  1. My biggest concern about McCarthy is the fact that Lynn University has neither hockey OR football, the two biggest sports at UND. Sure he has AD experience but I have a feeling that running the athletic department at Lynn would be very differant that at UND.
  2. I know I am pulling up an old thread but construction on the new wellness center is going fairly quickly. They have a link here where you can check out construction pictures. They have not been updated too recently as a majority of the framework is done and they have started on the walls. I enjoy following construction of new buildings and thought maybe some of you that are from out of town would enjoy checking out how things are coming. Hopefully they will update the photos soon so everyone can see how far along it is coming. Plans and Construction Pix
  3. I've probably met alot of the people who post on here
  4. That is also what I have heard. They want to keep space available in case they decided to expand the medical school building. I have a feeling the soccer team will be playing there for many years.
  5. Did I ever say it was a great field? I was just stating a fact. They have Bronson field and will be playing there for years.
  6. It is something called a recruiting area. The reason we are only getting recruits from these few select areas is the simple fact that is where our recruiting area lies for our various sports. Every sport scouts only a few selected areas of the country. UND does not have the money to be flying our assistant coaches to every single state in the country. If a move to DI were to happen, more money would be invested in recruiting so that our recruiting area could expand.
  7. P.S. You forgot to mention that UND has more Native American programs than any University in the nation. They began construction this spring already on a new Native American services center.
  8. Woahhh, I don't think it is quite that drastic. So you're saying if we tear down UND's hockey arena there will be world peace?!?! Maybe you need to come out of your hole and realize that the University of North Dakota does NOT have a mascot.
  9. Definatley a must!!!!
  10. Also, the chances of legislation happening to allow only FB teams to move up is zip to none. Schools that are already DI are not going to give up a bigger cut of the true money maker on campus to allow DII schools to make more money on FB while not committing the rest of their sports to the DI level.
  11. There is a difference between moving teams up for the sake of moving them up and actually moving them up and supporting them. There is no reason that our swimming and diving teams or golf teams, etc. couldn't be competative at the DI level as long as the school actually was dedicated to making them successful. With a little commitment from UND and the Athletic Department, such as extra assistant coaches, money for recruiting trips and visits, even recruiting top notch coaches, there is no reason that we could not have non-revenue sports be competative. Track and field would probably be the hardest to be competative in at the DI level as far as non-revenue sports.
  12. I watched the hockey teams practice in 2001 in Albany. I was suprised how many people actually were there to watch. Plus you get alot of free pucks that are shot out of the rink!
  13. Anybody want to give a flat-a$$ broke college student $1,000 bucks so that I can make the trip to Columbus? Consider it an investment in the Sioux fan base for the run at our EIGHTH.
  14. What a joke. This conference needs to get some real leadership in it.
  15. I just sent ESPN an e-mail asking them why they have still been using the old Sioux logo. Hopefully I either receive an answer back to this question or else we only see the new logo used during the broadcast and on SportsCenter.
  16. They have sure always had problems in the past getting our name right.
  17. No matter what happens in Columbus, this has been a great season. There have been alot of ups and downs but that is what makes being a fan interesting, following the team through thick AND thin.
  18. Jealousy brings the best out of people. Should be a fun 2 weeks chatting with others.
  19. I don't think it is a bad idea. I understand that just by moving a non-revenue sport up to DI it is not going to automatically be the big draw in town. But it would make a potential future move slightly easier. And with a little commitment from UND, there is no reason we could not have more nationally competative teams in DI. I like the idea.
  20. It is better than nothing. At least they made some sort of attempt. I wonder if it was one of the players or coaches who suggested it or if someone higher up in the AD or school decided on it. You have to wonder how much it means to the players, that's the big question.
  21. I don't know, it probably would have been a pretty close game.
  22. Some friends of mine and I did the same thing on our way to Phoenix. We drove straight through taking turns sleeping and driving. We turned a trip that had once taken us 3-4 days into a 27 hour drive. Half the fun of trips is getting there and nothing beats a road trip!
  23. "Perhaps fittingly, the tournament exodus began with a shutout, BU at the hands of North Dakota, 4-0. The game was far closer than the score would indicate but a loss is a loss is a loss. " I can understand if the game had been 4-3 and UND got an empty net goal or two at the end to make it 6-3, but how can you call a 4-0 shutout close? It would have made more sense if he said that BU played better than the score showed, but not closer.
