Satellite Move for The Fighting Sioux Sports Network

got sound here left only audio -
If it's a fixed dish, the FSSN stays at the same spot all year so you wouldnt have to move it. In the 4 years I've had FTA the FSSN only used 2 satellites. Theyve been on the current one (IA8 at 89 degrees west) for 2 years. The satellite at the current spot didnt exist 2+ years ago Depending on location, it really isnt that hard. Im in Minneapolis so my dish faces just a smidge off straight south. If your location is legit, the dish would be aimed a little farther east then mine is. You would need a new cable run to from the dish to the receiver. Inside you can use an a/b box to select between the 2 receivers or if your TV had enough a/v inputs, hook it up that way The only FSSN programming is the games and with FTA, you never know when stuff gets scrambled. There are a few schools that show games on FTA for alumni and fans. Montana is another one that utilizes FTA to show their football games. Also because they have to get the signal to the TV stations across Montana so they beam it up via satellite. Some of the football games are on the same satellite as the FSSN. The only one who honestly knows the answer whether or not it stays free is the head of production for the FSSN. I think as long as WDAZ stays part of the FSSN, it should stay free. A few years ago the Ralph sold a system to pick up the games. The best thing to do right now since its the end of the FSSN season is to wait until fall when we know more. Then for some reason if they move satellites you wont need to reaim.

Just a FYI on the viewsat Viewsat + motor = nightmares Something is goofy with the Viewsat that it will remember the satellite spot for the first time but as you use the motor, it never hits it bang on after that. This has been a proven fact by way too many (disappointed) Viewsat owners But Vegas is right

Its actually KU Band, which is a 30 to 36" dish. There are 2 ways to have it set up. 1. A fixed dish at the satellite that the FSSN uses. Lots of Sioux fans outside of the FSSN cable area have that. They buy a basic system for a couple hundred bucks (or less) and use it just for the FSSN. They aim the dish at the satellite the FSSN uses and put in the satellite info to pick it up. 15 minutes before game time the screen pops up and when its done the signal goes bye bye. When the season is over, some people unplug the receiver and it doesn't get fired up until late September or 1st game in October 2. A Motorized system. This allows you to pick up whatever is free up on the satellites. I have a motorized because on some weekends there are other hockey games out there. Yes you have to search for them but its well worth it. Motorized does take a little more to set up than a fixed. Plus I use my setup for more than just the FSSN No fees once you buy the system and it can work in conjunction with any other setup (antenna, cable, satellite). Its a receiver that is totally independent of your other viewing setup.

squirtcoach is right. Dish or Directv have NEVER carried the FSSN. You would need a free to air system, which consists of a 30" dish & LNB and a FTA receiver Sadly, I don't know of any FTA shops near Chicago.

Unless Bucky sends FSN out there, the Denver/Wisco game wont be shown. FSN RM has basketball (state tourney) so it looks like I can see 3 of the games right now UMD/JBSU (WDIO out of Duluth) UAA/UMTC (FSN) MSU/UND (FSSN)
-
UMTC in 2. Blowout and a close one UMD in 3..UMD will win game 1 and 3 UND in 3..Mansucko will win cheaply on Saturday Bucky in 3..Denver will blow one game MTU in 2..CC sucks
-
possible. I know most charter areas have a "main street" channel but they only show hockey in their designated areas. Mansucko will only show their games or when they play St Cloud or Bemidji..same with the other two teams. Duluth sometimes will if WDIO doesn't show them but only when they play St Cloud, Mankato, or Bemidji.
-
cannot be picked up via satellite Charter Main Street is a channel on Charter cable thats like a public access channel and shows hockey games. Mankato has their own version of this channel too. So other than Clown town and the nearby cities, I don't think they will show it outside of there.

Fox College Sports is a cable only item. Its a cable versson of the multisport pack that Dish & Direct have Dish it's on 414
-
huh? nobody is carrying the game on Saturday so how is Directv going to "cover" both games?
-
because according to the online TV guide the Colorado womens b-ball game is more important
-
GO DOGS!! Sorry..had to do it

so true! I am a college hockey fan and when I first got my free to air system, I didnt know they were on KU Band until someone had mentioned it. Reaimed my dish and pipcked up the Sioux game and thought "this was cool". Found out that all home games were on TV so the dish stayed there until end of season.

its pay per view http://www.stcloudstate.edu/athletics/spor.../b2networks.asp

understandable PCM I meant the people have the option of watching it via satellite if they so do please. Yes Alaska does beam their games up via satellite but its on C-band (the old big backyard dishes) and some times they tape delay them until 1:30AM CST

We've been down this same road before (specifically the football playoffs) WDAZ has a stake in the FSSN since they supply the production people. Who else is going to show the games? If I recall, none of the other stations in the market are in GF so I can't see other stations putting the time and effort into the FSSN. WDAZ has some more resources in WDAY. But lets look on the posititve. The Sioux fans are lucky as you know all home games are on TV. I guess some people use UMTC as the bench mark and think that all teams should have a TV schedule like that. Unless in a couple years FSN decides to crate a "Dakotas" feed for all the DI teams I don't see it happening. But in terms of TV coverage, here is how they rank TV exposure wise (not internet). 1. UMTC 2. Bucky 3. UND 4. Mankato/SCSU/UAA 7. UMD/Denver 9. CC 10. MTU UMTC obviously is #1 due to FSN. But remember, when FSN started carrying them they had no winter sports (no Wolfies and I dont think the North Stars were on there) Bucky is #2 again due to FSN and they also tape delay some games for Wisco Public TV UND/Mankato/SCSU/UAA are all kinda in the same boat. All have all the home games televised on local cable TV and in some cases a couple road games. Mankato/SCSU will show in both markets since they are on a channel owned by Charter cable. But I put UND #3 since they have their games on satellite so people outside the GF area can see the games. UMD & Denver have a mix of home & road. Both have around 15-17 games a year. In UMD's case, 6 games this year are just simulcasts of FSN games with UMD graphics (4 with Bucky & 2 with UMTC) CC picks up a few feeds from other teams (UND & UMD are examples) and Denver series on RSN RM MTU I dont think has any TV coverage So lets be happy that you can see your team even if you don't live near GF.

As for picking up the feed from Clown town, let's put this in perspective WDAZ didn't televise the home football playoff game this year WDAZ disn't televise the 2nd round road playoff game in Omaha even though they could have. Sweeney said on Saturday's game that next week's game (this week now) against UMD is the last regular season games and if the Sioux are at home, you'll see the playoff games. If they aren't, well then we don't know. translation....why would WDAZ pay twice as much money in uplink fees to show an away game? Remember, road games require 2 uplinks in most cases. One from the arena to the Ralph (to get the game) and then the one they would send out with commercials. And that's if they take the feed directly and do not do their own. Home games only require one feed. Also, St Cloud isn't keen with letting people grab their feed. I've only seen two games on satellite. The Alaska games were beamed back to Anchorage. Would I like to see them on TV? hell yes Do I really see it happening at least in the next two weeks? probably not
-
The Friday game is on FSN RM so Senser's could get it. The Saturday game is not
-
I say a split (this is from a Dogs fan) Hopefully the Dogs come out and play like they did the Saturday game (win) vs. Denver instead of the Friday game (loss)

Satellite Move for The Fighting Sioux Sports Network

I know I'm a little late but each LNB is different and has some "float" especially due to temperatures. I've picked up the Sioux feed on 12044 (the legit one) but 12043, 12042 and even 12046. -
I know this sounds bad but Johnson almost made a boner there

UAA & UMTC tied at 1 watching the game on the big dish and the radio guy was talking about the Bucky Center (UAA plays there next week) and he was talking about the student section and says "when the student section gets rocking with the band the poor visiting goalie is kinda stuck in a hell hole"
