  1. Nearest Chippewa tribe (even with the other 4 in Michigan opposed) got Central Michigan a waiver. Nearest Seminole tribe got Florida State a waiver. Nearest Ute tribe got Utah its waiver. Nearest Sioux tribe to UND is Spirit Lake. PS - Can you point me to the section where any of this "tribal authority" is recognized in NCAA governance?
  2. About 40% of each of those numbers are not North Dakotans. (Those are "metro" numbers.) For UND to do it they'd need a football sugar daddy. (At this point we all just tell each other "Shhhh!" and do this: )
  3. I do. Do you? Spirit Lake Tribal Resolution A05-01-041 (13 Dec 2000): A continuing, open dialog is a positive, yes?
  4. If the key is "original negative connotation" may I direct you to "Hoosiers". If the key is "Native American" name, why does their original statement say, " ... in terms of race, ethnicity or national origin"? PS: How could we have forgotten the San Diego State Aztecs?
  5. Mississippi Valley State went to 5-4 over the weekend. It's the only over-0.500 they've played so far.
  6. I often get frustrated with conservative offense calls when UND has a lead. However, I have to admit that long, all ground, munch up the yards, time-consuming fourth quarter drive to make it 38-14 was absolutely perfect to take any thoughts of "comeback" right out of UMD's head.
  7. The Union College Dutchmen?
  8. What's a TarHeel? Gee, it's a name that honors a North Carolina unit that fought for the pro-slavery side in the US Civil War. Wouldn't that be "hostile and abusive" to the folks who were slaves in that era?
  9. The word was a "not-so-positive" term applied by others to a group of people (of a particular race) from a region. Now that group uses the term to describe themselves! But am I talking about "Sioux" or "Hoosiers"?
  10. The standard is: It's not what you say, it's how I interpret what I think you might have said.
  11. There was this Dean Blais guy who lived by "skate or sit", where nothing was owed to anyone for "putting in time". Who's skating better? Grieco earned another start.
  12. I'd like to see Danny Freund at the helm for about a quarter-and-a-half (because his team is up so much that they're giving him the reps).
  13. Will DI-A exist in 10, 15, or 20 years? Not in its current form. Heck the name is leaving soon for either FBS (DI-A) or FPS(DI-AA). The more appropriate question: Should UND strive to be exceptionally good at anything it endeavours? Yes (with the caveat that to do exceptionally well we must have the funding question completely answered and controlled). " ... pick a few things and do them exceptionally well, at the highest level." -- Charles E. Kupchella, February 21, 2002.
  14. We know the NCAA is targetting
  15. http://chronicle.com/prm/weekly/v50/i40/40a00502.htm That's a nice little conundrum they've created for themselves.
  16. Dewey. Truman.
  17. The guy who takes the "W" from the game for his team.
  18. Doesn't the property run all the way from the Wellness Center (in the SW) to the corner of Gateway and Columbia (in the NE)?
  19. UND last week -- Freshmen, NHL ice, veteran Maine team running the trap, made for a fast-paced, not time to think game: The lads looked like the game was going a million miles per hour to them because they were constantly being pushed and pressured. UND this week -- Freshmen, Olympic ice (like Wisconsin), youngish Mankato team, not normally a "trapper", more time and space: I'm hoping for more of a "like in Wisconsin" performance.
  20. The post in question.
  21. Hoosier and Cracker are synonyms in their origin. Hear "Hoosier", think "Cracker". Ms. Westerhaus gets away with "Cracker". So does Indiana. Indiana "Hoosiers" is Indiana "Crackers" is Indiana "poor white farmers". Indiana should be subject to the moniker ban (for its race-based moniker).
  22. The Indiana University Crackers? No, no. Hoosiers. What's a "Hoosier"? So
  23. But you repeat yourself.
