I like the previous answer a whole lot. Then again, there's always room for more of those banners. I've said UND should hang the seven WCHA tournament titles it could lay claim to. This is how it was explained to me: You hang regular season banners to show that you were the best during the long haul, over the whole season: Proven performance, no hot goalie weekends or fluke goal wins gets that banner. Winning a national title shows that, at the end of the season, you were among the best of everyone out there and beat them at the end. The best of the best, and the best of them all, matters. What's the WCHA tournament title? It's not the long haul and it's not the largest (and best) field that you're playing against. To win a WCHA tourney you need to be good for nine days and you'll be playing against at least one team that isn't near "the best of the best" (a non-NCAA qualifier). Anything can happen in the WCHA tournament (just ask Wisconsin this year or CC from a few back). Being tops amongst your peers over the long haul or being the best of all in the field at the end is noteworthy: Hang it.

I'd have to agree with your first sentence. His "trash containers" experience served him well seeing how comfortable he looked cleaning up in the Bison backfield.

Feel better? Done ranting? Now go and read what I posted in this thread earlier. Be sure to read and understand the UND Athletics budget (linked to in that thread). The prices have to be set so the bills can be paid. You don't have to like it but it's the reality.

So how's that bode for Goldie in 2004-2005?

Wouldn't it be either the athletic department (Roger Thomas) or the alumni association (Tim O'Keefe)?

Why not go above him? Who's he work for? That's what I do when I can't get a response.

No one likes price increases: Just ask the students about the 16.5% tuition increase. That tuition increase translates to increased costs for scholarships for UND teams as well. When you look at the UND Athletics budget, even if you held the line on every other cost item the scholarship line item goes up 16.5%, or $217,839.00, for FY 2005. Where's the extra revenue to cover that come from? The Sioux-per Gala raised about an extra $150,000.00 (per the June "Sioux Illustrated"). Take the four sections (302A, 303, 306, 314) being asked to join FSC this year and guess that those are about 1200 seats (5000 seats in the upper and those section are about 1/4 of them). For every two of those is an extra $110 to FSC this year: 1200/2 * $110 = $66,000. Between the Gala and the new FSC requirements you've raised $216,000.00. That roughly covers the tuition rate increase. Now remember: We started this exercise holding the line on every other FY 2005 budget line item. Just another reminder of one of the simple rules of life: Things cost money. PS - Where are those seats they let go? I'll pick them up.

Gotcha. Back to subject: I'd resend and try calling too. If nothing else, see if you can't face-to-face with him at the nearest golf outing. I've seen him at a couple of those too.

That letter went out to folks affected by the changes to Sections 302A, 303, 306, and 314. If you're a Coaches Club Level member of FSC, why'd they send it to you? You already were a member at or above the level in question and probably don't have seats in those sections.

I've sent email to Mark at that address and I've gotten responses in under five days each time. I'd say try resending or maybe call. He lists a telephone number.

As bad as I feel for Commie, I feel for Rhett Warrener. Why? He played for Buffalo against Dallas in the Cup Finals when Hull scored a goal that wouldn't have been a goal during any other game that season. (They had waived off a ton of similar goals during that season after video reviews. They didn't that time.) This time, in Game 6, the puck off of Warrener's teammate Martin Gelinas' skate wasn't (it seems) properly reviewed at the time. A review of that may have made it 3-2 Calgary.

I've come down on Sioux players for being unsportsmanlike or ungentlemanly. I'm being consistent.

Cheating is such an ugly word. I like to think of it as getting away with unsportsmanlike conduct. It sounds better, but it still wasn't called.

Just thoughts and questions aloud: - Would MSU-Mankato just name an interim head coach for this season from Holley's staff? New coaches like to bring their system and people in. It is pretty late to be doing that. - Did Holley leave for purely personal reasons or is there more going on at Mankato? They have made noise recently about budget problems, Title IX problems, and cutting programs.

spfreak: I found what you read. The story also mentions Ryan Duncan. Duncan's father, Bob, was a teammate of Tim O'Keefe's in their college days. Fanto? Hmmm .... I'm confused. I would have expected that to say .... EDIT: Wow is "jk" quick on the posting trigger.

From today's Grand Forks Herald: Please, other teams: Go after, be out to get, Travis Zajac. Forget about Bochenski, Murray, Stafford, Genoway, Fylling, Porter, et al.

That's right CRR. Valet parking and a moving sidewalk should be put in place immediately.

Universities are supposed to prepare students for life. The on-campus inconveniences are just a training ground for the real world.

I dread considering "experience" in 2005-2006.

Somebody flunked reading comprehension. I'd recommend re-reading the last sentence, the one in parenthesis, of the third paragraph of the story that "ScottM" posted to start this thread. PS - Next someone will be asking why UND used to almost exclusively use Christian sticks.
