A big reason they looked horrible is because of und defense.. give them some credit. offense / OC and kicking game needs to step up… biggest issues of the game were * not running the ball at the 2 yd line.. from my view that 3 down sequence was .. good defense.. uncalled PI.. bad throw.. should have been 3 runs. * missed chipshot FG.. basically an xp * lack of a consistent really short yardage play. I hate 4th and short from the pistol.

I want to make the playoffs if we are 7-5 or 8-4.. schmitfy is building something special. One of the reasons ndsu is better is they get 3+ more games a year and all of the incremental practices.. U.N.D. needs that.

After watching Quincy dominate every short yardage situation for the last 3 years.. I’m baffled by UND not implementing a similar set this year. If we have the QV short yardage plays.. we punch in a touchdown and easily make the 4th and 1. Also.. FG unit.. woof.. not sure if it was the kicker or the holder but good lord.. should have been a win yesterday.. no question.. d is the real deal

way to use the all teams in D1 SOS.. Massey - UND 9th / NDSU 24th see how fun this is? Are u really trying to argue that the citadel / Tennessee st/ SE Missouri / st Thomas are good teams or that any of those are better than K-state and Montana? NDSU is a good team this year.. but they also started the season 4-0. Indiana state beating SDSU at SDSU takes a lot of shine off the NDSU victory at SDSU IMO.

Defense played well except for being a wet paper bag at the end of the 2nd quarter.. offense really struggled and Jerry took some big hits and missed a lot of open receivers. Seems like a tough kid.. not sure how sustainable it is to have him run the ball 10+ times a game. Both teams with 10+ penalties.. USD clearly wanted to turn it into a rock fight and they were successful. All of that being said.. still should have won that game.. played our worst game all year and still should have won.

Stay on task.. question was NDSU SOS.. comment was.. “4 cupcake non conference games” and a tough mvfc schedule like every one else. UND would be 8-1 with NDSU schedule as apparently we still can’t beat USD on the road. NDSU might still be 9-0 with UND schedule but there is no question UNDs schedule is much tougher.

NDSU has an absolute cupcake non conference schedule.. I don’t think you can argue otherwise. Their MVFC schedule is as tough as anybody else’s.. they really caught a break with sdsu qb injured but still destroyed them.

Listening to coach berg and the 360 fellas chat about the change this year in this weeks podcast is enlightening. Highly recommend

Relentless pursuit of continuous improvement

Another big improvement this year has been the continued development of Isaac fruechte.. I’m hoping to see a lot of handing off and letting the North Dakota moving company control the game. Should look like the Saluki game. one of my biggest complaints last year and during the Danny freund era was lack of willingness to do the easy thing. All the trick plays and forcing passes against teams that we would have crushed just by running the ball. I am still looking for the Q short yardage replacement play. if we continue the trend of last week I expect 400 yds rushing and an easy win. If we forget that.. maybe we will have another OT shootout.

Playoff games aren’t counted against the redshirt

Correct.. for all the hate romfo gets from a few.. offense wasn’t even close to the biggest problem last year.. defense was a dumpster fire. While I still believe Jerry or feeney would have been better last year. The improvement in defense and Eric schmidt is what has made this team a top 10 team

5-2 in 2025.. feels quite a bit different than 5-2 in 2024

The defense makes und football watchable this year

Most of the things people are complaining about are just organization and attention to detail.. the intro is as bad as it’s ever been.. I’m a little tired of complaining about it.. go to a und hockey game.. an ndsu football game.. I’m not sure why the Mickey Mouse crap is tolerated at the und football game. I mean it when I say Davies high school does a better job. I’m in full support of the drone / top gun / aviation idea. they have stepped it up a bit on the clothing available for purchase side of things.. but still pretty mediocre.. Coors lites are always cold inside so no complaints there either. the alerus itself is a good place to watch football.. exiting the parking lot is the worst part.. other then that. No real complaints on my side.

first quarter and a half the offense looked brilliant. The offensive play calling was totally bizarre from the 2nd half of 2nd quarter to the start of the 4th quarter. I thought the defense played very well overall and our offense hung them out to dry with bad series after bad series. Fruechte needs to figure some things out. CJ didn’t miss any kicks.. even the fg that didn’t count Still fun to beat a team that SDSU struggled against.

It really was about as bad as it gets. I think Davies high school does a better job coordinating the intro.

If you aren’t excited about UND football after listening to coach schmidty on the undfootball360 podcast.. I don’t know what to tell yah. Guy is dropping some nice knowledge and even answering a couple fan questions. A little insight into the playing time for ziebarth.

You guys would all like to listen to the Hawk talk podcast from yesterday. I listen to it on iHeart but there are prob other apps. Schmidty talked a ton about how great Jerry has been in spring and fall camp and then to this point in the year. He mentioned JTJ as the backup and didn’t bring up QB3 one time. I really enjoyed listening to him break down the defensive strategy. Pretty cool.

What the data above really shows is that our offense has not been the problem and it looks like it’s on track to be even better this year. If Schmitty can keep the defense rolling we have a real chance.

My guess is you are both missing the point right now.. if @jdub27 thinks our kicking has been decent then you need to roll in fgs as well as xp.. FG has been terrible this year. Clearly over the last 3 years xp has been solid. CJ was quite decent last year. I thought he would be better this year.. he hasn’t been. for @SIOUXFAN97 to say the special teams sucks.. at least this year the data doesn’t come close to bearing that out. Punting has been good/great.. punt blocs have been awesome.. kickoffs have been good.. but the kicker has struggled. personally I’m just hoping the kicking game improves to the point that I can beat the rush to the coors lite sales guy instead of holding my breath and hoping.

Who are the duckies and bunnies that you are claiming are sticking up or making excuses for our kicker?
