Here we go again. Denver.....again. If only there would have been a time when you had all the teams together in one place and had cross over games for the so called Eastern and Western divisions of the NCHC to avoid teams having to play each other 6 times in league play. Why on earth we played Denver twice in the Pod will forever remain a mystery to me. Why we play Omaha six times after the Pod takes place is also a mystery. A bus trip to Duluth or SCSU, and Omaha going to Ohio for one of those weekends to get their six points against Miami would have made sense to me as that is a flight for either Duluth or SCSU as well. The same can be said for Denver making a flight to Minneapolis to play Duluth or SCSU and then one of those schools plays ND home or away. End rant...... Well, it is what is is. Duluth got their 18 points against Miami, and now sit atop the standings as they head to Lawson, but UND does have a game in hand. Extremely important weekend against the Pioneers for UND. With SCSU playing Miami this weekend that means a likely 6 points for them, and Omaha hosts a CC team that is all over the place with their performances so that could be six points for Omaha as well. Its going to take good hockey for UND from here on out to win the league. Denver hates us, we hate them. They've got payback in mind after we "intentionally ran their goalie", so buckle your chin straps this weekend boys. There will be penalties, but if we make it into a special teams war then I see a split happening. I think on the weekend a good goal would be to hold Denver to 6 or less power plays, all the while keeping the intensity and physicality up. We could be sitting tied for third place with a bad weekend, and other results not going our way, so hopefully the team plays with some desperation.

Watching Mahomes running for his life on a couch somewhere in the Minneapolis suburbs is Kirk Cousins. Gotta be a slight smirk on his face. Mahomes will likely go onto the HOF but with no offensive line and having to scramble every play no QB can get the job done.

Direct shot to Pettersen's head in a vulnerable spot that knocks his helmet off, and the guy finished the game. Chrona gets hit in the shoulder and braced himself and he ends up with a concussion? The precedent has been set. Thats a game suspension.
-
Exactly what I thought of. Guy skated into Smith and we got a major. I can't remember if they did review back then but that was a tragedy.
-
Ufffff......how is that not a goal.....
-
Penalties weren't coincidental in regulation so as soon as Denver penalty expired they would get the 4-3 advantage.
-
Nice save percentage for the Denver goalie tonight. Omaha gets closer to locking up home ice.
-
Denver doesn't get majors at Magness.
-
Thats huge for UND's hopes to win the league. Well done Andy Murray.
-
Wisconsin all over Goldy. 5-1 and the backup is in. Let's see if they can get to 10.
-
Loved going to state tournaments at the old REA and the entire South side of the rink would be maroon and gold. Seemed like GPR was always the visiting team at those state tournaments.
-
I question if Pat actually knows the rules.
-
Miami goes 0-6 against Duluth this year. SCSU gets them next I think.
-
And a game suspension right? Direct contact to a goalie's head in the crease. Ciskie had plenty to say about Mismash so I'm sure he agrees with the five.
-
Wait a second? A kid would lay on the ice in order to sell the fact a 5 minute major should be called??? Keep this up and they will start reviewing these majors! That'll stop it!!!!

How I see the EDC qualifications going the next few years. 1. RR.....Every year.... 2. GFC.....Every year..... 3. Fargo Davies.....Pretty close to every year. 4. Toss up among the rest, with edge to the Fargo/West Fargo schools. The AA bantam programs of Grand Forks and Fargo are just too good, and the programs that don't play AA bantam will have a hill to climb in high school. I don't think Grafton will win another state championship.

Funny how some teams get majors in Denver and some teams don't...
-
After Duluth beats Miami tomorrow that will make 6 wins against them and 18 league points Duluth got playing Miami this year. Maybe they should of had more cross division games at the POD?
-
Badgers lead Gophers 2-1. And as I type that its now 3-1 badgers.
-
That could be. I've always been amazed that a small community like Grafton could keep producing good hockey players and good teams throughout the years, and the surrounding communities of Park River, Minto, could throw in some good players as well. Used to be you expected to see them playing on Friday night in the semifinals every year, now unfortunately for them its a question of if they even make the tournament.
-
GFC puts up 8 goals in the first period against the Spoilers. At some point I'm going to need an explanation of what is hurting Grafton hockey. When I was reffing a few years back one of their coaches told me politics was to blame, another said it was the numbers. Likely to not make the state tournament this year. Made it one time in the last 8 years?

I think the scales were already tipped towards sweep for Denver this weekend. Saville could save them, but now he's on the road in an arena he isn't as comfortable in against a team that can bury their opportunities. If any of those three players is Ward, Primeau, Weiss or Saville Denver could have a good weekend.

Now the Twins add Colome. That makes the bully.....or possible bully..... 1. Rdgers (L) 2. Duffey (R) 3. Dobnak (R) 4. Robles (R) 5. Stashak (R) 6. Colome (R) 7. Thielbar (L) Taxi Squad: Smeltzer, Thorpe, Alcala. Will be great competition for bullpen spots.

Well.....a UNO sweep would just about dagger Denver, but I'd put a friendly wager with anybody that UNO doesn't go into Denver and sweep. Just doesn't happen at Magness arena. A Denver sweep gives them all sorts of life heading into Valentines weekend at REA....... I'll say a split would be ideal for UND.
-
IMHO that is a disaster of a matchup for UNO if UNO gets home ice. UNO can hang with a team like UND because we are all sorts of dumb with the penalties this year. We are in the top five in average penalty minutes per game in the NCAA, and I believe we lead the NCAA in total penalty minutes with 252. Denver doesn't take a lot of penalties and when the teams got together at Baxter a few weeks ago from what I watched 5x5 Denver was better and Saville bailed Omaha out on Saturday night. UNO going on the road to Denver this week will tell us where they are at. They've only played two games this year in an arena not named Baxter, and they crept by a CC team in the Springs that @Godsmack will tell you should have won Saturday night. Denver Sweeps UNO and they are only three points back.
