  1. From the Executive Summary to "EMPIRICAL EFFECTS OF DIVISION II INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS" by Orszag and Orszag, June 2005 (a study commissioned by the NCAA): Summary on going DI: - Spending up $3.7 MM - Revenues up only $2.5 MM -- most of $2.5 MM comes from institutional support http://www2.ncaa.org/portal/media_and_even...e_Athletics.pdf It's a good read (and a mere 192k).
  2. From UND: D-I dollars If everything is "on the table" why not consider dropping non-revenue sports for sports that are growing and have a shot at becoming a revenue sport (and that you could be Championship-level competitive at)?
  3. One-game playoffs are a crap-shoot. What I need to know about the state of UND's program right now is: 30-0 Undefeated Regular Season 2006 NCC Womens Basketball Regular Season Champions 2006 NCC Womens Basketball Tournament Champions (six-time defending) 2006 NCAA Regional Finalist The rest, although bitterly disappointing, is an indicator of nothing save for coming up "snake eyes" one night of the crap-shoot.
  4. It's this new thing called a "search engine."
  5. Yo, Swami, thanks for your time and thoughts. You're saying your lax range is about 25-50% of your mens hockey average and your lax max is about 85% of your mens hockey average. (I'm assuming DU averages about 6000 for mens hockey.) Not bad. I'd be happy with those raw per game numbers (1500 to 3000) at UND for lax. UND Baseball doesn't draw 2500 in a season.
  6. Dear Letterwriter, You said, "But one of the UND players started punching a Mankato player whose jersey was pulled over his head." Can you think of a better time to punch the crap out of an opposing player? Seriously, the jersey got around the Mankato player's head why? Could it be that he was trying to do the same to a member of The Sioux? Why, yes, it was. If there was a mistake made there it was by the Mankato player in starting something and allowing someone else to finish it. Signed, A man who always secured the back-of-the-jersey tie-down PS - "... there were two UND penalties within the game's first five minutes." Heavens! I bet that never happens in basketball, football, or any other team sport! Yeesh.
  7. Dear Students, Everything that letterwriter rails against you about: Keep doing! I'll take "Gopher Rejects" and "Kiss Cam" signs over "F" or "S"-bomb chants. Signed, A guy happy with how you're working with Tom Buning on those issues
  8. So sayeth the fan of the team where the radio and TV contracts (WDAY-AM and TV) are held by the same company (ForumComm) that owns the local newspaper (The Forum). No cozy-cozy relationship nor potential conflict of interests there possible either, eh?
  9. UNO in the MIAA would be the best of all worlds for them: - much better travel (especially for basketball season) - conference play centered around Omaha/Kansas City/St. Louis recruits - non-conference play against NCC and NSIC schools (for MSP media exposure) - non-conference play against RMAC schools (for Denver media exposure) I can see where UNO's AD is coming from on this.
  10. Oh man, now you're just piling on to an already bad situation.
  11. What kills me is the only truly objective ranking system out there has UND solidly in fifth. http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/krach.php
  12. Got a phone number? I wonder if ForumComm will take a look at GFH or Duluth NT.
  13. Questions: - What would it take for DU to make the NCAA tournament after losing to UMD? - What would it take for CC to miss the NCAA tournament? - How outlandish of a scenario would it take for UND to become a #1 regional seed?
  14. Congrats to both Sandelin's and Motzko's teams.
  15. Here's exactly where the NCAA is being, well, the NCAA. The rulebook does say, "As nearly as possible, the dimensions of the rink shall be 200 feet [61m] long and 100 feet [30.48m] wide." However, they also say they'll only play Frozen Fours in arenas that hold 15000 or more. But the 15000 or more seat hockey arenas in the US are, for the greatest part, NHL arenas, which are 85 feet wide. Don't you love how consistent the NCAA is.
  16. That's all well and good, but that's only the revenues side of the ledger. "How much have expenses gone up?" is the question that needs to be answered also. From the Executive Summary to "EMPIRICAL EFFECTS OF DIVISION II INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS" by Orszag and Orszag, June 2005 (a study commissioned by the NCAA): I'd really like to see the actuals (revenues and expenses) at the 'SUs to make the best rational comparison of the bottom lines.
  17. Be sure to put Myles Brand's dictionary back where you found it.
  18. I'm starting to find those phrases bothersome, even if they are quotes of GrahamKracker. We have seen what GrahamKracker has proven himself to be. There's no need to keep rolling the evidence out. There's no need to sully yourself with those words even if they are quoting another. Leave the despicable characterizations for GrahamKracker to keep using (as he was the first).
  19. Well, from one perspective I am surprised: I thought all members of UNDIA thought only GK's way on the issue (or so we'd been informed by GK).
  20. And that is why I tend to look at (believe) KRACH more than RPI or PWR.
  21. Why? Effectively, Spirit Lake is "neutral" on this (not against as long as good comes of it) and has been for quite a while (and despite efforts of some to change the stance).
  22. It's not? That's what Woog told me.
