in the hallway didn't happen. I think rushing the facility to be finished was a big mistake.

If i'm not mistaken, Strouth played in 2003 and 2004. 2005 would have been his junior season. Because of early injury, he got his junior season back. This means he will be a junior next fall, and will have two years left. Hence, Strouth will be a junior next season.
-
While it would have been nice to sign the Eastview tailback, it really isnt that huge of a loss in my estimation for UND. I was surprised they were even considering recruiting a tailback considering what they have on their roster already. Beatty will be a senior, Strouth will be a junior, Brandon Brady is going to be a sophomore, Jordan Armentrout will be a sophomore, and Ryan Chappell just finished his redshirt year. So I don't think it's that big of a loss with all the talent they already have. Besides that, it doesnt seem like the kid was very interested in Grand Forks at all according to the article. Apparently there is a lot more to do in St. Cloud, like drive to Minneapolis. But if a kid doesnt want to be here and isnt in it 100% then it is probably better that we didnt get him. We want kids who want to be here. Good luck to the kid in the future.

I agree. C'mon Matt Gratzek, commit to UND buddy. :-)
