I posted in the SH feed. Yes they loaded the box to stop the run. As you said, strategy was to make the freshman beat them. SH had at least one more player in the box for a good part of the game. Hard to run when out numbered.

As a former Offensive Lineman, it is hard to watch us not be able to run the football. To me, it's an attitude thing and you want to wear teams down with a road grader mentality. But, as I watched more, and started counting the guys in the box, SH consistently had more guys in the box than we could block. Take the picture below, yes, I know it's a red zone scenario, but they have 7 in the box. Blocking with only 5 lineman is not a recipe for success. I'm thinking that SH wasn't going to let our running game beat them, they wanted a freshman qb to beat them... and he did! Good win for the guys. Something to build on for next game. First, get healthy!

I get that everyone has their opinion to how the season is going to shake out, what I don't get is all the "negative nellies" that come on and say how bad it's going to be. Let's see how it plays out. Reminds me of the movie Major League where no one is interested, then when things are going well, let's all jump on the wagon and clap for joy and tell everyone how we "always" believed. How about we get solidly behind this team and raise our expectations and support. I know that things have been rocky in the past, but let's all hope for change this year and that Bubba and the team can show us/give us reason to be all in!

I understand how the NCAA drug testing works. Been a part of it. I was wondering about NDSU's internal testing. Also, just because it's a random 18, doesn't mean that any starters will get pulled. Seen that first hand. We had 1 started tested in the tests I was a part of.
-
That all depends on who is taking the test in the lockerroom. Let's get 20 young freshman to test on a weekly basis. Make sure not to test anyone on the two deep roster.... Not saying this happened, but I can bet it has happened in many football programs throughout the nation.

"While spring games are always heavily controlled, the Jacks will be especially careful this time, as the spring season was marked by several injuries of varying degrees of seriousness." From the SDSU article. So why beat each other up? Heavily controlled will mean quick whistles and very little contact. Extremely controlled. Can get the same from a practice type scenario. Practice usually includes some type of 11 on 11 anyway. Better to work on fundamentals at this point?

Attended Saturday and was fun to watch the two minute drill and O vs D on the field. A couple of things really stood out. #1 the green bleachers really popped and look great! Really adds to the HPC. Figure they can seat 800-1000 people there now. #2 - the offense and the plays that they were running. Multiple sets where the QB was in the "gun" formation. Many throws deep down the sideline and down the middle. Just happy to see some new looks and wrinkles to the offense. The offense was attacking the D downfield. #3 - the enthusiasm from the OC! Danny has always been a positive/enthusiastic guy. The players seemed to feed off his excitement and enthusiasm. I know that this is his first rodeo at calling plays, but I think that the players will want to play his style of offense and will work hard to make it work.

Don't think that they will use 4 travel spots on kickers next year. Only get a limited amount to travel with. Hopefully 2 of them can prove themselves worthy of the job.
-
Sure, cause the testing is "random". I've been part of a NCAA Football drug test. They randomly selected 10 players. 7 redshirt freshman, 1 kicker, and 2 non-starters. Good stuff....

Player suspended for failing drug test leading into National Title game = nothing..... Ask the player if it meant nothing! No competitive difference and no way harmed player, then why wasn't it reported? Again, that's the question...… Sounds like a "nothing to see here, move along people.." attitude.
-
That's the question we all are asking..... Did he "choose" to withhold information? Or was he told to not let it out? And if told not to, by whom?
-
Little different in the hockey reporter reporting about general conversations in the locker room and on the bus as opposed to failing a drug test

So, if someone is capable from within the program, (or any other business) isn't it logical to promote from within? Let's take a look at Danny for a second. Great enthusiasm, players like him (may play harder for him), relates well to players, his position group has been one of the better groups performance wise, great recruiter, and loves UND and GF. I get that "new blood" would be fine too, but maybe Danny has some new ideas to bring to the table? I wouldn't be surprised if new blood is hired, but wouldn't feel bad about Danny getting a shot at it.

Any chance to pull Brooks Bollinger into the mix for OC and QB coach? Brooks used to hang around Memorial Stadium with his Dad when he coached. Would have some ties to UND and would/should be an improved to the OC job?

Why do we have to punt the ball down the middle? Is our punter not able to angle their punts? A 60 yard punt with a 20 yard return = net of 40 yards. Why not angle the punt to the sideline and out of bounds at 40 yards? Out of bounds = no chance of a return for a touchdown. Wouldn't that make more sense?
-
My thoughts exactly! Played too much music...Seemed like between every play. Played especially long while our offense was getting ready to snap the ball. Was it too loud to make calls on the offensive line? How about too loud to make an audible? Crank it up when they opposing team has the ball!

Holm's play reminded me of Mooney. The other play reminded me of Kelly Howe catching a guy from behind in SD, saving a touchdown.
-
So, losing a local ND kid with talent, who has significantly contributed to the program, was a great role model for other ND kids, isn't a problem? It is our own little world, but shouldn't be losing good local talent. Drama starts at the top....

With the transfer, all I will say is that the you need to look at the coach and treatment of his players.
