  1. Yeah this would be a great line and would also ensure Swanson gets on a line better suited for his offensive needs. He has to be with at least one guy with higher skill who can finish. We still have yet to see “the line” who is going to take the game over and be the one who can always be relied on. We’ve seen flashes of it with 26-9-21 but it seems like the consistency just isn’t quite there yet. The final go-to big line might need Perron somewhere in the mix.
  2. If you can believe it, I think Geno might even be getting worse…
  3. Getting swept by Cornell and a loss/tie to bemidji are going to continue harming us. It’s going to take a lot more than a home sweep (I guess 1 and 2/3 wins) to level us off due to bemidji and Cornell being less than stellar lately.
  4. I was very wrong about what we’d see this weekend. Major props to the guys for having the mental toughness to stay in the game after going down 3 separate times.
  5. “At the end of the day, you’re a F***ing pu$$y”
  6. I didn’t get to see the game so now I’m really curious. Are we guessing coaches were throwing words because of a nasty scrum at the end of the game or cheap Play one way or the other? Not often you see Berry do that with another coach so it had to be something pretty bad
  7. One thing to note about St. Cloud is that their SOS is ranked 4th compared to ours being at 34th now. Just gives some context to how SCSU might be, xG be darned.
  8. True but if we had a defense playing as well as theirs I can assure you our overall save percentage would be higher too because less quality shots would be getting through. They are already playing stingy defense the way a tourney team would play (see Denver’s 2024 NCAA scores). Closing out 1-goal games takes everyone on the ice. Semptimphelter was pulled in the first period of a game for the first time ever in his career this season. Is that because he got worse as a goalie? No, it’s because he’s been absolutely hung out to dry multiple times since we haven’t figured out how to properly protect the house yet. And I say “yet” with great hope that we somehow get that together haha.
  9. Why move him when he’s having such a productive season so far? (Ahem, Sarcasm emoji) I was wondering the same thing, though. We all know his history is big numbers at the college level at center but it’s not happening here. He either needs a change in position or to hang out on an energy line for a while to see if that sparks something. Having him in a top-6 scoring role is holding back the whole team 5x5 and that won’t fly against Clown. He seems defensively reliable and is good in our own end which is probably why they keep him at center but he might need a little change up.
  10. If you’re going to have a backup, it might as well be Gavin Enright because he’s no slouch and has a good possibility of having a solid series against us. The thing about St. Cloud this year is that I’m not so sure they need a world-stopper in net because they play such good team defense. Thats an area where Larson seems to excel and it’s the opposite of where we’re at right now. The forwards and D are going to have to figure it out because Each week Schloss makes it seem less likely that Zmolek won’t be playing this season and even if he does it won’t be until very late in the year.
  11. I badly hope I have to eat all of those words when they pleasantly surprise us this coming weekend
  12. Getting Croal back in the lineup was a noticeable boost to the team this weekend and it seems fair to say that we would have lost or tied one of those games without him. He has the same number of points as Wilkie in half the games and much less ice time. Get him more ice time somehow. If Macdonald and Jammer are only at 75% they should play this weekend (depending on the type of injury, of course). Even if it’s just on the PK or to help in a late 1-goal game or late tie game. It will be 3 weeks until the Manitoba exhibition and 4 weeks until ASU for them to rehab. We need their hockey brains on the ice for defensive sake.
  13. I’ll be honest. Based on the mediocre season we are having and the impressive season SCSU is having, most signs point to the huskies grabbing 5/6 points in our barn. I’m at the point where if we get a split, I’ll be happy and take that as progress because we haven’t beaten a quality team since BU 7 weeks ago. Our PK and 5x5 D zone coverage are too poor to have confidence in us managing a split.
  14. Hard to be worse than Geno Parrish who does color for st clown. That guy is such a fanboy and is as unprofessional as they come. It’s so painful
  15. Has anyone else noticed that when Swanson plays with skilled players good things happen? I realize it’s the power play and we have an extra guy but seriously let’s stop stifling this kid.
  16. Croal has as many points as Wilkie but Wilkie is still playing 1C with Berg out. Meanwhile Mac Swanson is playing on a shutdown line. Berg and Jammer can’t come back soon enough. We played terrible when Miami had possession in our zone and TJ didnt bail us out when we needed one save. Play Hobie FFS
  17. It’s not hard work tonight. They are working hard but they are playing like absolute idiots once the puck enters our zone
  18. Hopefully Littler doesn’t take another penalty this weekend. His TOI to PIM ratio is something else. Will Swanson get to use his creativity on a line with Schmaltz and Kunz? Another interesting combo but idk where else he would go in this lineup right now. With how some guys are playing, seems like a line With Swanson-Croal- Monty might create more than what we’ve had. But maybe we score 6 tonight and prove my negative mindset wrong haha
  19. The biggest problem with the NCHC is that there aren’t many cupcakes to build momentum and confidence. We had a few in the WCHA but those days are gone. Our only bottom dweller is a well-rested and motivated Miami for us to face on the road with us having a decimated lineup. And while other teams in our league have been steadily progressing we have a long ways to go. The gauntlet is good and bad because although we have a great chance to climb the pairwise, the competition is so heavy that it seems unlikely for this young group
  20. Win and a shootout win, I’m not confident the boys can get 2 clean wins. With their level of play and injury situation, it’s just unlikely. But these days we will have to be happy to come away from Miami with 4-5 points haha. Glass half full: it smells like a weekend where unsung hero Monty is going to get 2 goals in Oxford.
  21. It's not that the players not physically make a pass. It's that the team doesn't have enough plays or options through the neutral zone. They often make a single stretch pass cross ice that is easily read by the other team, therefore we either turn it over right before the blue line, or we don't have enough momentum and speed to retrieve the puck once we have to quickly dump it in. We need to start having 2-3 quick passes to come with speed through the neutral zone so that we aren't getting sniffed out after one pass. Some of these more skilled teams that can use their skill and speed often start with a cross stretch pass and quickly follow up with a bump/touch pass toward center ice to the next forward supporting with speed. The coaches need to get some serious reps in practice regarding play through the neutral zone and practice it to the point of cognitive muscle memory so that these guys have options. If they are practicing plays like that, it hasn't shown up in games consistently. Because on the occasion they actually perform 2-3 quick passes back to back to back, thats when they start to actually create some space and chaos on the other end.
  22. $325k in 2023 https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/840402510 If course it would be a jump, but still not a being enough jump to get him to UND. Maybe he goes to Michigan sometime since he’s coached there before, but let’s not put our self on an eternal pedestal. I’d actually love to be proven wrong because him ending up here would be remarkable for our program. Our recruiting of talent is better than what a lot of people on here are saying, but the inability to get that talent to succeed is the massive problem (dead horse beaten)
  23. This idea that CC is some program that is a stepping stone possibly to Nodak is confusing to me. As stated, Mayotte is bringing his program back to prominence and it's not like they lack resources there. Although we are a blue blood, we currently are not a big enough leap up the rung to make him want to jump ship from CC to Nodak. It would be awesome for us if that was in the cards, but it's simply not going to happen.
  24. Pretty sure 2018-19 had the same result of loss and a tie
  25. Fist pumping and celebrating after a meaningless shootout win, are you effing kidding me?
