What is "the thing" to do? Man, when I was in college, football hockey, and even basketball were must sees. Now, not so much....well, we still have a full student section for hockey. I also sound like an old bastard I guess. It is a little worrysome that the Bison students dont' show when they are in a conference and battling for a playoff spot. I hope our students show when UND is in the same situation in a few years.

No kidding. One had doublemint gum on it, that was bizzare. I was trying to figure the phrases on the signs like it was that one gameshow... All I could come up with was: Need Big Sky, need meaningful games, need better coaching decisions, need 100% effort from players. Seriously though, I think we just let er rip with all young guys these last 2 weeks, likely lose both games, but get those guys bigtime road experience. I say go with Hendrickson, and have him and the 2 redshirt freshman Comes and Demler battle it out in spring ball and fall practice for the starting spot next year.

I was unaware of that stat. I have heard Fontaine, Connelly Connelly like they are Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe. Sick of it. That said, this UMD team still didn't impress me I guess. I really do feel UND is the better team, yet we are looking at a 2 point weekend. Aaron Dell impressed me this weekend, was solid.

Back from the game. That non-call at the end when Malone (I believe) got dumped was horrible. Duluth won tonight, but man, I really do believe the Sioux are the better team. Duluth reminds me of a team like AA or Michigan Tech at times, they wait, wait, wait, and jump on mistakes. That top line is good, but didn't blow me away, they got the goals tonight, but were kept in check for most of the weekend. Like someone said, UMD is a 1-line team, shut that line down, they aren't more than average. That said, they found a way to get a road split, key for a top 6 finish in this league. It sucked to see Genoway pinch at the end and cost us the 2 on 1.

No "duckies and bunnies" after this one. All I can say is "OOOFFFFFF" Ouch.

1st loss for Duluth, I thought UND played a very good game tonight against a very good team. I'm headed to bed, long day ahead tomorrow with UND FOOTBALL, then UND HOCKEY! I hope to find time to get a McRib sometime tomorrow too. Peace out Sioux fans!

With UND as the single Dakota Big Sky school -

Regarding this talk about fans in Grand Forks/and the region traveling to games: The average fan does not make road trips unless it is a very special rivarly game, or a tournament/playoff type game. This includes back in the day, when we played NDSU, St Cloud, and other "close" games. It does not matter if it is a couple hour drive, or couple hour flight. It doesn't matter if it is the NCC, the Great West, the Summit, or the Big Sky. Nothing is really going to change. What WILL change is the number of games UND alums and fans across the country can make. Playing a Big Sky Conference(aka: meaningful) game near alumni bases such as Denver and Seattle will be great for those alums who make it to maybe 1 game a year in Grand Forks if they are lucky. As Grand Forks or regional UND fans, we are lucky enough to be able to attend just about any home game we want. Road games are fun, but just not practical for most. If one has the free time and money, I'd much rather make a trip to some of the Big Sky road destinations than the Summit/MVFC options, but that is just me. . -
Ya, I am not a basketball guy, so I didn't know much about the details on teams in the 2 leagues. I agree, those names are pretty nasty ones, and remind me of NJIT, Chicago State, Houston Baptist, etc that are now in the Great West...exactly what we want to avoid.

Here are the first things that come to mind when I think of our real future rivals vs. our parallel universe future rivals: Big Sky Football Eastern Washington-great program, red turf, excited Montana-great program, get 30K per game, very excited Montana St.-"Bobcats", "other" Montana team, don't know much about them, saw them play against UMN one year, kind of excited Idaho St.-beat em, they backed out of Potato Bowl, easy win, not too excited Northern Colorado-former rival, seem to have struggled since moving up, should beat em regularly, a little excited Portland St.-Don't know much, big metro area? not real excited Weber St.-good at basketball, don't know about their football team, not real excited Northern Arizona-one would think "road trip", but I believe they are in a cool mountain climate, with forests as they are the Lumberjacks, not real excited Sacramento St.-Winless Wanless is AD, don't know much, not real excited Southern Utah-Up and coming program, keep up our "rivarly", excited Cal Poly-Great program, great potential road trip, "keep up our rivalry", excited UC Davis-Great program, great potential road trip, "keep up our rivalry", excited MVFC NDSU-would love to still play them, I think we will every other year USD-negative thoughts about USD, horrible facilities, not sure I want to see UND play them anymore in non-conference action Northern Iowa-great program, would love to play them every year Western Illinois-"leathernecks", don't know anything about them, not playing them is fine with me Indiana State-bad team, not playing them is fine with me Missouri State-don't know much, their name sounds like Mizzou, but then you realize they are FCS and not FBS South Dakota State-would love to play them every year Illinois State-are they the "redbirds"? not playing them is fine with me Southern Illinois-Great program, facilities, would love to play them (no, not because of Dale Lennon!) Youngstown State-"Penguins!", have name recognition from DII days, would like to play them Like I said, these are just some thoughts on the 2 conferences, I think they are pretty similar.

I love it! Can I put that in my signature line?

I was at the game, will be at hockey tonight, was at hockey last night. No excuse for students not to show up. Great win by the Sioux, I am really excited to be in the Big Sky. I was looking at the Great West banner at the Alerus, and had a really happy feeling that it will be gone soon, and replaced by a Big Sky banner. Exciting times ahead for UND football.

Denver is staying at Canad Inn, just an FYI for anyone interested.

Well said. Jake Landry is a D2 QB that overachieved at times at the FCS level, and struggled mightily at other times, as you alluded to. I agree that is was most frustrating seeing the missed short "percentage" passes to the flat, etc. His decisions as a senior weren't the best, but I think he was trying to do it all himself at times, kind of Brett Favre-esque, when he should have thrown the ball away. Tough way to end a career for sure.
-
Ya, see my edit above. My bad, my bad. So Goska will be the man, this year, and next.
-
Wait a minute, do Comes and Demler have shirts on? I thought last year was their redshirt season. Of course you can't play them if they are redshirting.... EDIT: Yeah, my bad, I must have been too excited. I just saw this is their first year in the program. With all the recruiting news you hear about a year or more before they get to UND, seems like they have been here for a long time. So now, Goska is the man for the rest of the year I guess.
-
Landry has seen his last snap as a UND QB. He is out for season with a knee injury. Go to Lamar thread to discuss.
-
Just saw on Tom Miller's Twitter that Jake Landry is done for the year (last 4 games) with a knee injury. Hmm. Hopefully, Muss puts in Chris Comes or Trey Demler to start getting some experience. If they struggle, I suppose Goska could play.
-
That is cool I guess....but FCS can be picked up by everyone in the state fairly easy, so it could be said the Sioux are on statewide as well. PLUS, and this is huge, our games don't prevent fans of FBS football from seeing their favorite squads play on national NBC broadcasts. I have heard plenty of complaints about "the damn bison game is on so I can't watch the matchup of _____________ vs. _____________"
-
I am so excited to see what Demler and/or Comes can do next year.
-
This is the same old stuff we always see on here. Remember, it is how we come out of the transition that counts.
-
Absolutely. I just think some players get the "Joe Mauer" treatment because of their hometown. It goes both ways, people who are calling for a different QB need to remember what you have just said. People who defend the "local boy" need to be fair and balanced and admit when mistakes are made.
-
Oh, I agree with that for sure. I guess I am hoping one of the young guys can step in, Chris Comes maybe? Goska is NOT the answer either.
-
I am proud of the way the team played. That said, I will be so happy when our hometown QB is no longer eligible and we can get someone else in next year. He would have made a great D2 QB.
-
Great performance by the D, shame this ended in a loss.
