  1. Wild: Roche makes his mark on, off the ice Not a lot of insight about whether he'll make the roster or not, but another good story about his being the AHL Man of the Year. Something interesting from the story is that Lemaire says Travis needs to step up his offensive game. Says he is ready defensively.
  2. Why would Hallstrom (how hard is that to spell) worry about Klosterman? He's part of the lovefest at Forum Communications that is nothing less than an NDSU fluffer, isn't he? Don't you have some other board to troll on?
  3. To this point, I believe the walk-on candidates have just skated together in open hockey (minus the guys already on the team). Things start for keeps on Monday.
  4. Flavorite??? Go for North Dakota's own Noodle's by Leonardo. Always on sale for around 4 for a dollar. There's also Dakota Grower's from Carrington.
  5. Opinions are fine, but what I'm saying is that continuing to try and change the opinions of people on this board is pointless. All of this 'my school is better than your school and my town is better than your town' is complete bunk. I think that went out somewhere back in junior high. Like Jim said above, no matter what anyone thinks, Fargo is still the largest city in the middle of no where. Big deal. Like people anywhere else in the US could give a rip. I know it wasn't you, but when JBB starts a post off by saying UND's president is against going D-I because he's racist, that is completely asinine. Not jibberish like the guest over there, but it is garbage none-the-less. As for the "Sioux fan" posting on the Bison boards, it's tough to be too sophisticated and dignified when you are 12. Bring the wee one on over here. I'm sure it won't take some of the regulars long to make the goof crawl in a hole.
  6. If DI hockey is so irrelevant, why do all the conversations regarding NDSU's move up include the eventuality of hockey at NDSU (including JBB's)? You guys come on this website to spout off and expect to NOT be called on it? The address that you typed to get here was not www.streamyellow.com Is there not someone at that "prestigious and superior" school that has the intellectual capabilities to create a message board where you can puff up the Bizon and slobber all over each other? This whole conversation is getting pretty tired since the implications of NDSU's decision won't really be seen by the public for two years. Lots can change before then.
  7. Exactly. NDSU will become the next Southwest Texas State and go to the Metrodome for a 42-0 whoopin', all for the $280,000 pay check. But, hey, at least the Bizon are DI. What kind of a sell job will have to be done on the Teammakers in that scenario? Regarding your assessment that the local players will be going to NDSU on "full scholarships", I hope that happens. But realistically it can't if the Bizon are going to be competitive at the DIAA level. The talent isn't there. A player such as Jeff Boschee is NOT going to attend NDSU just because NDSU is DI.
  8. The most interesting sentence in the stories covering the NDSU press conference had to be "Few current NDSU coaches were present at the press conference." Isn't that odd? This is arguably the most significant athletic news at NDSU in quite some time, yet the coaches couldn't find the time to attend the press conference. Did anyone notice the D-IAA power Southwest Texas State visited the Goofers yesterday? Got beat 42-0 but will receive $280,000 for that drubbing. Are the NDSU Teammakers going to put up with being a "real" D-I school's lapdog in order to pay the excessive bills for D-I? I sure can't see that being what a person would call "progress".
  9. Anyone know if Lolar found his way back to GF? I heard last spring that he had gone to visit friends over a long weekend and never came back. Any idea if he surfaced anywhere? I seriously doubt he'll be back with the Sioux.

    REA Website

While we're talking websites, don't forget to take the time to check out Ralph's TRF project. It will be one of the finest high school arenas in the country. Steel started to arrive yesterday. I did not get an opportunity to drive past the site today, so I don't know if any is going up or not. The website is updated with new pictures frequently, so if you check back from time to time, you will see the progress that is being made. The arena is going to be finished in time for the beginning of the 2003/04 season. There is a slight possibility of the Prowlers being able to skate in the arena towards the end of the coming season, but games are not likely to be played until the following season. There could be a 'significant' first game in the arena... Stay tuned.
  11. Someone could always email the UND SID...
  12. Not having Minnesota coming in next year will really put a strain on the fickle fans that sell their Gopher tickets to Gopher fans in order to pay for their season tickets for the rest of the year... Don Lucia is the one that designed the system. (or so he says) SCSU is our 'natural rival' according to him, so we'll play them every year 4 times. I'm wondering why we are playing such an easy non-conference schedule. Don't teams want to come to Grand Forks to play? Come on... Bemidji State, Brandon University, and the University of Manitoba is the best we can get for a holiday tourney? Our season tickets are going up next year for this? Wow.
  13. *Sedevie in USHL next year. *Aaron Schweitzer possible Grad Assistant goalie coach next year. *Parise a combo Tony Hrkac/Greg Johnson. All from Hennesey on coach's show. Also, Blais stiffed them. Told them he was coming but didn't show up. Lot's of talk about D-1 for NDSU (and UND) and some hockey talk. They took calls all night as there were no coaches on tonight.
  14. You're right. The key is making that first pass to beat the first forechecker, whether it's to the other d, or the wing running up the boards. There aren't many defensemen anymore that can take the puck and carry it end to end any time that they want to ala Roche. That probably isn't expected of any of Dean's defensemen, as a player like Travis comes along once in ten years or so. Just make the pass, to your teammate, tape to tape, and you're doing your job.
  15. dagies, The incident didn't happen because 'they' say it didn't happen. I heard about it from my 'eyes' for the game last night, Tim O'Keefe. I have to rely on what he said, because I was forced to stay home this weekend. But Tim is just a biased radio guy, unlike Glen Sonmor, so I'm sure that he made it up. I guess the only people that truly are able to comment are the people that were there. That's according to 'them', anyway. Taking comments from this board and posting them, or links to them, on another board is pretty typical of 'those' people. Of course everything gets taken out of context and it is 'appalling' how Sioux fans could react to a season ending loss. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise. And Handyman doesn't want to stir the pot...
  16. Sioux played with a lot of guts/grit/class/pride tonight. Andy Kollar is going to have lots of bruises from getting all that rubber shot onto him. What a game he played tonight. Adam Hauser shows the class that oozes from that program by skating in front of the Sioux bench after the winning goal and pointing a finger. So much for winning with dignity, though it isn't a big surprise at all. Guys like him, Demarchi, and Taffe makes it awfully hard to like Leopold, Pohl, and Paul Martin. Like I heard on the radio tonight, Hauser isn't going to win them a national title, yet with their talent, he might not lose it for them either. The Sioux had a lot of chances in the 3rd and the OT, but Hauser just stepped up and shut the door. Heard an interesting stat just now... Chad Mazurak scores the first goal of the year for the Sioux and now the last goal of the year. The Sioux didn't quit tonight and after getting their butts kicked all over the ice last night showed a lot of courage. I don't care where we finished in the standings this year. We didn't get a bounce all year long and this team is definitely not that far away. This Minnesota team is probably the most talented team in the country, yet we were within two goals EVERY GAME but one. The Sioux showed many times throughout the year a glimpse of the future with some quality wins against quality teams. Holy s&!t what a long year it's been! We can finally say it now, just wait 'til next year!
  17. For being someone not familiar with the game of hockey a few short years ago, you sure seem to have become quite the expert, especially concerning this rivalry. Just keep up the yapping. Unlike Gopher fans, we can take it. You'll get yours. Hopefully for the Gophers' sake they win tonight, or the chances of a bye will go out the window. Without a bye, the chances of the Gophers even making it to St. Paul decrease dramatically. BTW, why did you even come to this site today? I'm sure it had nothing to do with stirring the pot. Don't you and SL have some face painting to get done? There are fans that do that in Grand Forks, too, only they are mostly 11 & 12 year old girls.
  18. To me, it's as much of a leap of logic as thinking that dropping the 'North' from North Dakota is going to get people to forget that it really is cold up here. It'll be a tourism boom!
  19. Regarding the U of M guys being yappers and artists with the stick, I have a theory on that. The far majority of the U of M players did not compete for an entire season at the USHL level, where fighting is allowed. In that league, if you get your stick up or rub someone's face into the glass, you will get you butt handed to you. That is one reason I think that Taffe will have a tough time for a while in the NHL (if he gets there). He is one of the more active antagonists on that team. If he were to try all the stuff at a higher level that he does in college hockey, he better be able to back it up. It's a maturation process that some guys get while others don't. It doesn't surprise me at all that the players would say that. There's always been an aura that followed the guys that play at the U of M. That's why Sioux fans hate the Gophers so badly.
  20. Speaking of 'Slap Shot', who do you think is the designated 'kick-Canady's-a$$-guy' after what he did to the Gopher bench up in Grand Forks? Anyone think Canady will be able to draw a penalty this weekend? They're going to be all over him.
  21. I drove around to about 10 different places in TRF and could not find it on the rack anywhere. I finally was able to read it at my in-laws, where my wife's brother has a subscription still being paid for by mom and dad. (that's another story) I didn't see it at Target or Wal-Mart in Grand Forks, either.
  22. Tim, you have to remember that these are the beginnings of the 'glory years' for UAA. I'm at the point where I don't care if the Sioux sweep this weekend. The guys just need to go out there and work hard. Each of them needs to BE A FACTOR on every shift. I watched part of the Gopher/Badger game on Friday night and heard something interesting... "The Sioux were going into Duluth this weekend having penciled in four points." ---> Doug Woog. Where did he get this idea? I didn't hear that from anyone connected to the UND team. Maybe he reads USCHO or something. It might have been on there, but I gave up reading that garbage. I think after how this season has gone, it is HIGHLY unlikely that UND has a team that exhibits overconfidence going into any series. Whatever happens this weekend, I would love for the Sioux to have to travel to Minnesota for the first round and knock off those arrogant cake-eaters. If the Goofers don't get a bye, they are going to have trouble making it to St. Paul. It would be fitting for the Sioux to take that opportunity for a bye away from them.
