  1. It used to be the Big 5 (AA), then Enron.
  2. I thought Trump didn't want his books opened because he's really broke. ... so hard to keep up.
  3. The "jail" article. This article. It's all just pre-programming the low-information world.
  4. https://deadline.com/2020/09/rams-nfl-sunday-night-football-ratings-down-cowboys-nbc-60-minutes-1234576202/
  5. Reports are claiming NFL ratings are down 28%.
  6. He'll be in the same cell block with Mr Obama, Mr and Mrs Clinton, and Mr (GW) Bush ... you know, the Nixon Wing of the prison.
  7. How naive were we back in March. Back then the Editorial Board of the SJ Mercury News thought this: How 14th Century. Today we quarantine everyone, including the healthy and unexposed.
  8. Looking at the numbers, I find it far more ghastly that 570 newborns (per 100k) never make it to age one, when compared to COVID-19 data.
  9. ... of death or ... wit... nevermind.
  10. That's how the CDC presents the statistics (follow link).
  11. Allow me to say it again: Here are COVID-19 deaths per 100k of population, by state; the worst state is New Jersey at 180 per 100k. Here is infant mortality (5.7) per 1000 live births. <-- That is 570 deaths per 100k live births. Being born is still 3x more deadly than COVID in New Jersey. (<-- There has to be a great New Jersey joke in there.) Tell me which one is the greater "pandemic".
  12. With crack reporting like this, what's not to trust about COVID reporting, or reporting in general: Well goodness, imagine if they'd hit a record for old deaths. Or if total deaths went ... down. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/13/coronavirus-cases-are-growing-in-11-us-states.html
  13. Sounds like West Fargo HS and Detroit Lakes HS are going virtual because of positive tests.
  14. May I change your "where" to a "how".
  15. The quintessential statement on TV news is Don Henley's Dirty Laundry. (Parody video of song ... or it is ...) We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blond Who comes on at five She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye It's interesting when people die Give us dirty laundry Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet? You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet Get the widow on the set! We need dirty laundry You don't really need to find out what's going on You don't really want to know just how far it's gone Just leave well enough alone Eat your dirty laundry Full Lyrics
  16. I guess I'd be a Saturday.
  17. That's not a controlled substance, although some days it should be.
  18. Are you under the influence of a substance that alters perceptions and reaction times? "Get up off the asphalt. You're not really dead; dude behind the wheel was stoned, not drunk."
  19. ... on a goal with 9 seconds left. NYI played the perfect game for them ... and still lost. The sound you just heard was the fork coming out of the silverware drawer and heading for NYI.
  20. Same dude. Risk. Reward. Friction.
  21. I'm elevating the penalty. Friction.
  22. Tell that to the dead person killed by a pot user behind the wheel. (Golly, that "what about the children" type reply is actually kinda fun. ) I've said it before: Here's how you get away with murder in America --> Be seen in a bar 'consuming' (but pouring them in a plant); then, go drive over your victim; then, slosh down a fifth of whatever beverage it was you were pretending to drink at the bar and then hit a curb/pole/tree. Cops show up and you're blackout drunk. The worst you'll come away with is vehicular manslaughter (and that's if you have a bad lawyer).
  23. Crabby guy here. Life is negotiation, give and take. I'll give legalized weed ... if ... and there's always one of those ... if you give me my ask: Driving under influence, proven by blood test, and you kill someone gets you the death penalty. Period. And that's weed ... or booze. I'll give you the play toy, but I want the friction to make sure misuse is not worth the risk. Signed, A guy who's been broadsided by drunk going 50 mph in town.
  24. Yeah, that "peace in the Middle East" thing is a testy, persistent problem. Oh, wait, ... you were talking "the war on drugs". Nevermind. Endless wars.
