Same with hotels. If these developers are building them in this national economy, they must be feasible.
-
Or just the first period when they build up an insurmountable lead on us...
-
You sir, understand the "University environment", and are exactly right.
-
Ha. What if we are all wrong, and there is a miracle that occurs at the meeting? One way or another, we will have a FINAL answer after the meeting, which I am happy about.
-
Ha.

That could very well be what he heard. It would be very hard to turn that down. College hockey is at a tremendous disadvantage when it comes to top talent. I don't blame the kid, but the system. Th NHL is in bed with Major Juniors. College Hockey Inc., fix this! (Somehow)
-
I was going to post the same thing. UND has lost an unproven but talented guy, but UW is losing a proven leader and offensive dynamo. (Smith has earned the right to move up, and isn't a huge surprise from what I have seen)
-
Wow, big blow to UND. I would like to hear the story behind this. I had a bad feeling about Miller when I watched him play against UND last season. I wish MacWilliam would have taught him a lesson now like he should have. Oh well, maybe it was a Dylen Olson situation where he would have left school midway anyway due to academics and the promise of a huge signing bonus.
-
Ha! I told him the same thing earlier in the thread!

For me, it is a big TBD. It seems like the Big Ten schools did what would be best for them, and UND and the other schools are doing what is best for them. I don't think anyone knows what the ripple effects will be, but stay tuned, as things could change tomorrow! I really do hope that traditional rivalries are kept alive with a series every year. The powers that be that handle scheduling need to just take a few deep breaths, enjoy the next few weeks, THEN work on scheduling. I would hate for this to turn into a situation like UND and NDSU have now where they are just starting to talk to each other again and play each other.
-
Whenever I travel to games in St Paul or Minneapolis, wearing Sioux gear, or getting carded for a beer with my ND license and I get a snide: "North Dakooota!" comment. I always make sure to let them know they are lucky to have us North Dakotans stimulating their economy! They usually half-heartedly agree.
-
If those games were completely eliminated, yes, I would miss traveling to St Cloud, Mankato, and Bemidji. However, I believe those schools will remain on the schedule, just won't see em as often. I can live with that.

Dude, have you ever been to some of the suburbs? I was at the Players Club in Forest Lake once, and thought the Fox Racing hat wearing hillbillies were going to kick my ass for being an out of towner! Just quit with the Twin Cities Sophisticated vs Grand Forks Hick argument. It simply doesn't work.

This is awesome! Not only is my old FAVORITE team back in the Winnipeg Jets, now they have a UND player on their roster! Any old timers remember some former sioux that played for the Jets? Phil Sykes and Russ Romaniuk come to mind, also Dave Christian. GO JETS!

Excellent post.

What needs to happen? UND has to have one question answered by the Big Sky and Fullerton. That question: "Will UND be admitted to the league, with no problems whatsoever, if the NCAA deems UND 'okay' as they have with Florida State, Utah, etc. ?" If their answer is "no", UND must retire the name. Some people will say: "Screw the Big Sky", as they have said "Screw the Summit League" in the past, that is fine, but what are our options? If the Big Sky doesn't allow UND in, even with NCAA approval, there are no other leagues that will take UND in. Life as an independent will be worse than the last few years of Great West conference hell. If UND could find another conference with a move up to the BCS level in football (watered down WAC?), maybe that is the answer, but as we all know, that move up is likely a pipedream at this point. I should also say, the odds that the NCAA will budge are slim to none. President Kelley has done us no favors, as we have seen with his email to the NCAA. I am trusting him less and less as the information keeps coming out, but as I have said before, people like Kelley are a dime a dozen in the academic world. If he goes, a similar person will be imported into ND, and take over his role.

Pretty cool deal, playing for your favorite squad, where your dad helped hoist cups, on a young team that should be very good in the near future...

This whole situation SUCKS. As a lifelong Sioux fan, I feared the day that we would be having these types of discussions. I believe there are 2 separate issues: 1-The Fighting Sioux name and its effect on the athletic program 2-President Kelley, and whether or not he has been honest with us Issue #1: it seems clear that the name is going to set the athletic department back significantly. There are too many loud "anti-nicknamers" out there who will keep making this an issue. In the past, it was about saying that the nickname was racist. Votes on the reservation and general opinion have shown that the nickname is liked by the majority of American Indians, and non-American Indians. Now, the people who want to get rid of the name have changed their tune, they say that the name will hurt our athletic programs, and certain loud "anti-nicknamers" (see U of MN, U of Iowa), have made this a reality. The number of "anti-nicknamers' are low, but unfortunately, many seem to be in high places, making important decisions. Issue #2- President Kelley is your typical college president. Did he lie to us? I would put a good deal of money down that he did. I don't trust the guy at all, that is my personal opinion. You see, President Kelley is another "anti-nicknamer", just like the leaders at the U of MN and NCAA. If you terminate Kelley today, you will just get another liberal minded person to assume his role. Anyone who is familiar with the university environment knows what it takes to be a leader, it is much different than other fields where common sense is more prevalent. The final outcome on this one is becoming pretty clear. The game is almost over, it is 5-3 with 30 seconds to go, we have our goalie pulled.... This sucks.

+1 for you. I agree, this is a horrible thing. Anyone who is a UND employee is not safe. That is the precedent that has been set. This is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E for employee morale, you can bust your butt and be one of the best, work at UND for over 30 years, and could get fired on the spot tomorrow! I simply cannot believe that this happened here, at UND. President Kelley is absolutely accountable for something like this. This was no 1st year administrative assistant being let go, it was someone who is very high up at UND, with no apparent reason to be fired. I must also say I don't know Alice Hoffert, but I know countless people just like her who have dedicated their lives to UND and the service of others. Who will get fired next.....?

Like thyme or rosemary? How could he not! They add so much to your favorite dish!

I would agree with you on not caring what fans think, what we write on message boards and such, but what a contrast it will be for him if he plays for the NYI. One difference, he will be playing in front of less fans than he did at the Ralph, as the Islanders ranked dead last in the NHL with an average of 11,059/game (ESPN.com). UND had 11,756 (collegehockeynews.com). Stats are for the 2010-11 season.
-
Reading some of the comments after that article, and some on other boards, like HF, Jason is in a really tough situation. The NYI fans are already hating on the guy, he will be in a hole immediately, in a tough city to play pro sports. What a change it will be from Grand Forks, where he was a king, and loved by all. Oh Jason, why didn't you just stay in college for one more year, have the time of your life, and then head to the Isles? I remember being a junior and senior in college, I couldn't wait to start in the "real world", make lots of money, etc. Well, now I've been in that world for some time, and look back at college as the best years of my life. You don't realize it at the time, but you really have no meaningful responsibilities. Sure, you have to get up and go to class, study, take tests, but that is nothing compared to job stress, kids, mortgage, metabolism slowing down, etc. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy now, but kids reading this: treasure your time in HS and College!

I heard Luke Bryan tore it up!

This is a time to bring up how dangerous pills and booze can be. Also, mixing medications can be deadly too. I have family members and friends who will take NyQuil, and would also take 2 maximum strength Tylenol, not knowing that Nyquil already contained a hefty dose of acetominophen, which they didn't know was the same as Tylenol or just didn't read the label. I scolded them and told them not to do it again. 1. Don't take drugs with alcohol 2. Look at the labels on your cold meds, etc, and make sure you aren't overdosing 3. Spread the word to your family and friends

I've worked for Mayo, not for Sanford. Mayo is world class. I heard something yesterday from Sanford that congratulated Altru for partnering with one of Sanford's "peers" in Mayo. Mayo shot back that both Altru and Mayo have been around longer than Sanford has been in existence. Pretty funny stuff. This has to help with Altru's image, which is shaky around here.
