oh......ok.......so as i see it, now its down to UND, Minnesota, ndsu and Mayville State for Anderson. Well, that certainly ups the ante and price for Anderson now that Mayville is involved.

Wow. There are alot of good coaches on here. Especially OC's.

It was refreshing to see this http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/12838926.htm in the Herald today. No bitter childish, juvenile trash talking or spin by some smug, unhappy, sportswriter who's trying to be big-time and make a name for himself. No "my dad can beat up your dad" rhetoric, no pissing match incitations. Just reporting the facts of the story is nice to see every once in a while. I wonder if the Fargo Forum is capable of this or if they will always have that wannabe big city reporter attitude forever, and feel like they have to write some negative column on every issue that involves the Sioux. Living in Fargo and having to listen to a couple of the columnists here is like listening to my 5 year old whine and complain on a regular basis. Hell I even feel sorry for ndsu too with the negative commentary they have received in the past. Hey Forum, this is North Dakota......NOT New York. If you want to go to a big city and rip apart every college or professional athlete, then look for a job there. Dont try bring New York to North Dakota. Wow, did I just ramble on longer than I wanted to or needed to. My bad, but I feel much better.

this topic is ridiculous. will an admin lock this thread down please? he is going to jinx us looking ahead that far. let's beat ferris first, then we can talk about Bubba's boys wanting to beat us IN DULUTH.
-
My understanding of this whole issue is that there was A LOT of frustration on the part of the recruit because of the fact that ndsu wasn't even calling her duing the recruiting process. Then after they lose their point guard, they go calling her AFTER they knew she had verballed. Unless they dont read the paper, there is no way they didnt know it. Illegal, no. Immoral and unethical, yes.

Was Lennon wearing cleats?

Belmore is the starter and that is why they leave him in. Obviously the coaching staff believes he is the better of the QB's right now. For you to say that Dale is "thoughtless" because you disagree with that, is ridiculous. More often than not, rotating QB's can be very negative to the continuity of the offense, otherwise it would be more prevalent at every level. There are a lot of good Qb's that are backups at every level. Not everybody can start. You have to have role-players on the team as well. Without them, a team would not survive. No doubt, Manke is a great athlete and a good QB. However, for now he is UND's backup. Do you think that every HS coach who sends a kid to college expects every kid he sends to start? I really don't think you believe that. I listened to the game and Manke was in the game midway through the 3rd quarter with the "ones". Sounds like everybody that dressed with the team yesterday got in the game. So I don't believe anybody sat on the bench during the blowout, except for the starters. By the way, for the other Belmore bashers out there. He was 10-12 for 176 and 4 TD's. Thats a efficiency rating of 316.53. Not bad.

Administration makes ALL the difference. For example, parents' constant griping to coaches and administrators happens more prevalently at one school in Grand Forks then it does at the other. And that is because one of the schools "put their foot down" on that stuff from the very beginning. Support of the coaches is huge. One GF school has a great tradition of coaching continuity in alot of their programs, the other does not. See my point here? Directly and indirectly, it has EVERYTHING to do with your top 5 list

In my eyes ESPN, you forgot the most important reason. #1 on my list of problems at Red River is administration. Many of those reasons that you mentioned are results of poor leadership at that level.

Very cool clip, havent seen that one in a while. He made the Bison secondary look slow on that play and they were very good. I'd be interested to see more clips from archives like that if anyone has any. Maybe some of the clips from the "Most Memorable UND Football Moments" thread from earlier this summer. That would be cool. Thanks for the clip.

All of those are very good and memorable plays that will go down in Sioux lore. One of my other favorites was Kelly Howe's play against SDSU's Josh Ranek in 1998, I believe. Ranek broke through the line for a long run and was clearly in the open with a 10 yard lead on everyone. Howe runs him down at the five yard line and punches the ball out from behind, and then it is recovered by a UND d-back in the end zone for a touchback. It was voted "Hustle Play of the Year" and was one of the most amazing plays I have witnessed.

does anyone have access to chuck's letter to the football alums? i havent seen it, and would love to read it.
-
Chuck........just go to Marshall.
-
(ahem......) common sense.

Legend, you arent listening. A lot of us feel Rob is the best man for the job. Hence, our disappointment he didn't get it. I also would say that keeping the guy that feeds the proverbial monkey, is pretty damn important.
-
my point exactly. (by the way, its not "kuppy", its "Chuck")
-
like i said, by definition he isnt. common sense says he is.
-
maybe by definition Rob is not a UND employee, but by common sense he is. how are they not considered employees of UND? they work in offices right in the center of campus.

ok......(deep breath) I would first like to state that I will give Buning the support he deserves to perform and perform well as the new AD. It sounds like he is qualified in many ways. I hope he does the job well. Now, my take on why Rob should have been the man in this instance: (MY OPINION) 1. Rob has been associated with UND for 20+ years. 2. He has the pulse of the UND alumni, and that is an understatement 3. His regular job duties that he has been performing over the years could easily be equated to that of an AD, more so in some instances than others 4. Losing Rob all together at UND would be devastating in more ways than one, and would totally offset any "shortcomings" he might have because of not having AD experience in the 1st place. (this could very well happen) 5. He knows what is going on with all the major issues at hand right now at UND. (nickname, and D-1 move) I would want to have nobody else as the AD to make the move to D-1. All that being said, one thing people dont realize is that Chuck does not get UND athletics. He just doesnt understand the loyalty and support given to athletics here. It is just different than many other places for obvious reasons. But, I dont think Chuck really cares to "get it" either. He is rarely seen supporting Sioux athletics, and always has something better to do it seems. He seems like a very disingenuous and insincere man in person. I really think that the sour taste that was left in his mouth at SE Missouri St? really effected his whole take on athletics. Apparently they made the jump to D-1 on his watch, and everything kinda went south. So, reasons why Chuck DID NOT want Rob in the first place: 1. Chuck wants a YES man to make his job easier with things such as the nickname issue. Who better to have than a man from the military academy that understands and will follow the proper chain of command? 2. Chuck wants a guy that doesnt have too much say with the alumni that will raise a stink. 3. Chuck does NOT want to deal with the D-1 move because of reasons mentioned above. 4. Rob was and is a football guy, so was Roger Thomas. 5. Athletic department re-appropriation and cutting of funds, and budgeting concerns that have been rumored to be pissing off some coaches on campus. Again, he needs his AD in his corner on this. I will be very upset if we completely lose a guy like Rob from our institution. If this does happen, I believe that the pros of hiring Rob over Buning would have severely outweighed the cons of him not having AD experience and losing him completely in the long run. He is a very valuable asset to the University as a whole, not just athletics.

here is my opinion on what happened: 1. 3 candidates were interviewed. 2. After interviewing them, one of them wasn't considered a "finalist" by Phil and/or the committee. 3. Chuck had asked Phil and the committee to submit a list of 3 "finalists" from the beginning, and says "I want THREE finalists, not TWO." 4. Chuck makes Phil go bring in another applicant. 5. Buning comes in and interviews. All this being said, yes the door was open to bring in others. But I feel that they thought they had the best 3 candidates to begin with. Apparently one of them wasnt fit for the job, so Buning was brought in. Just my 2 cents. PCM is right though, Phil's old tricky political talk did leave him "outs" on the situation.
-
ohhh, sicatoka. i like you, but it is pretty naive to think that. but you are entitled to your opinion.
-
I totally agree with you. You chose the candidate that didnt make the initial cut. Figure it out, Chuck. I feel bad for Buning. Probably a great guy and qualified, but at the same time, people are gonna be mad about the whole situation. Nice work, Chuck. Hopefully you stay around for years to come. Maybe we'll be NAIA D2 by the time your regime is through here. Both you and Phil need to find a new home. Let's hope we dont lose Rob now. Stay Rob, we need you.

nice topic. made-up crap about a UND player leaving, which isn't true at all. why would someone make this up and post it? get a life.
