  1. +1000 You could read Hemingway and Dickens for months and not come across a better phrase than this.
  2. It's like someone at ESPN reads siouxsports.com: Does height still matter for NHL draft prospects?
  3. Maybe he’s still got a bit more height left in him?
  4. I may be seeing this incorrectly, but it seems like NIL money is mostly going to come into play when recruiting the top 1% of college-bound players. Blue-chippers, first- and second-round draft picks. Guys for whom a college education is likely NOT going to be valuable at that point in their life.
  5. Woog was the Yogi Berra of college hockey. Those quotes are great. “Took one in the toast!” “Flo is back in the diner…”
  6. IF the NCHC adds ASU, which of the following scenarios do you all think is most likely? 1) Add one, lose zero: Simply add ASU to the existing eight members for a total of nine teams. 2) Add two, lose zero: Add a second team along with ASU (within, say, two years), bringing the total number of teams to ten. 3) Add one, lose one: Drop/lose a current member (likely Miami) when ASU joins keeping the total number of teams at eight. 4) Add two, lose two: Add a second team along with ASU, lose Miami and Western Michigan, keeping the total number of teams at eight.
  7. This is stupendous work, @AJS. BTW, just looked up Hensler's EP page. What stands out? The kid is only 16 but already 6'5". Goodness, how tall is he gonna get? Owen Power is the last super-tall, high-end defenseman that comes to mind. In his age 16 season, Power averaged just under half a point per game in the USHL. This past season, Hensler averaged right around half a point per game for the NTDP team.
  8. Rumor has it that the parking lot for the Mav’s arena is being shipped to Madison this summer.
  9. The Talking Heads nailed it: Same as it ever was.
  10. Are NHL teams allowed to not sign a player they drafted (not counting situations where there’s been some sort off-ice scandal)?
  11. I thought he was a disaster defensively. But surely there were times when he looked bad because others weren't in proper position.
  12. Under Motzko, the Gophers are grittier than they used to be. That being said, Motzko still has to prove that he can win a championship. He’s had immensely talented teams that have spit the bit.
  13. That list might relate to this list: 156, 157, 163, 165, 169, 170. These are listed weights of the six lightest forwards: Owen Mac, Perron, Gaber, Blake, Montgomery, and Ness. I wonder if the coaches think our smaller forwards might need some protection from bigger d-men.
  14. UND allowed 2.8 goals per game last season, ranking 29th in the nation. And that was with an abysmal Team Save Percentage of .886 (tied with hockey powerhouse LIU!). Assuming a slight improvement in overall save percentage and assuming a slight improvement in overall defensive structure--that's more than a little assuming, I concede, but it's the offseason and hopium is on the menu--I think a top 15 defense is realistic. (At 2.5 goals allowed per game, UND would have been tied for 14th in the nation.) It probably all comes down to the fishbowl though.
  15. Does anyone have any information on Hobie Hedquist? He hasn't played since April 19 because of an injury (I believe). Penticton is playing Alberni Valley, Hedquist's team, for the BCHL championship and Hedquist isn't even listed on the line chart. (OT: Penticton was 50-3 in the regular season and is 14-1 so far in the playoffs. Surreal numbers.)
  16. The portal closes on Thursday, May 18. The new coaching staff at Mankato will probably throw a party.
  17. I was today year's old when I first heard of Le Moyne College.
  18. Youngstown downed Fargo 2-1 in OT in the USHL finals. A couple of observations from the game: 1) Neither Strathmann nor Swanson tallied a point in the game. Strathmann looked confident with the puck and seemed defensively responsible. Indeed Youngstown as a whole was defensively sound and pretty physical, giving Fargo very few grade A chances. 2) As for Swanson, he's quick and he was able to absorb contact while staying on his skates. Tonight however he didn't impact the game much. He did turn the puck over a couple times. You can see the potential though. A growth spurt would do his game a world of good. 3) I thought the best player on the ice was Jacob Fowler, Youngstown's goalie. Calm and always in good position. The only goal he allowed was on a breakaway. I thought the best skater tonight was William Whitelaw, a forward for Youngtown. He created more chances than anyone and was regularly buzzing in the o-zone.
  19. In the Strathmann (Youngstown) vs. Swanson (Fargo) series: Youngstown won last night 4-1 over Fargo. Neither Strathmann nor Swanson registered a point. Swanson's line--Cole Knuble (Notre Dame), Bret Link (Colorado College), and Mac Swanson (UND)--was a -3 on the night. Youngstown's goalie, Jacob Fowler (Boston College), saved 29 of 30 shots. Game 2 tonight at Scheels Arena, 6pm.
  20. Good question. I’m not really sure.
