  1. I love it when Gophs start whining about the "Canadian hockey tactics" employed by Eades and company in the 70s and 80s, and how the new coaching contingent will bring it back. If it wins 2 NCAA's in 3 years like it did for Eades when he was a player, I'd say go for it
  2. Winger, although I don't remember which side. Liked to forecheck and work over opponent dmen in the corners. Long time ago to remember.
  3. Appears they are now being careful about the unnamed source quotes. At any rate, Eades will be a super addition to the coaching staff, with some great recruiting connections in Canada, Minnesota, and the USHL. Still odd that the WDAZ report had Johnson as an applicant, although the GFH says he did not apply.
  4. Look on page 4 of this thread. I posted the list from the WDAZ newscast.
  5. Interesting. You'd think that Johnson, if he has an interest in coaching college hockey, would finish his degree (if he doesn't have one). The WDAZ broadcast did say there was one more day of accepting applicants (reported on Thursday night), so apparently that was not accurate.
  6. Now the Virg article reads that Johnson (and Kallay) did not apply, although the WDAZ report said that Johnson was an applicant. Does the GF media have a clue?
  7. That's the one. Currently a customs agent somewhere.
  8. Looks like he played for a year in Minnesota (1999) following his minor league ice hockey career.
  9. Imes recently agreed to become head coach for the Elk River AA girls team. Olympian in 1994 Dman part of 93 Maine NCAA championship, 95HE player of the year, hobey runner-up, Maine hall of fame HC in Slovania (Slovakia?) Has been substitute teaching recently in the process of getting to know Elk River ACs and meeting players and parents (in addition to applying for another job), "can't wait to get started" Listed here as head coach of the Forge. Looks like he's been doing several things at once.
  10. NOt listed as playing or coaching there. Was part of Maine's NCAA championship team (was it 92), and I believe was an Olympian. Whoops, listed as AC in 00-01 at Tri-City; not listed since.
  11. Gee, thanks, make me do all the work. No fish for you, although I'm tempted to mail some carp sushi (via pony express) to GF Here's some of what I found: Imes - Maine 90-95, IHL, Roller Hockey, AC at Tri-City, USHL Ling (brought about fish reference) - Notre DAme 92-96, IHL, ECHL, currently HC at ECHL's DAyton Raygor - Wisco 95-98, CHL, ECHL Rochefort - lots of NHL experience with Nordiques and RAngers, Currently AC with QMJHL's Acadie-Bathurst Sirant - WHL 78-79, Calgary Wranglers Wise - USHL, early 90's That's it. Applications will be accepted through today.
  12. Watching the streaming version of it this morning: - near 20 applicants - 5 former Sioux (Archie, Eades, Herter, Johnson, Koberinski) - also Patrick Boller, Brett Chernicky, Chris Imes, Aaron Kinslow, Jamie Ling, Thomas McDonald, Christopher Quimby, Eric Raygor, Normand Rochefort, William Sampson, Mike Sirant, Nat White, Nelson White, Jasen Wise - Hak will interview finalists after HR sreening, hopes to offer job early next week anyone that can identify the non-Sioux applicants gets a raw fish
  13. With Alfredsson, Hossa, and Havlat, the Sens are deep at RW (although Hossa and Havlat shoot left), but few names (Varada) ring a bell at LW. Did Bo play much LW for the Sioux last season? Would seem to be his only chance at sticking with the Sens. And speaking of development in the AHL, this looks to be the year when the AHL will be home for many NHLers. Can't beat that for development, playing against the best.
  14. I got used to Sioux leaving after NCAA championships in the early 80s. Have Sioux players regularly left early through the 90s when they weren't winning championships? The Sioux seem to be taking up a lot of space in the uscho headlines on the front page this summer. Not a good thing.
  15. Good for Commie; he he spends lots of time with Calgary, whenever the NHL plays again.
  16. You can access FSSN with a big dish, at the following coordinates; http://www.theralph.com/new2/Watch_The_Sio...n/Satellite.htm It's not available through directtv or dish networks. Lots of discussion here last year about installing the dish (Pete? in the TC does it and posts here regularly, as do several others that had a big dish installed).
  17. Interesting to see these highly touted youngsters headed for SSM. Can't be a bad thing (for the Sioux) to have JP heading the SSM program. As far as Toews, would be nice if ITK is correct, but it's little more than a rumor right now (from an unknown unnamed source). It also appears that he's baiting the major junior supporters on that message board to start a NCAA vs major junioir flamefest. Any highly regarded player at SSM will be rumored as possibly becoming a Sioux, because of the recent Sioux recruiting success at SSM, which began with ZParise, and continued with JParise, Stafford, Porter, Smaby, and future Sioux Chorney and Duncan (did I miss someone?). In some ways its not bad the ZPar signed with the Devils after 2 years in college, as it may give top players considering major juniors as the short cut to the NHL something to think about.
  18. Everyone expects Toews to go major junior; believe he has said so himself. Unlike BC'ers from years back (who had Parise written in after the Eaves boys went to BC), don't believe anyone here is writing Toews into the Sioux lineup. Seemed that Parise changed the SSM connection from BC (short-lived) to the Sioux, but nothing lasts forever. The most recent SSM Sioux recruits, Chorney and Duncan, are sons of former Sioux.

  20. Analysis: The Hiring of Hakstol Good article, Pat
  21. Is USHR a paid membership only site? Tried to access the article but can not.

  23. From USAHOCKEY: Mike Hastings (Omaha, Neb.), head coach and general manager of the United States Hockey League
  24. Would that be they weigh the same (although a foot different in height)?
  25. Interesting. Some ammo for on-board fighting with "Suze". UAA'S classless coach going after a Sioux recruit
