B1G arrogance has infused itself into BTHC. They won't reach down to a "lesser" league for an assistant to become a B1G head coach. That said, MSU-Mankato, Tech, and WMU should be worried about their head guys getting calls from the "608".

Too many crews think they are better than they are. Even CBC (HNIC) and other NHL coverage doesn't change live cameras or live zoom in on play as much as some of these folks try. It's OK to stay back (zoomed out on zone) on puck and only use the other angles for replays.

Sometimes that is the right play, like if you're gassed and can't change (no TO). Wasn't the case this instance, but still not the worst possible play.

I saw 24 play one USHL game in person. I wasn't sure he was ready for college and he was coming that fall. He's improved but still is a work in progress. He needs a full, no dings on the body, season to put it all together.

On Saturday, in the crease, DeRidder was knocked over more times than the Qwik-e-Mart on the bad side of town.

Ha-ha-ha-ho-ho-ho ... Oh. Wait. You're serious. Because as much as the NCHC preaches "all in" some of the programs get the same or less media attention than AHA schools. Some are lucky to have net overheads and a center ice primary camera they do have. In contrast, I fully expect fixed blue line cameras in REA soon because of the interesting view they give, just like the REA in-net cameras. Those (net or blue line) aren't even on the radar in half the league.

Yes, but you still have to be smart when you pick your spots and fast enough to recover. Omaha's first on Friday was the polar opposite of that.

Say we lose all of 13, 15, and 28. There's an obvious captain in that trio we'll lose out on. Then it's 4, 11, 17, 27. I only see one potential captain in that group. And it's a center, not a wing. Yes, I'd hang a C on LouieJam before Gaber. The group behind that? Only Schmaltz has shown glimpses so far. And the freshmen? James gave me hope this weekend by stepping up twice. I'd argue we're missing captains, leaders of men, or they just haven't shown up yet.

And what changed? Poor play should be fixed in the room by holding teammates accountable. Why'd it take this long? I've noticed I've seen less of the C and more of one of the As in media lately. It nearly coincides with the better play.

You got really close to the hidden problem I see.

Given the "find new home" success rate of portal guys (under 50%), players would do well to take pause before jumping into that pool. Maybe 5 goes to play with his brother at CC, or 11 goes to ASU to be with his brother.
