I have a fair amount of agreement with the perspective that the boosters/donors need to step up. Where I believe there is a clear disconnect is the most recent extension. There were two years remaining on his contract.. there was no need for an extension. Why should the boosters/donors step up when chaves is burning money in the middle of the room. i still picture bubba walking into chaves office last spring coming up with his laundry list of excuses expecting to be fired or put on double secret probation and instead chaves hands him an two year extension with no update to severance. I’m sure bubba just about broke his arm looking for a pen to sign on the dotted line.

Generally agree.. I also think most people don’t stand in front of an interviewer telling that person and community how much they love their job and company. And I actually do think bubba really loves UND football and I think he is embarrassed at being the 4th best team in the dakotas and it not being particularly close. In reality this one is totally on the AD.. the last extension was totally unnecessary and incompetent.

After the last 4 weeks bubba has to know the game has passed him by. If he has any remaining pride and love for UND football, as he says he does, he will retire. In the previous years he could always argue that the team showed promise.. this year the xDSUs really embarrassed us.. if u watched the usd game and didn’t just look at the final score u know that game was a killing.. and we lost to terrible teams on the road.

This is why this is a rediculous discussion.. I’m not sticking up for Simon… I wanted to see the other guys.. our defense is absolutely brutal.. like really really bad.. we gave up 28.. 24.. 35.. 41.. 35.. to the set of powerhouse teams like Idaho state.. Murray state.. San Diego.. Youngstown.. Indiana state.. we had 21 in the first half on decent play.. our defense was a wet paper bag

As much as I would like to have seen a different QB this year.. Simon wasn’t even in the top 10 of things that were wrong with this team. Offense usually did enough.. bubba and the defense were absolutely brutal… when was the last time we had a defense that you thought was even mediocre?

This game was a microcosm of bubbas entire UND career.. and the last 90 sec of the 1st half were even better 1) a soft as butter defense.. complete inability to stop anything resembling a run.. and I guess the pass as well.. 2) a couple of terrible special teams plays.. terrible kickoff.. dumbest fake punt ( everyone knew it was a fake.. just run your regular offense). Poor timeout usage 3) zero time for your backup qb even when the game was out of reach. It’s almost like they want the backups to leave.. it’s so dumb I just lose my mind. Anyone still have a problem with feeney leaving? 4) offense isn’t terrible.. but certainly not good. If the defense was even mediocre we would win games. There are issues with the offense but the defense is absolutely brutal. Offense looks ok against prevent defenses. Wracks up lots of bs yds Today is no different.. the team does enough to keep it exciting.. but loses due to a whole bunch of dumb stuff and poor coaching and terrible defense.. I mean we almost recovered a 2nd onside kick to have a shot at winning.. this is bubba ball. if they fire Joel and keep bubba it would be the most und football thing ever.

Firing the DC and keeping bubba would be about as clueless a move as an AD could make.

I do not understand the idea of firing the DC and not the HC.. the DC is running bubbas defensive system.. the last DC running the system also stunk.. and Schmidt certainly struggled as well depending on the year.. they brought in dosch to help and the defense still stinks.. replacing the DC and not blaming the HC/system/etc is like tying your shoe on an amputated leg to stop from tripping.

I find the lack of development time in games for our backups totally bizarre.. down by 31.. 6mins to go.. lets still roll out all the starters.. it’s just dumb

How do we not have our backups in? This is terrible.. anyone wonder why feeney left?

Judging by the difference in bodies and talent level on the field today.. we have a lot of work to do.. maybe it’s just scheme but it seems like more then that.

The previous extension was bad.. the extension last year for no reason without significantly changing the buyout is malpractice.. I still want to see that negotiation.. bubba walks into Chaves office expecting to be fired.. Chaves suprises him and the fan base with an extension.

Question is will they even call a pass play.. with our run defense and their rushing attack I could see a repeat of the luepke ndsu game a few years back. hopefully the defense plays with a little pride.

Whomever took these pictures clearly has no respect for bubba and is in the room.. if this is the current culture of the team, change is needed sooner rather than later. the extension continues to look terrible in hindsight.. but go back to the extension thread from last year.. it looked terrible then. This is currently a never ending cycle of mediocrity.

It was nice to see all groups O/D/ST on the team contributing to the loss.. fumbles.. interceptions for TDs.. dropped punts.. sacks.. typical crap defense.. some of the worst tackling I have seen.. ending the game on 2 sacks.. what a team effort on the loss.. Isaiah was awesome.. the rest of them really struggled. This is the definition of a team that can’t win on the road.. whether it’s lack of preparation or they are just in their own heads.. who knows. It really is hard to watch. Constantly just waiting for them to screw up. Over and over had the chance to win.. just kept screwing it up. should have been an easy game.. but we spotted them 14 pts and then didn’t make the easy plays.. really hard to watch.

depends on who the two remaining wins are.. wins against SD and/or SDSU would be very nice on the resume and so then have a quality win against Montana and one of the SD teams. I happen to believe we will pick off one of the SD teams based on history.

In true UND football fashion.. we will actually lose to ISUb this weekend.. then beat both SDSU and USD at home and then piss it all away against ISUr.

If that somehow turned into a completed pass I assume our OL would have been flagged for being ineligible downfield anyway. Still not sure what that guy was doing

I dont have a problem with him being considered although not sure he would be a first pick. A year+ at SDSU makes him more qualified.. offense wasn't the problem when he was here either although I have preferred Fruechte's play calling. Somehow they need to bring in somebody that can actually fix the defense while keeping it up on the offensive side.

Remember if one of the coordinators leaves they will have to give bubba another extension or they can’t recruit another assistant coach or any players without bubba having at least two more years on his contract. there are so many reasons given to keep extending bubba.. I have no hope he will ever be gone outside of direct retirement.. I’m sure there is a top 10 list of excuses to keep extending bubba somewhere. I would think a defensive specialist like bubba would fire himself after having a terrible defense year after year. also to be clear I’m not advocating for bubbas replacement in the middle of the season and I still hope we somehow catch lightning in the bottle and make a playoff run.

If this was the actual plan.. then there is even more reason to have romfo in the game. Q is a great short yardage back.. he is not shifty or fast.. he is a power guy.

what is probably the most annoying to me is that we are here nitpicking a couple questionable calls on the offensive side.. where the defense laid another monster egg on the road. If the defense was even mediocre yesterday we win that game by 2+ TD's

You guys are correct.. I was watching low res on my phone.

He was lined up as the TE.. not left tackle. And he clearly went out for a pass. whether he reported or not I have no idea.. he is either the most lost OL player in history or an actual eligible receiver.
