... protesting the University of Idaho and it's "Vandals" moniker. Van-dal (noun): 2. A member of a Germanic people that overran Gaul, Spain, and northern Africa in the fourth and fifth centuries A.D. and sacked Rome in 455. (Definition from http://www.answers.com/topic/vandal ) You're a mascot and should be offended. Here's a history of your people. You'll be able to protest locally in Fargo as NDSU plays Idaho in hoop this season.

The Irish were as oppressed as any group when they were new immigrants to this country. Yet, there it is in South Bend, IN: Notre Dame's Fighting Irish.

Your answer is in a quote of Dr. Phil Harmeson by Fargo Forum columnist Mike McFeely from fall of 2004:
-
The phrase you're looking for is "goes ad hominem."

Re-read the excerpt: Boomerang feature activated.
-
Careful. That rock can be flung in many different directions, including the boomerang feature.

Bad things happened in the past. You bet. Never forget them else history's mistakes may repeat. I've posted my thoughts on this before. I'm not sure you had the chance to read them:

NCAA says: No uniforms with "hostile and abusive" logos and words in post-season effective August 5, 2005. Later reality, by UND appealing and getting the NCAA to back down: UND's football team looked good with "Sioux" on the helmet and the logo on the jersey against UMD and GVSU. NCAA says: No arenas with "hostile and abusive" logos and words can host after February 1, 2006. Later reality, by UND appealing and getting the NCAA to back down: NCAA West Region still on in Ralph Engelstad Arena. NCAA says: This policy is in full effect on February 1, 2006. Later reality, by UND appealing and getting the NCAA to back down (specifically from the NCAA letter to Dr. Kupchella dated January 4, 2006): "... although the policy becomes effective February 1, 2006, the Executive Committee will stay the application of all provisions of the policy for all institutions in the appeal process, ... including North Dakota. Small victories, but victories just the same.

Who always seems to be turning on and directing the spotlight (at themselves)?
-
Question, because I don't know the answer: Is Rob looking for something where he is the number one guy? Has he reached a point in his career where he wants that? He's been the "top assistant" for most of his career (with RT in football, at alumni under Strinden and O'Keefe, now in Athletics). If he's looking to be the "top banana" somewhere you can't begrudge him that. And you won't make him happy with anything less if that's what he wants.
-
Wouldn't he be "in command" of the BSU Foundation? That seems like a step up (even at BSU).
-
Head of the BSU Foundation is a "lesser title"? Uh, no. That's the same title Tim O'Keefe has at UND. That's a step up from an AAD position or his past development officer position at UND Alumni (even if it is at Bemidji).

Where'd I see that 10-2 down the stretch notion earlier today .... http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?s=...ndpost&p=136617 Look at who and where they play: Teams above them in the standings today: DU and CC, both on the road. Teams below them in the standings today: MSUM, SCSU, UMD, MTU, all at REA. This team needs to win out at home and split (or better) on the road. To me it's not about "home ice" for the WCHA; it's about winning percentage and RPI and PWR standings and getting into the NCAAs (to be at home).

Missouri-Rolla bailed out on them recently leaving them at 9. The nice numbers for scheduling are 10 or 12. There's the philosophy; would they add three is a question only they have the answer to. Adding 1 to get back to 10 seems like an easy one to answer, and UNO has made MIAA noises in the past. The question that the MIAA would have to consider is do they want to go to 12 and have Augie and USD as a travel pair (if Augie and USD were interested)?

Let's really crank this around with http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...341/1002/SPORTS and http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?s=...ndpost&p=136491 Like I posted in that other thread: "could force" means SCSU's recent talk of DI-AA. But the "some schools", plural, and MIAA really has me interested. I'd only heard UN-Omaha make noise like that. Would USD or Augustana look that direction too? They could play NSIC schools non-conference for Twin Cities exposure and get exposure in the St. Louis and Kansas City area (MIAA). Not a bad situation for a potential DII MIAA member from any accounting. A scenario like that could really leave SCSU, Duluth, and Mankato jammed up.

Really? Search my NCAA manuals (in PDF) as I might, I don't find that. Maybe I don't have the manual where issues like that are addressed. Please don't tell me you "Don Adam'd" that one. What my recollections tell me is that Mr. Engelstad intended there to be a student section in the arena.

This team needs to come out and play 120 minutes of quality, disciplined, 5x5 hockey this weekend. No more of this "where were they Friday" crap like Anchorage and Minnesota. There is no more time for "hole digging" and "digging back out of." I figure this team must go 10-2 down the stretch in the league to be completely sure of WCHA home ice and making the regional (to be held in their own barn). I say this team needs to step up and decide right now that the next loss in Engelstad Arena by this team won't come until a month that ends in "r". And they need to back it up and play that way starting right now, this shift, and every shift after.

Clueless University of Minnesota students (but I repeat myself), didn't they realize that Robbie is out for the season? Why target a guy who is medically ineligible? If you want to do the "short joke" (real creative talent there I say) why not target Phillippe Lamoureux, a guy who will actually be playing? (Now re-read the first five words of this post.)

I just finished reading that other thread in this forum. I thought fan behavior didn't matter.

Question: Could it be that UMD, GVSU, and others including UND all have the same size "pipe" but more folks are trying to use UND's? That is both good and bad. Bad is poor connection. Good is people trying to listen to UND.

Open memo to Sioux coaching staff: Dave, Brad, Cary, seen it three times this year, both live and on television. It's pretty clear. Even strength: Don Lucia knows your system. He has his guys clogging up your standard passing lanes and pinching to pressure your youth into making poor decisions and passes. If you have another breakout scheme or system it might be time to implement it because what you're doing now is completely neutralized. That's when your team has the puck. Now the other 90% of the time (and I'm not kidding, and that's a problem), you have to either (a) get your guys to win races to and battle for the puck, or (b) have them play defense and get the puck away from Lucia's guys. Not winning races to the puck is a problem on so many levels, starting at the top. Missing standard defensive assignments is a problem too, also starting at the top. Up a man: Your team is young. Donny knows this. He's going to be playing a pressure penalty kill. I have three games worth of proof of this. The counter is to put it on net and get a couple garbage goals by outmuscling their smaller defense with your bigger "garbage" forwards. Playing with it out high when they're playing pressure kill is playing to what Donny is hoping for: mistakes and clears. Down a man: Donny's guys like that "around the umbrella" passing to set up the quick, open, diagonal pass to a one-timer shot from a down, low position (inside the dot) where the goalie (in this case Phillippe) has to move, and is moving, pipe to pipe. It works great on that glacier in Mariucci because the passing lanes are much larger than on an 85' rink like REA. They've done this; they're doing this. Either (a) tighten up the box to take the diagonals away and make them fire straight on (giving Phillippe a chance to square up) and have your big defense outmuscle and make clears or (b) chase and pursue like they're doing to you and try to get them to make mistakes. This loose, passive box plays right to what they want to do. All times: Discipline? Heard of it? Your team can win a 5x5 game. It can not win when it is down a skater for more than 10 minutes per game, and especially if some of that is major time. Signed, A guy who needs to buy a new bottle of Pepto and a new bottle of Maalox
