Miller looked a bit off this past weekend against WMU. He may be coming back down to earth a bit after his hot start. Need to come out flying and get plenty of rubber on him in the first 10 minutes. Think this team is going to be amped up to play a top tier opponent at home.
-
^^^ very likely that it’s a silent commitment and that him / UND don’t want to shakeup his season until after it ends. (Assuming they think his Q team won’t take it well once he officially commits)
-
I think we'd like to have this exact option though in a future season where a 1st half hasn't went well. Recruiting has it's ebbs and flows so for a year where some freshmen clearly don't pan out / a goalie doesn't pan out I'd 100% be open to adding a player mid season if the staff thinks they can make an impact. I think you want to be careful with doing this too often but do it when it makes sense for the player and can jumpstart the team.

For as good as Tynan Lawrence seems to be they're gona need alot of players to up their game compared to what they did in the 1st half of the year. Granted picking up a player like him might help team morale.
-
2nd half jump candidates: Kernan - he's really started to come on as of late. Seems like he's adjusted to the pace now of college now and feels comfortable making plays at the right time. Reschny - he maybe played slightly too much on the edge in that WJC semi-final but loved his aggression with taking the puck to the net and not deferring. Based on what he's done in the past year during U-18s, WHL playoffs, and now the WJC, he's not afraid of the moment.

Traveled to watch that series. Wanted to stay positive about that season after the sweep but in the back of your mind it was concerning how easy we were to beat.

Eiserman looked brutal at the WJC for the most part. Turnovers, ineffective at puck battles, just seems to have little confidence going right now.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Counterpoint. Notre Dame was missing Kempf along with some Spengler cup players for one if not both of those games. WMU also plays with more structure than I would say Penn State and the Gophers so its an easier game for WMU than it will be for Penn State/Gophers IMO -

The student section lacks a little bit agreed. Outside of the student section though, the average age of typical attendees skews a little bit older at the Ralph it seems, would assume that may change in the coming years. (more or less, younger the crowd the more rowdy in theory) -
I might be biased, but I'm fine with Carels skipping his Prince George games on Tuesday and Wednesday to visit Grand Forks
-
The Clarkson series is currently set for January 1st and 2nd next year at home. Will be interesting to see if the coaching staff looks to move that series to a different date. Safe to assume we'd be missing a good chunk of players next year for the WJC again.
-
The age stipulation is that you start to lose a year or so of eligibility. I can't remember the specifics but just for rough close example (if you arrive as a 22 year old, you will be considered a Sophomore in lieu of a freshman)

Suvanto according to elite prospects is on junior contract (so I believe he hasn’t signed an actual pro deal? Could be wrong though someone feel free to correct me) Overall though very exciting to hear our name in the mix for recruiting. (Especially considering we weren’t present enough in rinks the last few years per past reports). Credit to Bryn and staff for putting in the work in this short amount of time.

Obviously, we may be biased on Motzko but even Scott Wheeler called out Motzko for poor coaching. Had Kvasnicka invited to prelim camp when we all knew he was likely to be cut Hindsight is nice but taking a look at a center based on their lack at that position wouldve made alot more sense Him and Greg Brown don't seem to be getting through to this group at all on how they need to play to win. When they've been at their best they've kept it simple and played North. (they cant lie to themselves and try to be a skilled team in this year's case) I'm not sure the actual minutes but it seems like one of their best lines (Spellacy, Zellers, McMorrow) isn't getting nearly enough time on ice. I think he needs to cut it out and at least play EJ on the 2nd pairing. EJ can't do any worse than Logan Hensler at the moment. I will give Bob a break on that fact that he has had some brutal performances from alot of the better players (Hagens and Eiserman come to mind right away). Granted though I don't think Bob has helped spark them at all either. I'll be shocked if Bob is behind the bench for another WJC. We just have way too many good coaches to offer currently to go back to him (Carle, Pecknold, Pandolfo, Hastings, etc). Could definitely see Smaby as an assistant as well on some future teams.

He did put up a 100 point season 2 years ago hahah. I'm confident he can be trusted in the 4th line role they'll likely have him in. I did see Pinto's name thrown around. If JT still has injury issues in late January I wouldn't be shocked to see him slide in as an injury replacement.
-
Schloss just tweeted his preview story. They got back to grand forks around 8PM last night. Which is sooner than I would have guessed honestly. They might still be sleeping hahah. Let them rest up until 5PM as far as I'm concerned.

My brain hurts reading all of the idiotic comments about Brock Nelson and JT Miller being on the team lol. Yes they don't score as many goals as Jason Robertson but outside of that they can skate and keep up with the pace, WIN faceoffs, PK, Play PP in a pinch. (ALOT of things that I don't think you can trust Robertson to do frankly)
-
Couple players of note that Bryn is following on insta Oliver Suvanto (Finland). Playing as we speak right now at the WJC Marcus Nordmark (Sweden)
-
Big time clutch goal by him. Overall he had a solid night in his own zone when he was on the ice in lieu of some of the other Canadian defenders.
-
Watson seems to kinda fit the shoe of the typical donor you'd see to kick start a program
-
I wouldn’t have guessed we’d be in on a player from the Q but we it looks like we may be based on Lars Steiner. (Guessing that Bryn tried getting him to the USHL back in the day so knew of him) But agreed odds are we aren’t at the top of the list. Based on a lot of factors if Nesbitt goes to the NCAA it would be a huge upset if he didn’t go to MSU. Stramel likely gone as well opening up a center spot + Nesbitt and Martone both being in the flyers organization.
-
With Rickwood graduating this year I'd lean towards them finding a center who's ready to contribute at that same level (play in alot of situations and win draws) . Similar player to what Reschny is this year (which doesn't narrow it down much haha could be a transfer, 2025 draftee / 2026 draftee). Wouldn't be completely shocked if they're focused more on looking at players drafted in 2025 so the player isn't as raw. (IE, drafted players that haven't signed. Nesbitt and Desnoyers still haven't signed which possibly means they are looking at colleges for next year. The bummer is you get them for 1-2 years max likely)

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

The Canadian pre-tournament and WJC games you can watch via "onhockey". Similar to Streameast so you may have to battle a few pop ups but it worked pretty solid when i watched the Canada vs Sweden game this past weekend WJC is the one time of year where it makes sense to bite the bullet and get sling TV, etc to have access to NHL Network. -
Speaking of WJC coaches. If Canada somehow implodes again this year, I could think of a coach in Grand Forks with some Canadian ties to lead the team next year... (they'd never do it though)

Present day the way all teams have played, Wisconsin seems like the toughest team to beat. I’m thinking that could change in the 2nd half with Michigan state possibly becoming that team Still though, in a single elimination tourney we definitely have a solid shot at beating either team.
