2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
hockeytherapy13 replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
Ciskie even put UND's ceiling/highest likely spot to finish as 3rd which really showed his colors of hatred for us even more. Even though we have more talent than Duluth this year, I never assume we will stomp them because they are so well coached and structured. But I do have a strong desire for Ciskie's tears so I'd love it, too. Although I'm sure he will just complain about reffing if we beat them. -
You took the words right out of my mouth. winning a recruiting battle with big 10 for a guy at the NTDP is monstrous. Loving this one

2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

I haven't listened to this week's podcast yet, but I'm guessing the fact that he's a righty and older means he got a great shot at being a regular. With having 8 newbies on D, I think age is going to make a big difference along with those that already have college experience. Especially with us playing some very good teams early in the season. -
2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

2018-2019 was really rough to watch at times and we bounced back in impressive fashion in 2019-2020. More of that please and thank you -
Maybe it’s because our last 2 seasons we have had older, proven goalies that were transfers instead of our own recruits? Don’t get me wrong, Wodon is definitely a tool and doesn’t like UND. But to say he’s being inflammatory with the goalie comments isn’t totally fair, given our recent history.

Seriously it seems like the staff is checking every box in a big way. Our 3 portals guys plus Livanavage could make for a great top 4 next year. Get them here early this summer to get some chemistry rolling. Good stuff

So far it’s been a net gain. I’ll take Connor Ford, Zach Driscoll, and Chris Jandric over Johnny Tychonick any day. I’m bummed to see Costantini leave and wish we could have developed Brent Johnson more. Hellsten, Budy, Bast are all very replaceable. But so far it’s been a net gain. Time will tell with the newbies but I’m excited about what we’ve grabbed from the portal this year. Give me another decent RHD and we will be looking okay.
-
Does anyone think there’s a possibility Brent Johnson opts to stick around? I lean towards “no” but he’s a right handed defenseman that would get more playing time than he did last year. Still probably not going to happen but just food for thought that I wanted to throw out there and see what you all thought.

2023 National Championship Game: Quinnipiac vs. Minnesota

And he will turn 25 next month. Another thing they used to chirp us for -
He is a left-handed shot. FWIW

We lost a 2-1 OT game to Notre Dame with our best player injured. If Sanderson is in that game, I am guessing we actually get a power play goal and end up getting to the 2nd round. Maybe we get bumped by Mankato but maybe we wouldn't have because our Defense and goaltending were very good near the end ofthe year last year. Sanderson provided the extra offensive bump from the back end that we were missing at the Frozen Faceoff (we also didn't have Kleven that game) and at the Regional. Not fully letting Berry off the hook because this season has been mindblowing in many ways. It seems like it's a combination of player gaffes and coaching gaffes but something has to get fixed for sure.

Saying we had a bad recruiting class this season is beyond crazy. That’s where he lost him. -
2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Duluth's 2018 natty had a lot of freshmen defenseman. Wasn't expected but somehow they pulled it off. To say neither of those programs didn't do it with high end freshmen shows you haven't been paying attention. Mazur, Behrens, Buium were all huge assets for Denver last year. The gophers have some of the best freshman and sophomores in the country right now and will be going very far into the playoffs. Skilled freshman are needed with a blend of reliable upper classmen. -

I'm not going to wave a flag around for the Big 10 but the Big 10 has been good for longer than people give it credit for. In 2018, 3 of the 4 teams at the frozen 4 were from the big 10. It just so happens that Duluth was the team that came away victorious. -
Sounds like something this board has been saying all season
-
Love the look of these forward lines but Bast and Moore on the same D pair is concerning. Guessing Portz and Albrecht get the same amount of time tonight
-
The crazy thing is that we have the talent to pull something close to this off. But chances of them actually doing it are slim to none.

Saturday night with Duluth-Spicer's Revenge???
hockeytherapy13 replied to Wilbur's topic in Men's Hockey
Yeah Portz was one that came to mind for me too. Moore is still not great, but he's a little bit better than last season. -
Fully agree. There's no way 20 would be in a suit lately, he's been good in all 3 zones.
-
I'm not sure 6 should be playing over 4 or 24 if we want our defense to be better at the moment (not that 4 or 24 or great defensively but it's an upgrade from 6's capabilities). Unless they want 6 as an extra skater and throw him on the power play. I am huge fan of breaking up 10-27-19. I wanted that even before the season started. I actually think 28would be good on that line since he is actually a capable defensive forward. I'd rather see 10 be the extra skater and just use him on a PK or to throw on the 4th line a few shifts. Seems like he's lost the offense spark he started the season with because he's been on the power play and hasn't done much with that. But maybe a new line in general would get that rolling again for him. Maybe 10 should sit out a night, keep 26 in as a good offensive player, and then bring 29 or 13 in and let one of those guys rough up some bulldogs to help maintain puck possession.
-
Something sad withing me feels that Both Howard and Spicer are going to have their big season breakout moments this weekend at REA... And none of us will be surprised.
-
At first I thought you were suggesting this as a new line combo lol. But the reality of what it actually is happens to be much sadder than that…
-
I don’t think anyone wants to roll status quo. But to say the season is done and we should start 6 every night over 2 (or anyone) hasn’t been watching. Get Judd off of a scoring line and put him with the shutdown line (put one of them as the extra forward to kill penalties), get DeRidder in the net and keep him there for good, no more switching. Break up our defensive nightmare of a top scoring line by getting 21 instead of 22 up there because 22 doesn’t have the size or grit quite yet. Get 18 on a scoring line again because he’s got the speed and skill to do it. Oh, and Stop taking 26 out of the lineup, FFS. And I think the one thing that goes without saying is they Portz has a lineup spot for sure as he’s been one of the best forwards the last 6 games.
-
Oh we are definitely going on the road. But being 5th against Omaha is better for us and looks better than 7th or 8th against St. Cloud or Denver. But there are 6 full weekends and 36 potential points left of regular season hockey left, dude.
