Coach Paul Sather is not the problem... UND decided to enter the D1 Basketball sports horizon 350 Schools, then they need to invest into it. We have inadequate and dated facilities compared to other D1 institutions, I'm not even sure we can compete with our pier Schools like NDSU, SDSU, USD, OR in the Summit, and definitely not against the likes of Creighton, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin. We need Locker Rooms, Weight Rooms, Study Areas, Film and Media Rooms, Entertainment Areas and more... Our Collective Coaches Salary and Support Staff Budget is most likely under 500,000. D1 Hockey is a regional sport at best with only 60+ Schools participating, we have a State of the Art Arena, Locker Rooms, Training Areas, Film, Media, Entertainment Rooms, Kitchen for meals, Study Areas, Weight Room, Practice ice and more... Our Collective Coaches Salary and Support Staff Budget is probably over 1.5 million dollars +... Bottom line is improve the areas that need improvement, more kids will come, they will stay, we will win. Need to invest in the program to grow it, If Hockey never had Mr. Engelstad to invest starting back in the 80"s our program would never have reach the National Acclaim and heights it has. We will never be a Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, but with some added investment by fans, alumni, UND it can be a solid Mid Major type Institution.

Fan upgrades are one thing. Those are nice but we need players! Our facilities for players need to be drastically improved if you want better talent. Example would be UND Hockey, we have tradition coaching and history, but if we didn’t have the Ralph? The players amenities, locker rooms, lounge, media film room, study rooms, kitchen ect. … in conjunction with the arena, and fans help draw the best D1 players in the country to UND.

My kitchen is bigger then the Betty locker rooms! Very poor for student study areas, weight rooms, media rooms ect… Betty was built as fast as they could for a asset in time for the World Juniors Hockey, it’s biggest asset was it was tied to the Ralph and Olympic Ice. You want better players, need to pay more money for better facilities, put money into your program and they will come. Just my opinion

I too would be against double headers, i do not believe that is the answer. I agree that Mirror Scheduling seems lazy, an easy way out. As a Basketball Fan, I enjoy watching or supporting both programs, Rivals or not. The Mirror schedule makes this really difficult when they will always play the same nights, same times, different locations. UND wants to build it's programs back to where they were 20 years ago in the D2 era, they need to find a way to promote, advertise and attract fans not cut your fan base in half. I currently see very little Student promotions going on? The scheduling of our main rival during Xmas break is also very poor. No Band, No Cher Team, No Students? If we want to act like we are D1, then do it. Can you imagine UNC vs Duke with none of those (Band, Cheer, Students) it would never happen. I now know this is the Summit Force Fed situation, but to grow our programs, we need to try and change. We need better.

IMO, Not a great way to help expand your fan base, I checked, Northern Sun, Big East, MVC, they do not. Is this mirror scheduling popular? To me it is not good.

Another case in point on scheduling, we schedule our biggest rival of the year during Christmas break? No Band, No Cheer Team, No Students? Great thinking by Summit, UND or whoever is in charge. Do not understand.

Sorry if this has been discussed, I have not seen it. Can anyone explain to me who is responsible for the MBB and WBB conference schedule? Is it the Summit league, or the Institutions themselves? When looking I see that we have Home Women's game Wednesday vs NDSU, and Men's away game vs NDSU in Fargo same day, same time. This continues through out most of the conference games for Summit Schools. My observation is you are penalizing the fans base that are Basketball Fans, you need to choose Men or Women. How can I watch the Men's game on Midco or roadtrip, if I'm sitting at the Women's game at the Betty? We use to have doubleheaders? This poor scheduling seems to be league wide. Just wondering if anyone knows why? I know there are options, I can record, watch or follow on my hand held phone ect... but just seems to be not a good way to boost attendance or fan support.

It is with a heavy heart and deep saddest, I report that we have lost a giant in Ross Brennan from our UND Football Family. Gone too soon, thoughts and prayers to his Coaches, Teammates, Family and Friends.

Unless somebody finds the end of a rainbow pot of gold. Saul Philips, Randall Herbst, Paul Sather would all be affordable candidates. Maybe Chaves has a guy in mind, who knows, but ND is a hard school to recruit to for hoops.

Paul Sather from Northern State maybe the Best Coach in our area, and since we are not going to pay more then 200,000 we will get what we can afford.

Here is a question. If UND had complete fiscal responsibility for the last 18 years of the REA facilities, tickets, concessions, apparel, where would we be?

Agreed on some points, but a leader also needs to understand the difference between leading and dictating. President Kennedy was also looking for a $50,000 year bartender/party host for his wife while UND was cutting programs and staff. My understanding is the contract between UND and REA is very one sided, takes care of Men's Hockey at REA 1st and foremost. will be interesting if that can change before 2030, not sure this President has the skills necessary to do it.

Chaves May have indeed been the best candidate.... I’m saddened by the way this institution seems to devalue a person who is educated at UND or from ND. Where would we be without Starcher, Clifford, Odegard, Bruce Smith, Davies, Burdick, Wrigley, Schaefer and more? In Athletics Roebuck, Ziegler, Lennon, Schweigert, Hakstol, Berry, Engelstad, Stromberg, Gasparini , Murphy, and more.... This coming from me, a guy with only a HS Education out of Colorado...#sad Should I advise my grandkids to be educated elsewhere if you ever want a chance at a meaningful job at UND.....
