  1. Hope Roche gets a shot; think he would be up with several other teams. Not good new on Bombadir's concussion.
  2. He will not doubt be gone to Canadian major juniors before he completes high school. If he does change his mind and consider college, he's in the right place for the Sioux to have a shot at getting him.
  3. Remember you brought the graphic here
  4. TWICE
  5. That explains why I missed it in the online schedule. Don't look for TV that time of day
  6. I've no doubt that if DeMarchi pulls one of his patented hits from behind, throw them head first into the boards move, the closest Sioux to him will be in swinging. Chances are, since they usually occur behing the Gopher net, it will be a Sioux forward (with both Dmen trying to get into the action).
  7. In listening to the game only, Hennesey and company were more satisfied with the job Schmitt did. They did say Bochenski was mugged, held, tripped, etc all weekend. At the same time as some Sioux fans complaing about the refs, however, CC fans, who seldom complain, did not like it either. I know listening to the game, I seldom heard Sejna's name, and heard Bochenski much less than usual. Hennesey did say the series was very physical. I'm wondering, for those of you at the game, if maybe both teams did a fair amount of clutch and grab against the opponents top offensive players (Bochenski and Sejna primarily)? Would only make sense to do so, and would explain why both teams' fans are a bit dissatisfied with Schmitt. I like the "let 'em play" sort of officiating. Maybe because the Sioux have seldom lost the 5x5 play over the years.
  8. There is no tape delay for Friday's game listed in the FOXN schedule, neither late Friday nor Sunday.
  9. DeMarchi has always done all his cheap stuff from a safe place, from behind, etc, etc. He never goes face to face with anyone. Green or Hale would destroy him, but we need both, as well as Jones and Schneider, playing D and not worrried about that hack.
  10. I haven't had the pleasure, but I wish I could get the TV broadcasts. Could take whoever was on there, but, I'm stuck with streaming audio.

    Alum Update

What a pickup he was for Toronto. Seems that his game is back after all the office/onice problems last year in Dallas. Want to see goal tending like that in the REA again.
  12. Certainly was (and is). Key was finally getting two successful PK's and then scoring a PP. Tieing goal, lucky bounces, Sioux had their share this weekend, seems that things are going good. Sounded like CC played a defensive third period (but a good one, as neither team had much for chances). Great effort to get the point. Let's put the Gophs out of the McNaughton running next weekend.

Saw that disallowed goal on the WJC Live Action update during the game, but teamline wasn't working at the time, so don't know if the US broadcasters questioned the call or not. Maybe they showed a replay on the YES broadcast. Anyone watching?
  14. Lucia has ended Welch' career as a Goph. Didn't get it done academically, so he is apparently now done permanently.

Here's Canada's recap of the game: http://www.canadianhockey.ca/e/teams/mens/...303_canusa.html Sounds like Zach's line was again outstanding, just didn't finish often enough.
  16. Guess I did that but didn't mean to; Notermann said in post game interview that he thought they sat back a bit after getting the third period lead. Since I only listened, didn't see it, no doubt it didn't resemble last year's prevent. Not a bad outcome, at any rate.
  17. Should have been the GWG. Please don't let the boys back in with a lead in the third. Can't be getting back to last year's habits. Get 'em tomorrow.
  18. Can't answer your question but do you have the new coordinates; they are different than last year: http://www.undalumni.org/view.htm

That's right, jk. Tough to make the gold medal game without finishing #1 in your pool. The Canadian crowd at Halifax was cheering for the Czechs, although I'm sure they'd rather beat the USA themselves. Would be big to beat the Canadians on their own ice, but that will be difficult. Here's a stats page for the WJC: http://icehockey.iihf.net/0203/tournaments/W20.asp At any rate, the US will play a medal game this weekend.

Both teams score two in the second. 4-2 USA after two. US goals by Kesler -PP (Higgins, Whitney) and Suter (Higgins, Kesler). Parise and Higgins doing very well on the faceoffs, especially on the PK. Jones with a penalty that period, but none for Greene.

Helminen (Jones, Kesler) and Parise (Brown) have scored midway through period 1 and lead the Czechs 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Period ends 2-0. Two penalties on USA, one on Greene (who else ) Czechs with a penalty at the buzzer. USA PP to start period 2.
  22. That should be a good defensive line, and, having last change, may help shut down the high scoring CC line. Also, CC fans say that Sterling will be most missed on the PP, which may be a good thing, given the Sioux's PK success (or lack of), against the best PP's so far this year. CC did struggle on the PP agains WMU (was that without Sterling?), although the Clarke-Sejna-Sertich line lit 'em up 5 on 5.

The Czechs did beat Sweden today, 3-1. Complicating matters, however, is that if Canada beats Finland tonight, Finland and the Czech Republic finish with identical records in Pool B (since they tied head to head). Not sure, then, what the tiebreaker is, nor which team will face the US on Thursday. Update: According to Canadian broadcast during the Canada/Finland post game, in the medal round semi's Canada will play the winner of USA-Czech Republic, while Russia will play the winner of Slovakia/Finland.

Brown with a PP goal late in the third on nice pass from Parise puts US up 3-1. Penalty, BTW, was on Slovak of Slovakia (no kidding), who got a high sticking, followed by a 10 minute misconduct for yapping, followed by a game misconduct for ripping his stick against the glass. This may help him bypass Greene as the penalty leader in the tourney. Game over; USA wins 3-1 and finishes second in Pool A, Russia gets the bye, and USA will play the cross-over game against the third place team in Pool B, on Jan. 2 (winner of Czechoslovakia/Sweden game tonight). Parise=Player of the Game Award If you have the directtv sports pak, Thursday's game will be on YES network, I believe at 3PM ET.
