NCAA Division 1 Men's Ice Hockey Regional Site Selections Announce
hockey1 replied to Esoxpirate's topic in Men's Hockey
There may have been multiple bids to host the regional BUT if Minnesota's bid was the highest that is usually what determines it. Also, was it the Xcel or University of Minnesota that put the bid in since the regional is at the Xcel, . -

I agree everyone has their opinion and I respect that. In regards to the Gophers hosting back to back regionals do we know who else put a bid in? The regionals are based on a bidding process and if nobody else put a bid in except the Gophers what is the NCAA going to do. -

The Pepsi Center is a wonderfull arena and Denver could accomodate the Final Five. The question is will enough fans attend, since majority of the teams fan bases are over 900 miles away. Besides in your first response you were concerned about the cost of you driving to the cities for the Final Five. With it in Denver your expenses would be alot higher ( I am assuming you live in the GF area). -

Like I said before smaller arena's will have to charge alot more for tickets to maximize ticket revenue than having it at a larger arena. The Xcel and Pepsi Center seat 18,000 whereas most other arena's are less than 12,000 so thats atleast 6,000 less paying customers. Thats alot of money each school will miss out on unless they charge more. -

Besides the cities mentioned, who do you think can accomodate the Final Five that has an arena large enough? -

The problem with most cities hosting the Final Five is that they do not have an arena with the capacity that St.Paul, Denver, Milwaukee or Madison have. These cities have arenas that have atleast 15,000 seats to hold the event, and since every school splits the revenue I don't think they would want to give that up. You could have it in a smaller capacity arena like the Ralph or CC's arena, etc but you would have to charge alot more more tickets to make up for the revenue you would lose by not having it in a large arena. -

I maybe wrong here but isn't hosting a regional based on a bidding process? If so did UND put a bid in? -

Not to be a jerk here but l it's your choice to chuck out the gas and hotel money for the weekend. As for if Gopher players have to stay in a hotel when they play at the X the answer is yes. All teams stay at either the St. Paul hotel or the Crown Plaza. Where do you think they should host the Final five or regionals? -
I lived in North Dakota for 25 years and their fans (Sioux fans, Bison fans) are no differnt than any other fan base in supporting their teams. When their teams do well they support the hell out of them (going to the games, verbally supporting, etc) but if they have a few down years they stop going to the games and rip on their teams verbally. I know Grand Forks is smaller than the Twin Cities but where were these loyal Sioux fans in the mid nineties when the Sioux hockey team was struggling. They were getting maybe 3,000 people attending their games, anybody attending these games can verify this. Since then the Sioux has had success and this same fan base that abandoned them have returned to support them. This is classic bandwagon fans just like evry other fan base, including Minnesota fans.
-
Like I said, in attending games yes, but complaining about their team their is no difference.
-
Your right you can't argue about their fans attending their home games but they bitch and complain about their team when things are not going well just like every other fan base. Go to a packer bar after several losses or listen to a fanline on the radio and its incredible with the negativity.
-
Remember you are the one who agreed with one of Sioux-cia's'descriptions of a fair weather fan ( a fan who bitches about their team when they are down) and you just stated that Bronco fans were complaining about their team. For the record, I do agree that Minnesota fans are fair weather but they are no different than any other fan base, in my opinion.
-
You have to admit alot of topics start out Sioux related but turn into a Gopher thread. Some Sioux posters here even complain about it.
-
When you say the Bronco fans were mad I'm assuming they were complaining about their team, right?
-
7>5, just out of curiousity, what do you consider a fair weather fan to be?
-
What does University of Minnymystery stand for? Just curious

Could you please show me ( a link ) where a player publically stated that they did not try to win a game. I know Lucia said that the third place game at the final 5 is not important ( which as a paying fan I disagree with ) but where did he say that he did not try to win the game.
-
So, are you saying that The Sioux coaches or players have never said publically that " We did not come out to play or our heads were not in the game, etc". Coaches, players (including Gopher and Sioux coaches and players ) and have said that after a loss.
-
"They" as in ALL seven of them were talking about it and two of the seven were sioux fans
-
Like I said, I agree in PLAYOFF history it is the greatest upset but IMO not in all college hockey history. A few years ago an unranked Michigan Tech team played #1 Wisconsin and beat them in Madison. Thats more impressive than a #16 ranked team beating a #2 (Minnesota was #2 not #1). I just think a unranked team beating a #1 ranked team is more of an upset in regular season or playoffs.(IMO).
-
First of all I could care less if Sioux fans want to spend their own money on Holy Cross Jerseys or Gopher fans spending their own money on BC jerseys. Although if I had an extra $150 laying around I would spend it on my team I follow. My question is to Siouxman, why is the Holy Cross win the greatest upset in NCAA college hockey history. I agree it is the greatest upset in NCAA PLAYOFF history but I don't think in all of college hockey history.

Siouxguy, For a guy who rips on the Twin Cities as much as you do, I don't see you complain about the paycheck you get while working IN the cities.
-
Siouxguy, What does the enrollment of a school have to do with anything? Its not like this is high school where you pick your guys from enrollment of the school. Every school recruits there players from everywhere not just from school boundaries.
